The trees grew around me. They were as tall as the sky. The earth was shaking. Tears were streaming down my face. The trees turned black and corrupted. The branches became evil fingers crackling in the wind.
"Help!" I yell hoping that someone anyone will hear me.
No suck luck.
The moon rises. And I hear the howls of wolfs going on a hunt. I knew I was the hunted. My scream became wails as I sunk to the ground. The pounding of paws was fast and getting louder by the second. I wanted to become the wolf. I didn't want to die but that day had other plans. I covered my eyes as wolfs slowly edged closer to me. That was until he came. He saved me. His name was Thomas, but he comes in latter.
I looked up my eyes met with one of the wolfs. The wolf looked at me with a look of anger. I held my breath and closed my eyes.
'It's like removing a bandaid. Quick and painful.' I thought no my self thinking that I was about to die.
I heard a wolf cry in pain. I peeked my eyes open and saw a guy he was a rather tall guy and was using some type of power. A wolf quickly attacked me. Clawing at my stomach, pain shot throughout my body causing me to start to black out.
Black spots clouded my vision as I felt the weight of the animal being lifted off me. The yelp of the dog was ear piercing.
The boisterous boom of thunder crashed around me the animals of the forest ran. For a storm was brewing and there was no escaping it. A deer jumped out of the woods landing on my arm crushing a bone in my arm. I screamed as loud as I could hoping that somehow, someway my arm could magically heal. The rain turned in to a storm lightning ceased down every five seconds. I shut my eyes as the intense scene unfolded.
The black spots almost took over as I got a burst of energy almost like adrenaline. I felt like I could do anything. I grabbed a piece of bark on the ground and in my hands it turned to a throwing knife. I gasped in astonishment, throwing it at the wolf. Thomas snapped and a blue wall around me appeared. I threw the knife at one of the wolfs. I looked at my left broken arm I focused my arm to try and fix the bone.
"Gah!" I screamed in pain as my arm changed into a tiger paw with its claws out. I quickly stood up trying to hit a wolf but failing.
When the wolfs were defeated I got really tiered and in a matter of seconds I was asleep.
"I could not take you to the exams at this age... But one day I will return and you shall prove your strength to me." He said
*12 years later*
I have been strengthening my power to the extent that I can change things while transformed. I became the regular me with my long hair.
There was a knock on my door. I walked over too it. I slowly opened it ready to spring an attack if it was an intruder. It revealed a guy. "W-who are you." I said surprised that someone would actually come to my doorstep. I was shunned from my community years ago when they learned the secret I tried to keep hidden.
"Hi! My name is Thomas." He said smiling at me
"I don't need your charity." I say closing the door. He stopped it and pushed it open.
"Any way I'm here to recruit you."
"Recruit me for what?!" I say surprised
"the keeper exams. Also We met before... When you were attacked by the wolfs." He said, there was a blank look on my face as I tried to remember him.
"Hey I'm sorry that was a while back I don't remember the wolfs but you do look like someone I know." I say "I had this gift since I was born." I say
"No you didn't I unlocked your powers for you. But whatever your strong enough to enter The Keeper Exams."
"I what if I told you I didn't want to join this stupid exam trial thingy." I told him.
"Then I would take you by force." He said "and I'm more powerful then you right now."
I jumped at him becoming a tigger glaring at him. He casted a blue spell that trapped me in a red ball thing that I couldn't escape from. "Let me out!" I cried
"No I have to take you to the exams." He said then all of a sudden my eyes started to get droopy. "Goodnight Adam black. May your gift help you in times of need." He said carrying me somewhere.

I wake up and look around my room. It is dark and dreary as normal. I smile. I get out of bed, put on a black dress (no surprise), and walk down the stairs. My parents are whispering to each other in the kitchen, but they stop when they see me coming.
"Good morning, Mother. Father. Anything planned for today?"
"Not for us, Wednesday, but there is someone here to see you."
"Who?" I look at an apple and transform it into a grapefruit.
"He wants to talk to you about your power" I freeze.
"Who told him?"
"We didn't. He just knew about you when he knocked in the door."
"Where is he?"
"We had Lurch take him to the library."
"Well, I guess I shouldn't keep him waiting." I walk towards the library, and my parents stare after me. When I open the door to the library, I see a man standing, looking out the window.
