After a week, Hazel was mostly over it. The name Fluffles still triggers a sad little ping, but nothing too extreme. Everything's gone back into a normal swing, like the almost daily missions.
As of right now, we are preparing to go on a really long mission, take down a corrupted monarchy somewhere. We all have a bag full of necessities, clothes, food, and water.
"You ready to go?" Mylo asks, pulling the bag onto his shoulder, both him and I attached a holster onto the side of these bags, so we could put our swords in there.
"Yeah." I say, adjusting the bag to sit comfortably on my shoulders.
"Excited?" Eugene asks.
"I dunno." I answer. Mylo takes off the key and pushes it into the air, and turns it.
"Onyeeze!" He yells the seemingly gibberish word. A portal opens and we all file inside. It is really pretty here, we arrive by a lake, which was completely reflective, much like a mirror, everything reflected without flaw. It was the first time I've seen myself in weeks. My hair was longer, my eyes look harder, and more tough. Anyway, the sky was a perfect blue, no clouds or smoke, or sun in that matter. Surrounding us were evergreen trees, but instead of pine cones, there were little crystals, making the forest look like a night sky. The grass was a dark green, nothing really special about it. There wasn't any sound, like at all, not cicadas, birds, or frogs. And for the first time in forever I felt in peace. A hand on my shoulder made me jump.
"It's okay darling, just me." Eugene says, I relax my shoulders.
"Hi." I say.
"Quite marvelous here, isn't it?" He asks, I nod, leaning toward him.
"Yuck." Mylo says, I cock an eyebrow at him. "Romance."
"Oh, well, yuck, single man." I say. He laughs and sticks his tongue out at me.
"Anyway, are we gonna ambush or get ambushed?" Eugene asks.
"We'll ambush, but we'll have to get in." Then they both turn to look at me.
"What?" I ask. They look at each other and nod.
After about a day, Hazel was the new maid at the tower. Not just a maid but the head maid as well.
"Miss Mimi!" The princess yells, my maid friend ran out of the room to fulfill the princess's wishes. A servant boy walks up to me, his pet snake loosely coiled around his neck.
"I know your secret." He starts. I raise an eyebrow. "You know what I'm talking about."
"No, I really do not." I answer.
"You have plans to destroy the monarchy, and I want in." He says, a sinister look appearing on his face. I laugh dryly.
"You're delirious." I say.
"I'm not delirious, I aw you talking to that white haired boy last night. Is that your boyfriend?" He asks.
"No, he's just a friend." I say, giving him a dirty look.
"So the dark haired one is your boyfriend?" He asks.
"Sure, lets go with that shall we?" I ask sarcastically.
"Let me in on your plan." He demands.
"I don't have any plans, trust me on that. I just hang out with those two." I explain, trying to hide the obvious lying tone in my voice.
"Well, invite me to hand out with you." He says.
"No, those two are my friends, and you're just some jerkwad who works in the same castle as me." I snap.
"The dark haired one looks like a jerkwad." He lazily explains. I slap him, hard.
"Don't talk to me." I say, turning on my heel and walking away. Miss Mimi, or Carol, comes back with a platter of dirty dishes.
"Oh Hazel, please help me clean these." She cries, she's the tense quiet stereotypical maid.
"Don't worry, I will." We start on the dishes, but I can't help but notice snake-man looking through the window at me.
"Logan's giving you attention." Carol says out of the blue while we're cleaning. "I wish I was you."
"No you don't." I say.
"But he's so..." She sighs, expressing her feelings through that prolonged exhale of breath.
"No, he's really, ew." I confirm. She shakes her head.
"He's hot." She says, making me fake gag.
"He's disgusting." I groan.
"Oh! Yeah, you have a boyfriend I forgot!" She smiles, I nod. "What's he like?"
"If our plan goes as well as I want it to, you'll meet him, I promise."
"Ooh! Is He a knight?" She asks, a light blush appearing on her face.
"No, just normal." I say, an exaggerated frown appears on her face.
"So a peasant, from the town?" She asks, I smile and shake my head.
"No, he's not from around here." I say.
"MISS MIMI!" The princess yells.
"Oh dear, thank you for helping." She grabs a platter of clean plates and dashes back into the princess's room. I look around and walk to my quarters. Eugene and Mylo are standing there.
"Tonight." Mylo says. I smile.
"Of course." I say.
