Transformation - Task Four

I brush my hair as I look in my mirror. The long brown curls fall a little bit past my chest. I carefully pull a piece of my hair into place, then another. I continue this until I've made a pretty looking bun in the back. I remember when my mom used to play with my hair when I was younger, and she'd twist it into a gazillion tiny braids. My mom always... Come to think of it, I hadn't thought of my family in forever. I wonder how they are holding up. Maybe I could ask Kate if I could call them. But before I can, I have to get ready for the banquet tonight.

Shaking the thought of my family away, I eye the makeup on my dresser wearily. I hadn't tried to use makeup in two years, and I'm sure if I tried now it'd be a disaster. Then again, I'd probably make a fool of myself anyway.

After fighting with myself for five minutes, I decide to apply some to my face. I put on basic nude colors for my eyes and put on some eyeliner. To follow, I dabbed a little bit of foundation under my eyes. Finishing the look, I put on mascara and pale lipstick. It didn't take long, which surprised me. When did I become fast at this backbreaking job? I look at my face, still unused to looking at myself. My blue eyes look bigger than usual, and for once a smile is on my face.

Done with my makeup, I look at dress Kate had let me borrow. It's a sleeveless blue dress, trimmed with silver. I still can't get over the fact that Kate let me borrow it. Making sure my door is closed, I slip my clothes off and hop into the dress. It feels cool on my bare skin.

The next step in my transformation is the jewelry. I borrowed pieces here and there from people and now I have a collection of blue and silver jewelry. I put on a thick silver chain with a small blue teardrop shaped jewel. Blue earrings and a ring are soon to follow the necklace. After about an hour, I'm ready. I slowly stand up and go to my door, when someone knocks. Startled, I open the door.

"Hey Sabrina." Jace greets in a crisp black suit. My heartbeat quickens. "You look stunning."

"H-hey Jace. Thanks. Shouldn't you be getting ready for the banquet?" I ask.

"About that, I was wondering if you would like to come with me?" He mumbles.

"What?" I say, stunned. He scratches the back of his head.

"Yeah, so um... It was a bad idea, never mind." He then starts to walk away.

"Wait!" I yell. He turns back then face me. "I would love to go with you."

"Great!" He grins. "So... Are you ready?" I laugh.

"How charming." I tease. He smiles and he and I walk together to the transport dock where Thomas told me and Kate told Jace to go.

Once there, we go into a metal box. It's boring to be honest, nothing more than an empty box. Until Kate walks in. Her necklace must be some work of magick because it burst into different colors, blinding me.

When I regain my vision, I see that here is a metal bracket on my left hand. It's freezing on my skin. I try to slip it off, but it's stuck.

"Don't hurt yourself." Jace teases, watching me struggle. I playfully hit his arm. But when I do, something happens: our surroundings change.

One second we're in a metal box, then the next we're all in a foyer. I give Jace a confused look, but he only shrugs. Kate then begins to speak:

"The Hybrid campus of Arizona." She says. She then goes on to explain how we will be introduced and to not make a fool of ourselves.

"Also, eat, drink, be merry, and have fun!" Thomas concludes. The doors to the banquet hall soon open to reveal music, flurries of color, and the smell of food. Some unknown voice introduces Kate along with Thomas. Then the voice goes on to introduce the apprentices. After about ten minutes, it's mine and Jace's turn. He holds his arm out for me to take, and we walk down the stairs.

"Sabrina Whyte, transformation, escorted by Jace O'Brien." A voice says, echoing around the room. After we walk about halfway down the stairs, the voice says, "Jace O'Brien, survival, escorted by Sabrina Whyte." I hear claps as we reach the end of the stairs, but why are they clapping at? Certainly not me.

Jace and I go sit at a long table next to Crysalis and Loira. After all the apprentices walk down the stairs, loud music begins to play. I decide to just sit this one out because, well, I'm not to dancing. Someone brings us drinks soon, and they set a clear beverage in front of me, which I take for water. Unknowingly, I drink it. Instantly I have the urge to dance. I get up despite my large heels, and pull Jace to the dancing floor. Jace and I make impossible turns and twists to a dance I didn't even know I knew.

After about thirty minutes of dancing, food is brought out. Exhausted, I go and sit down. The same person who brought me my drink, brings out large trays of food. Instead of eating it right away, I get up to greet some Hybrids, all of which were very nice. We talked about our Gifts and the Exams. Finally, I went back to our table to eat.

Steak, chicken, and fish al lay in front me. I feel my stomach flop. Not meat, anything but meat. I think Jace senses that I don't like meat, and he moves the dead animals away from me. I give him a grateful smile.

"Thanks." I say. He returns my smile.

"No prob."

I search the trays and I find some non-dead things to eat. Once I fill my plate up, I begin to eat. The food is even richer than the ones in the cafeteria. Once I finish my food, I'm given another drink. I gulp it down and go dance with Jace again. This is basically how my evening goes.