"Can I help you?" He turned around.
"My name is Thomas. You have been selected to participate in the Keeper Exams. You have a power, Wednesday. A gift."
"You mean how I can transform things into other things?"
"Exactly. Can you show me?"
"I guess." I look over at a book and focus. It then transformed into a rubber ball.
"Can you do it one more time?" I look at Pugsley (my brother)'s piranha tank. I focus and soon one of the fish turned into a parrot and flew around the room.
"Very good, Wednesday. I need you to come with me."

Freak. Crazy. That's what they call me. I can't help it, but they don't understand. They've never seen me the way I have. The image of myself of that one night is burned in the back of my mind. I can still picture myself with those horrid eyes. The eyes of a monster.
It wasn't too long ago, actually. Only about a year. I was walking home from school like it was any other day, only it wasn't. It was Dark Day, the day the sky turns black for a whole twenty-four hours. Usually they close the school on days like that one, but for some reason, they didn't this year.
I was rushing home, avoiding alleyways because that's usually where they lurk. When I say 'they' I mean the violent gangs that hangout on Dark Day. I was almost home, but I suddenly realized my phone was missing. I turned frantically behind me.
'I must have dropped it!' I thought. I pondered forgetting my phone because it would be safer to go home, but I had embarrassing stuff on there, and I couldn't risk some stranger finding it. So I went out in search of it -oh how I wish I had just headed home!
I retraced my steps. It hadn't even been five minutes when I felt something was wrong.
"Well, well, well." A voice calls out behind me. I spun around to face another teenager, but by the looks of his clothes, I could tell he wasn't just 'another teenager'. He had a red strip on his arm, a strip that symbolizes a gang. "Are you looking for this?" He asked while he held up my purple phone. I let out a whimper. "Nice pictures on here. Did you take them?" His hand motions suggested that he was scrolling through my pictures. My stomach knotted.
'I really should of deleted those pictures of me in a bikini.' I thought.
"Give that back." I state with what I hope was a stern voice. The gang member started laughing.
"That's cute. Grab her." I suddenly felt hands grip my arms. I struggled under the embrace. "Come on, don't struggle. Let's see what you've got." My eyes widen as I realize his intentions. As much as you would've expected, I wasn't scarred; I was angry. I felt my skin boil as the kid neared me.
"Ahh!" I screamed in pain as I sunk to the ground. 'Something isn't right.' I thought.
"What's wrong with her?" Asked a gang member.
"I don't know." Replied another. I kept screaming. My skin was burning and my head was pounding. Then I started to change. My body shrunk and my entire body sprouted fur. I let out a sickening growl.
I must of looked scary because the gang ran off, saying something about 'hybrids'. After they left, I turned back to normal. I shook my head. 'What just happened?'
Noticing the gang had dropped my phone, I grabbed it and ran home. Thoughts flooded my mind. I started coming up with conspiracies as to what happened. When I got home, I was convinced I had been knocked on the head.
I ran up to my room, gasping because I was out of breath from running. I leaned on top of my vanity. Slowly I looked up, and that's when I saw it. My eyes looked like a wolf's.
Ever since that day, I've shut myself off from society. I've hid in my room except for the times I have to go to school. Still I avoid mirrors. I can't bare to look at myself in fear of seeing those eyes again.
Whatever friends I had left me. Now rumors float around saying I'm not mentally sane, and maybe I am.
I hug my legs as I sit on my window sill, staring outside. Then, something catches my eye: a figure.
The figure moves closer towards my house. Soon enough it stops in front the door. I hear the doorbell ring, but I don't dare to answer it. But even though I don't, doesn't mean my mom can't. Soon enough the figure enters my house. I guess he's one of my parent's friends.
I'm soon startled by a knock at my door. "Sabrina? I know you're in there." Says an unfamiliar voice. I stay quiet in hopes whoever just spoke will go away. "I'm coming in." The person said.
I keep staring at the window as the stranger enters the room. "Go away." Is all I say. I hear footsteps as the person nears me.
"Listen Sabrina, I know why you're different." He says. This catches my attention.
"Why? Because I'm crazy?"
"No, you aren't crazy. You're special, and very powerful." Powerful? "Have you ever done something you can't explain?"
