The passing months were pure bliss. Hazel made a full recovery, and announced the engagement to all of her colleagues. Mylo seemed... different, not by much, but everything was off. Eugene, he was the happiest he has ever been. Everything was shaping out to be perfect, but good times don't last forever.
"Mylo?" I ask, leaning against the door frame of his bedroom. He was laying on the bed, his face buried in the pillow. He hasn't moved from this position in days.
"Go away." He groans, waving at me with his hand. His bubbly happy personality had turned miserable in just a few days.
"Please tell me what's wrong." I plead, eyeing his laying figure collapsed on the bed.
"It's too late, and you wouldn't care, because you don't." He snaps. I blink, Mylo was usually such a gentleman, what's gotten into him?
"I do care." I say, clearing my throat. "You've been acting different ever since Eugene proposed what the heck has gotten into you?"
"Just get out." He growls, lifting his head off the pillow and looking at me. He has very defined bags under his eyes, which were bloodshot and puffy, tear-stains marked his cheeks, which looked red and raw.
"Have you been crying?" I ask quietly. He runs a hand through his white hair, letting it fall in whatever position it liked.
"Maybe." He says, his eyes going steely and his voice more guarding.
"Why are you crying?" I ask.
"Again, you won't care." He stands, wobbling for a second, walks to the door, pushes me out of the way softly, and shuts the door. I stand there staring at the door, dumbfounded. I feel arms wrap around my waist.
"Don't worry about him, he's jealous." Eugene whispers into my ear.
"Jealous of what?" I ask, skepticism growing in my tone.
"Us, you, me, our relationship." He explains softly.
"That doesn't make any sense." I murmur.
"Makes tons of sense darling." He grabs a strand of my hair and twiddles with it. "He told me to back off, on multiple occasions."
"So? He's quite a protective guy." I say, turning my head to look back at him.
"You see, darling, the country I'm from, Mahoa, it's in my dimension, us men have a goal, it's to get the one we love. That happens to be you, but if she or he, same-sex marriage is legal there, loves you back, you can't lose them. I.E: Nobody can't take you from my grasp, or I'll die." He explains, a grim tone on that last sentence.
"That's important in this circumstance how?" I ask, Eugene just shakes his head.
"Not really, just wanted to let you know you're mine, forever." He drawls. I swallow, all the moisture in my mouth disappears, then I nod.
"What if I fall in love with somebody else?" I ask, tentatively.
"I'll have to kill them." He answers.
"What if I die?"
"I'll die too, sweets." He places a chaste kiss on my earlobe, sending chills down my spine.
"Okay..." I say, holding all the vowels. "What if I love your father?"
"Already taken care of my darling, along with my mother, so don't even bother."
"Alright." I say, trying to keep the chill out of my voice.
"Don't be scared pet, just control yourself." He says. I nod and bite my lip.
"I'm gonna go get some air, and maybe something to drink." I say, then pull myself out of his tight grasp, running out of the house.
Days past, everything was grey, and everything that was already gray was more a more defined grey. Leaving the city of Winnipeg in a dark haze.
I push the thin throw off my body and feel around for Eugene, my eyes not yet ready to open. He wasn't there, I stand up and walk to the door, looking out the window built into it. He was standing out there smoking.
"Hazel." Mylo whimpers. I turn around and am immediately met with the chest of Mylo, which was inches away from my nose, I turn my head up slightly and make eye-contact with him.
"Are you alright?" I ask.
"I'm sorry, for snapping at you, for everything." He says, completely ignoring my question.
"It's okay." I give him a small smile, which he returns.
"Thanks." He says, pulling me into a much-needed hug, I was so over-joyed I didn't hear the door open.
"WHAT THE HECK!" Eugene yells. Mylo and I pull apart in an instant.
"Eugene--" I try to coax him, but he just launches himself at Mylo, and they fight, throwing punches and kicks. I grab hold of a shoulder and pull back, tumbling backward. The person ended up being Eugene.
"Pet, he was touching you." He says. I slap him.
"PET?!" Mylo yells. "How bad can you get!?"
"None of your business." Eugene snarls.
"It's all my business! She's not a dang dog!" Mylo yells.
"She's MY pet!" Eugene yells, emphasizing the my.
"SHE'S HUMAN AND FREE!" Mylo grabs my arm and pulls me toward him, I went sliding across the floor. Eugene grabs my leg.
"MY HUMAN!" He yells. They have a little tug of war, pulling me every way. Until I hit my head on the hardwood floor, and everything goes spinny.