After two more hours of dancing and drinking and whatnot, it's time to leave. I stumble out of my chair.
"Wow, are you okay?" Jace asks, catching me.

"Yeah I'm fine." I slur. I fell very lightheaded, which is weird for me.

"Here, let me help you up the stairs." He insists. I nod, walking slowly with him. When we reach the top of the stairs, I feel my body leave my control. I'm guessing that clear liquid wasn't water after all.

"Jace." A voice coos. It take me a few minutes to realize it's me speaking, but I don't remember saying anything.

"Yes?" He asks, smiling goodly. I guess he knows that I'm not exactly... My self right now.

"Jace." I repeat. God, why did I have to get tipsy tonight? I guess my body isn't used to alcohol since I've never had it before tonight. "I like your... Eyes." I slur. I mentally face palm myself. Jace just laughs.

"Thanks, I like your's too." He says. I smile goofily. Then, I swear to God I have no responsibility for my body doing this, I kiss him. Wow, Sabrina, way to have your first kiss: when your drunk.

Before either one of us can say anything, Guarde members usher us to the foyer. There, we are transported back to the metal box at the transport dock. When the metal walls meet me, I collapse on the ground. Exhausted and drunk, I pass out.

The banquet hall was as elegant as it ever has been. Apprentices around talking and enjoying there selfs I was with my team talking and joking around. I walked to a table that had little snacks on it and put some on a plate to bring it back to the group. I sat it down and excused myself. I walked around and talked to they stray people. My stomach was hurting so I went to the bathroom I got down on two legs grabbed the bowl and started to puke. 'Well then there goes all of my guts' I thought continuing to puke. It was showing no end so I stayed in the bathroom all night. 'This has been the best banquet ever!!!'

"It is the day of the Banquet. Everyone is talking in the halls about their families coming. My family won't be able to come since we/they are human. I am the only person at this point who can't brag about having an escort. Lucas, who would be my first choice, can't come since he's a human. I miss him so much. I rarely show emotion, but when I see him I feel so happy that I could squeeze a frog till the guts come out of its mouth, but when he goes away I want to murder my brother. Too bad I can't transform Lucas into a Hybrid. Wait. A. Second. He is living. Hybrids are living. He can be transformed!!"

"Wednesday, what is Lucas like?" Asks Alice who I've been talking to.

"He is kind, caring, demented, and poetic."

"Huh. Well he definitely sounds unique."

"Oh, Alice, he is! I have to figure out how to get him her within the hour."

"I can arrange transportation for you."

"You would do that, Alice? It means so much to me!"

"Of course, Wednesday! I'm your trainer! I have to help you in some way!" I smile and go to Kate's office. I knock on the door.

"Come in." I walk into the room.

"Kate, is there a way I can call Lucas?"

"Why would you want to do that?"

"As I told you. I didn't get to say goodbye to him, and we are engaged. I have to talk to him."

"Fine. You can use this phone." She stands up and leaves the room. I dial the Bienekie's home phone number, and Mal Bienekie (Lucas's father) answers the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hello? Mr. Bienekie? This is Wednesday."

"Wednesday?! Lucas has been worried sick!"

"Can you please put him on the phone?"

"Of course!"

"Wednesday! What happened? Where are you?"

"Did mother and father tell you what happened?"

"Yes, but what happened to you?"

"I'm ok, Lucas, but you have to listen to me. I have a power. I can transform things. Tonight the apprentice banquet. I need to see you. You can't come as you are now since your human, and they don't like humans here. I'm going to try to transform your DNA, Lucas. My trainer, Alice, is going to get you here somehow after I change you into a Hybrid. You shouldn't look any different. Just stay calm."

"Wednesday, I trust you." I focus on Lucas. I think of everything I know about him and envision seeing him tonight. I think I'm done.

"Lucas, do you feel any different?"

"I feel quivery, Wednesday."

"Good! I get like that when I change. Lucas, I will see you later."

"I love you, Wednesday Addams."

"And I love you, Lucas Bienekie." I hang the phone up and walk towards the door.

After a half hour of searching for Alice, I give up and decide to get dressed for the banquet. I put on a black, shimmery gown with cap sleeves, a silver necklace, silver heels, and a silver flower for my hair.

I walk down the hall still looking for Alice when I see him. Lucas Beinekie standing in the hallway outside my room wearing a black tuxedo, holding a bouquet of yellow roses.

"Lucas!" I run to him and he engulfs me in a hug. We both start to cry. We haven't seen each other for weeks.

"I missed you so much!" He says. I smile.

"Let me put these roses in my room before we go to the banquet."

We walked along the hallways, arm in arm. When we enter the large room, a bracelet appears on my arm.

"What's that?" Lucas asks.

"No idea." I say and keep walking.

Lucas and I were so excited to be together, we only spoke to each other all night. When the night was over, it was awful having to say goodbye to him. Alice found us, and I told her I was so grateful to her for what she had done. She humbly smiled and took Lucas back to Ohio.