"Maybe, but what's this all about?"
"Sabrina, I'm Thomas, and I have a little task for you."
I don't know why I listened to him. I guess I liked the idea of blaming something for my craziness. I followed Thomas outside of my house, my mother called out to me, but I ignored her.
I kept following Thomas until we reached some woods.
"What are we doing here?" I ask, which is the first thing either one of us has said since we left my house.
"Just keep following me, I'll explain everything once you finish the task."
"Yeah, about that. What exactly is this task?" I ask.
"You'll see." Is all he says.
We walk in silence until I have no idea where we are. Suddenly, Thomas stops.
"Here." He states. I look around me.
"I don't under-" I start, but Thomas is gone. "Thomas?" I yell.
"Grr..." I hear something growl. Then something emerged from the shadows, or should I say somethings. Creatures start coming out, surrounding me.
"Thomas!" I scream. What's going on? "Thomas help!"
I back away slowly. The creatures creep closer to me. I then break into a run. I start running, not sure of where to.
My legs moved super fast, faster then I thought was possible. When I thought I had lost the beasts, I stopped, but when I did, I realized I was at the edge of a cliff.
"Ruff!" Another growl rang out. Great, I'm trapped. The beasts then appeared one by one, creeping closer and closer. I was so scared that I was shaking. I felt tears streaming down my face. I sank to the ground. This is it, I'm going to die this way. They're going to find my bones and conclude that I hallucinated some random person and I subconsciously brought myself to these woods. I guess that's how it's supposed to be. The crazy girl whose afraid of mirrors dragged herself to the woods and was killed by a pack of wild animals.
"You're not crazy." A voice said. I looked around me, maybe Thomas came back for me! "You're not crazy." It repeated. I realize that the sound is coming from my head. How stupid was I to think Thomas came back! He left me here to die. He left me.
My anger boils as my thoughts linger on the fact that I trusted this 'Thomas' and then he left me. My breath becomes raspy, and my vision blurs. I sink to the ground, my head pounds like it did that one time... No. No this isn't happening again! Like it did on Dark Day, my body starts to change, and fur sprouts on my body.
I let out a loud howl which frightens the creatures, some of them even turn to run. While I keep growling in my new body, inside I'm screaming. This can't be happening again. For the past year I've been preventing this moment. The moment I change, and those eyes reappear.
I will myself to change back, but it doesn't work. Why won't it work! I step back, but I'm not used to four legs so I stumble. The remaining beasts take this as an opportunity to attack. All at once they jump on me. I whimper in pain as one of them bites me. I need to get out of here! I whip around, trying to shake the beasts off.
Suddenly, something crosses my mind: the quicker I get these things off of me, the quicker I can change back. Hope floods inside of me.
With my new found hope, I lash back out at the creatures. I bite one of them and scratch another. Soon, all of them have disappeared.
For a second I'm happy. I just defeated a bunch of wild animals! I start walking away, but I stumble forward. I look down and stare at my fur. My fear comes back to me as I change back into a human.
"Well done! You've passed my test!" Says a familiar voice. I know it's Thomas right away, but I don't care. My body is shaking uncontrollably and tears flow down my face. I squeeze my eyes shut. "Sabrina?" Thomas asks. "Are you alright?" I shake my head.
"My eyes!" I cry. I feel Thomas kneel beside me.
"Hey, it's okay. Just open your eyes." Something things about him saying it makes me listen. I slowly look up at him. I see him flinch, but he soon regains composure. "It's alright Sabrina. Once you learn to control your powers, you can make your eyes turn back to normal with your body."
"Okay." I whisper.
"Hey, you passed my task, though. And my tasks are not easy, so I have one thing to ask you."
"What?" I ask while trying to slow my breaths.
"Will you be apart of the Keeper Exams?"
"What is that?" I wonder, forgetting about my monster eyes.
"It's where special people like you compete to be even more special." I ponder this. If I keep living in fear of myself, I'll just keep being that crazy girl who's afraid of herself, but if I go with him...
"Okay." Is all I say. Maybe in this "competition" I'll learn how to control my powers.
"Awesome! Come with me, and by the way, I think your eyes look cool." I can't help it, I smile. For the first time in a year, I smile.
