I take off in a desperate sprint toward him. "Mylo!" I scream. He doesn't break his focus away from the werewolf. "Do you need help?"
"No, you have to go. Take the key." He says, breathless.
"What? Are you insane?!" I yell.
"No, Take it." He turns his head to face me. His eye was black, and his other filled with tears, threatening to spill.
"No!" I yell. With his free hand, he reached up and yanked the key off, probably breaking the chain, he tosses at me. It bounces off of me and falls to the ground.
"Go." He turns his focus back to the werewolf. I pick up the goldish key and push it into the air, fighting tears.
"Reira." I whisper, fighting tears, a portal opens and I step through. Only me, no Mylo. I look at the floor and stuff the key into my pocket. Eugene was sitting in the corner, sipping from a mug.
"Hazel? Where's Mylo!?" He runs to me, dropping his mug on the ground, spilling his coffee, or tea or whatever it was in that mug.
"He requested to stay back, I tried to make him come with me, he just wouldn't." He scoops me up into a hug.
"Go ahead and cry I've got you." He whispers. I burst into tears and heaving sobs. He starts moving in a rocking motion, and rubbing my back, probably trying to soothe me. It wasn't working. I press my face into his shoulder.
It felt like hours we stood there. It was only 5 minutes.
"Do you know the name of the dimension he's in?" Eugene asks, pulling away from our hug. I strain my brain. Nothing. I shook my head, my throat too raw to form audible words. I immediately run upstairs. Searching for the book. It was probably in his room, and where was that? I don't really know. I push open every door, until I find one that smelled like Mylo's cologne, and It wasn't a bathroom because there was a bed. The book was on the bed open to a random page. I step in making sure to close the door behind me so Eugene wouldn't see the book. I don't know if Mylo wants him to see it. I turned the lock, and pulled the key out of my pocket and went to the bed and sat down next to the book. The page it was open to had almost nothing on it. Except the word Heb Ganford. With no context, at all. I debate for a second, and decide to go there. I push the key in the air.
"Heb Ganford." I say, my voice uneven and wobbly. A portal opens and I step in, then shove the key into my pocket. The color scheme was different, everything a black and white except the things in these abnormally large bird cages, that could probably hold elephants. Except they were holding people, that I once knew. I looked at one, My mom was in there, with a black fabric over her eyes. I walk to the cage and wrap my hand around one of the bars. Her head was tilted to the side and she was singing softly the song I used to fall asleep too. I turn and look at another cage, Benjamin and Noah sat there, playing with dinosaur toys while yelling various phrases at each other. They both had the black blind folds on. Another had Fluffles in it, again with a thin black blindfold on. My 1st grade teacher, Ms. Simmons was there, I wonder if she died. Not important. I walk to her cage, she was murmuring the last lesson I heard her teach. I saw Elizee in a cage nearby. She was murmuring apologies. Then I turned and saw me, as a child standing there, again with the blindfold.
"Hi." She blurts out. Finally someone says something audibly.
"Hello." I walked to the cage and took a knee in front of it.
"Who are you?" She asks.
"Future you, I guess." I answer.
"Oh. Cool." She turns, and looks over at Noah and Benjamin's cage. A longing look apparent in her eyes.
"They died and we heard them, remember?" I ask, bringing up that memory.
"Yup." She turns back to me. "Your hair looks very soft." She reaches her hand out, only to pull it back when the cage tried to bite her. The bars came in close and pushed together.
"So you can see me?" I ask.
"Duh, but you can't see me, you have a blindfold on." She giggles. My hand flies to my eye, only to find there's no blindfold, which results in me poking myself in eye.
"There's no blindfold, If anything there's a blindfold on you." She copies my actions, except her hand was stopped by a blindfold.
"Oh, I guess you're right." She grins widely.
"Stay young, I probably won't see you around, bye." I stand and leave, not caring enough about her response to stick around. I see a temple in the distance. Wonder what that's about.
