6

I woke up at 6:45. Stupid me slept in. I get up and look myself over in a full length mirror, now realizing I slept in my boots, I look just fine. I run to the kitchen and get a brown speckled banana. The window was slightly ajar, filling the room with a frosty feeling. I look at the calendar, 3 days until Thanksgiving, don't have anyone to celebrate it with, so who cares. I run to my room, pull open the closet, and grab my winter coat. It was wool, and I got it from an old co-worker. I slip it on and run out the door, I continue this pace until my lungs feel like they're gonna explode. There's a small child sitting on a torn cardboard box, she was wearing a coat, but had no food. I look at my banana, I haven't eaten it yet.
"Please." The little girl says, her lips barely move. I bend down.
"Here." I hand her the banana, she grins widely.
"Thank you so much!" She yells, standing up and wrapping her hands around my neck. I wrap my arms around her middle.
"It's really no problem." I say, a smile tugging at the corner of my lips. She pulls away, and looks up. A snowflake falls, and lands on her dark, curly haired head.
"It's snowing!" She yells.
"I'm gonna go, goodbye." I say, standing. She hugs my leg.
"Thank you again!" She yells. I wave and walk away, quickly picking up pace until I'm running again. I can see Mylo's house in the distance. He was outside jumping. The sun just started rising, leaving a bit of light on the world, I walk the rest of the way to the his house. The snow was sticking to the ground now leaving a thin layer of frost and snow. It was also snowing heavily now.
"HAZEL! IT'S SNOWING!" Mylo yells.
"Yup." I giggle, watching him act like a small child. He runs to me, picks me up and swings me around in a circle.
"It's snowing!" He chants excitedly.
"It is." I say.
"It's really cold though." He stops spinning, I now realize that he's not wearing a coat.
"Let's go inside, I'll see if you have any ingredients to make hot cocoa."
"Yummy." He sets me down, and we walk inside side by side. "I'll lead you to the kitchen, and let me get your coat." He says, pulling my coat off.
"Thanks." I say, sitting on the floor and pulling off my boots.
"Get off the ground Hazel." Mylo says, and I push myself off the floor. He leads me to the kitchen, which was very homey.
"Homey."
"Thanks." He says. "I really don't remember the last time I went shopping, like last month maybe, but I never eat here, so there's a lot of stuff."
"Kay, we can work with that." I say, Mylo gets two mugs out from the cupboard.
"The dry ingredients are in here." He points to a cupboard.
"M'kay." I say, climbing on the counter, opening the cupboard, and grabbing the cocoa powder which was placed somewhat at the front, the sugar was near the back, so I struggled to grab that. I grabbed the salt, and the vanilla extract, which was in the dry ingredients cupboard, even though it is a wet ingredient. I shut the cabinet and push myself off the counter.
"Do you need a pan, or something?" Mylo asks, I nod. He turns around and grabs a saucepan out of a cupboard. I walk to the fridge and pull out the milk, which surprisingly hadn't gone off.
"Fill the pan about a 4th full with water." I say, opening all the other ingredients. He fills the pan and sets it on the counter next to me. Eyeing the ingredients I add about 1/4 a cup of cocoa powder, 1/2 a cup of the sugar, a pinch of salt. I fiddle with the stove until I get a burner to turn on, turning the knob to medium, then put the saucepan on. I wait for it to boil and then stir it for about one minute. I turn down the heat and add the milk and stir it in, after it's completely stirred I take it off the burner and add the vanilla, then stir it in.
"Is it done?" Mylo asks, I nod. He grabs the mugs and pours the hot the hot chocolate directly from the saucepan. He hands me one and goes to sit at the table in front of a large window, I push myself up onto the corner of the counter. I take a long sip from my cocoa. "We should go on vacation." I spit all the hot cocoa out.
"With me? Why me?" I question.
"Because you'll get lonely." He replies
"I am perfectly fine of taking care of myself."
"Nope." He grins.
"I thought you liked the snow."
"I do, but where were going has snow too, and they always expect me around this time of the year."
"Where are we gonna go?" I ask.
"To Dave's."
"Oh."
"Are you gonna come? They throw the best Thanksgiving party."
"Yes Mylo, I'll go." I say, pushing myself down from the counter.
"Uh, you won't need to pack, Nelly makes clothes, and we won't be staying for long."
"I'll need a few things." I clarify.
"They really have everything, Nelly always has extra stuff." Mylo fights back.
"I'll need pajamas."
"Nelly makes clothes, and has extras, It's no big deal." He shrugs.
"I don't like wearing night gowns." I say walking toward the kitchen door.
"You can wear joggers and one of my shirts." He puts an arm in front of me.
"Fine, When are we going?"
"Now." Mylo runs downstairs, for a minute and comes back with our swords. He puts the both of them in a sheath, which he also go from downstairs.
"Why those?" I ask.
"Something bad always happens without fail, we'll need them." He replies.
"Oh okay." He takes his key off and pushes it into the air, does the unlocking key motion.
"Mabuk!" He yells, a door opens. We both step in, we were in city this time. It was snowy. I look down and realize I wasn't wearing shoes.
"Mylo. I'm not wearing shoes." I whisper, looking up at him
"Good lord." He says, face-palming.
"Sorry." I add.
"We're close enough to their house, we can walk." He says, crouching down a bit, gesturing me to get on his back. I hop on it and wrap my arms around his shoulders not wanting to fall, he puts his forearms under my thighs holding me up. We walk for a few minutes, until a large cottage in the distance. Mylo breaks out into a run.
"Woo!" I throw my hands up, Mylo laughs, and spins. We eventually arrive at the house, and knock on the door.
"Mylo!" We both turn around.
"Dave!" Mylo yells. It was surprisingly warm, I don't know why, it looked extremely blizzardy here.
