A Rather... Happy Day
"Good morning, sweetheart!", her mum said while making her little girl a sandwich.
"Morning, sweetie" her dad said, lowering the paper he was reading and taking a small sip of his coffee.
"Morning, dad and mum" the girl responded to her parents, letting out a small yawn which she covered with her hand.
"It thought you would be more excited this morning, anything wrong?" the woman asked after looking at her daughter.
"It's Monday mum...", she groaned in annoyance, "Who gets excited about Mondays?" she continued not anticipating an answer. Her parents only laughed at her small comment.
And with that response everything went silent. The adults continued doing their own thing, her father continued reading the paper and her mother continued making breakfast. The girl discreetly pulled out a chair and sat at the table in total silence. Looking out the kitchen window, which was installed above the sink, she saw the clear blue sky. Not even a single cloud. That really had her confused because just a few minutes ago it was raining but she didn't put too much thought into it as she got distracted by the plate that was put in front of her face.
The same routine for school everyday, first breakfast, then school, then be bullied and after that homework. Not that her day stops there, now she'll be having flute lessons in the evenings as well as practice that will take up most of her time. That meant no going out until she would finish everything. Not that she would do all of her homework, she wasn't planning on doing that anyway. At least she won't be bored most of the day.
"Is something wrong sweetie?", her mum asked in a concerned tone as she saw her spacing out.
"Hm?", she shook her head finally snapping out of her frozen gaze, "Yeah, sorry... just thinking" she reassured her mother.
Then her father looked at the clock, he was probably late for work since he almost jumped up from his chair. After kissing his daughter's head and his wife on the lips, he walked towards the front door, grabbing his leather jacket along the way.
"I'll be back late tonight, honey and have a good day at school, sweetie", he flashed them both a smile before disappearing at the other side of the front door.
They both smiled but the girl didn't waste more time than she needed at the table. Instead she jumped up from her seat and ran to her room to get ready. Five.. Ten... Fifteen minutes later, she swang open her door and she walked out of the room with a gloomy look on her face. She was wearing her casual clothes, a thin bordeaux long-sleeved shirt, matched with thin black leggings and black athletic shoe, her black hair put in a side ponytail. Pretty simple but she wasn't used to dressing fancy for school like some of her peers.
Her school bag was filled with the needed books: Math, English, History, Music, Religious Education and Geography; the best day of the week (in a sarcastic way). Immediately she ran outside, not even bothering to say goodbye to her beloved mother. She just wanted the day to be over and done with, knowing that her 'bullies' would be there to make fun of her.
The school bus arrived soon after the girl went outside. The only good thing about the vehicle's arrival was that she got out of the autumn cold fast. She quickly picked an empty seat in the back, next to a window and tried to take up as minimal space as she could to look outside and not be seen. It wasn't long after three siblings got on the bus and to her displeasure, they all sat in the back. Next to her. Those three kids were known for their misbehavior at the school and for bullying 'easy targets'. Their names would be Alvin, Erik and their younger sister Tabitha; all three of them were a perfect group of troublemakers that the girl despised with a passion.
"Hey squirt", Alvin called out to the girl, "Do you got anything for us today?" he continued. He received a silent response from the girl who continued to look outside in an attempt to ignore his existence.
"Just leave the little waste of space alone you guys, she obviously wants to keep fantasizing about unicorns", Tabitha laughed, her brothers laughing along with her.
"Now, what if you treated us to lunch today, squirt?", Alvin suggested, "and then we'll leave you alone for today", he smiled like a supervillain at her. Erik kept staring at his two siblings, he was the silent type of person. He wouldn't talk to anyone unless spoken to and he would only pull pranks on the kid his siblings would bully, always apologizing on his siblings' behalf afterwards. This time he just starred and the answer his siblings got from the girl shocked him.
"How about you treat yourselves to lunch from now on?", the girl snapped, her brows knitting together in annoyance. Last time she gave them her lunch money, the cook had served pudding and she was unable to buy it (and they didn't leave her alone for the day) -in no way was she going to let that happen again.
Alvin and Tabitha remained silent from the shock for the rest of the ride. It was the first time the girl had talked back to them as she normally stayed quiet. After a couple of houses, the girl looked back at the three bullies to find two of them gone, that being Alvin and Tabitha, Erik was still sitting in his seat. She shrugged at her own thoughts of their whereabouts and looked at the front of the buss. It was almost time for school.
School started as soon as the buss stopped and the students got off. She walked to her first class; Math. Mr. Kalvon, the Math teacher, was friendly and nice towards the students. An hour later the bell rang throughout the school.
Five school periods later and school was finally over. The girl got out of school grounds and took the bus to go home. This time she sat at the front, . When the bus stopped in front of her house, she rushed out to her mother was waiting for her outside and wrapped her into a tight hug before walking back in. It was a rather happy day for the 7 year-old girl, as the bullies didn't even show up to class after her small comeback. She smirked victoriously at the realization.
