Electric - Task Two

Cole glared at them with his stormy grey eyes. Sam stared at them, his silver-green eyes sparkling with mischief. Miles glanced at them, his chocolate brown eyes changing into a coffee brown as it got darker. The surrounding land formed into a cave. Miles craned his newly morphed bat eyes and could hear struggling and zapping of electricity. Claws bared itself out and he ran in.
Cole summoned a bolt of lightning and threw it into Sam, burning a hole in his jacket and shirt beneath. Miles hissed and jumped on Cole, blinding him with shock. Cole picked up power and zapped Miles in the waist. Sam made a shoving force with his hand, making Cole flip and smash his jaw on the hard concrete. Sam tapped Miles with one hand and Cole with the other. He shocked Miles again with almost near death power. He got some claws and scratched up Cole.
The boys on the ground was dazed and shocked. Samuel laughed and walked out the door whistling happily to himself, leaving the others behind.

I couldn't stop thinking about Daniel. I didn't even get to tell him goodbye before I left. He'd just kissed me, but I said nothing. Absolutely nothing. I should've at least said SOMETHING to him... He deserved to know if I had feelings for him too.

But... I was still trying to figure that out for myself.

I sighed, and looked around my room. There wasn't much in there, but it was the place I'd be calling home for a while. There was no escaping this place... No escaping what the Exams had to bring. None of us could even use our Gifts in there. It was like they were just... Cut off.

There was no point in just staying in my room all day. No matter what, my life was never going to go back to being semi-normal. For now on... It was just going to be completely abnormal.

I walked out of my room, and down the halls of the base. I made my way towards the training grounds-- the only places where I could use my abilities-- I passed other competitors, but avoided eye-contact. 'Soon... I will be competing against these people who are just like me...' I sighed, thinking about it.

At times, I often wondered why I just HAD to have a Gift. Why couldn't I just be a normal human? Why did I have to be born a Hybrid? Unfortunately, none of these questions were answered. This was my life now, and I was just going to have to deal with it.

I passed the different training grounds. All of them for the different Gifts... Except for one. The last one was for different competitors who wanted to spar with each other.

I hadn't met any of the other competitors who had the same Gift as me yet, but I saw them as I passed by the Electric Gift users training grounds.

But I headed for the last training ground. I was going to see how well I could spar with one of the others.

I wasn't very tall, and I wasn't as strong as I would've liked to be, but my abilities were powerful. I'd been learning to use them since I was thirteen, and I had already gotten pretty good with them.

I walked in, immediately seeing several other people sparring with each other, using their abilities to their advantage.

Scanning the room, I realized just how difficult these Exams were going to be.

I took a deep breath, and walked deeper into the room. I couldn't help but stare at all the other competitors as they fought each other.

That's when I bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry..." I quickly apologized. "I should've watched where I was going..." Slowly, I looked up at the tall boy in front of me. His arms were crossed, and his blue eyes were staring back into mine. "Uh... I'm Casey," I said, swallowing hard. "Casey Calvert."

He smirked, seeing my nervousness about talking to another competitor. "I'm Zander."

I was careful about what I said. I didn't want to say the wrong thing, and make an enemy out of someone already. He didn't walk away, either, so I took that as a cue to continue the conversation. "So... What's your Gift?"

"My Gift is Protection," he said, looking proud of that.

'He's probably a lot stronger than me...' I thought to myself.

"What's yours?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm... I'm Electric," I replied. "Kind of a cool Gift, I suppose..."

"Why don't we spar? Show me how well you can use your Gift," he said, smirking again.
I took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay. We can spar. I don't know if I'll be any good at it, but I'll try."

He led me over to a platform like all of the others in the room were standing on. My hands trembled a bit, but I knew I just needed to relax. 'It's just sparring...' I remind myself.

Zander's eyes seemed to scan me, as if he was trying to figure out what my first move would be. My eyes never left him the whole time. I did know one thing that I could do, and he wouldn't know what it was.

So I moved quickly, grabbing his arm, and I started concentrating hard, my brow furrowing as I did. 'I'm going to reboot his mind...' There were perks to being Electric, I have to admit that.

And suddenly, he looked up at me curiously, like he didn't know what was going on. I smiled in satisfaction. 'It worked!'

Then he snapped out of it, and came back to his senses. "Whoa... That was... Whoa."

I felt a bit more comfortable now, and I giggled. "I rebooted your mind." I let go of his arm and moved back to my side of the platform.

He grinned. "That was pretty impressive."

"Thanks," I say, crossing my arms and smiling. "Why don't you show me what you can do now?"

"Alright. If you insist," he says, chuckling. "Try and tackle me."

"Why?"

"Just do it."

I sighed, confused, and I nodded. Then I ran towards him. But before I could get within two feet of him, he outstretched his hand and a force field appeared out of nowhere, knocking me backwards hard.

'Oww....' I sat up, rubbing my shoulder. "That... Was... Awesome!!" I said. I glanced to my left, and saw a girl watching us. She couldn't have been any older than me, and she had blonde hair with blue streaks in it, and she also had green eyes. I waved at her slightly, and then Zander helped me to my feet.

Before I could say anything to Zander, though, the girl came up to us.

"Hey..." she said, a little shyly.

"Hi," Zander and I replied simultaneously. I smiled.

"I've been watching you guys, and you're really good with your Gifts..." she said. "I'm Hannah. My Gift is Wildlife."

"Mine is Electric," I said. "And my name is Casey."

"Mine is Protection," Zander said. "And I'm Zander."

Hannah smiled. "I was thinking... Maybe all three of us could team up for the Exams."

Zander actually seemed to be considering this, while I was hesitant. 'They seem nice... But what if I can't trust them...?'

"I feel like we'd all be a good team," Zander said. "I'm in!"

They both looked at me, expecting an answer. But... Would forming an alliance really be a good thing? 'What if they kill me in the Exams...?'

"Look... I know you probably don't want to trust anyone..." Zander began. "But... Being alone isn't the most ideal thing, either."

He was right. I didn't want to be alone during the Exams.

I took a deep, shaky breath and nodded. "Alright. I'm in too."

Name: Penny

It was crazy, me coming here after what happened, but I had to move on. I guess. I sat down on the squeaky bed in my triangular room. I stood up and walk over to the mirror, my hair was a mess and under my eyes were black bags. I was too tired to fall asleep.

I walked out of the room wanting to look around, I walked into a wide bright room.

"I was just going to check up on you." I searched for the voice, I saw an about 18 year old boy staring at me. He was wearing a plain black t shirt and silver shorts.

"Am I supposed to know who you are?" I asked him.

"Not really, so um, hi I'm Jackson." He said holding out his hand waiting for me to shake it.

I shook his hand. "Penny, but I suppose you already knew that."

He smirked a cute little smirk making his green eyes light up. "Well, I'm your trainer, coach, mentor or what ever you want to refer to me as. I'll be helping you through out the exams, now I would like to see were you are with your skills."

"Ok, um how do you want me to do that." I asked

"Well this room is made to suit your skills one little tap and...."

The room changed to a desert rain was pouring down, and a few close mountains were rusted. Wired place to test my skills, I thought.

"I'm going to go slow on you ok?" He said standing there, "I want to see how you defend and attack with your gift."

"Ok." I said not to sure what to do.

He came at me going for a punch, I panicked and ducked, then ran out of his reach. I looked back he wasn't there. Oh hell no, I thought. He could be anywhere, I decided to try to defend my self by gathering my electricity in my hands. That wasn't a very good plan because he hit me from the side sending me to the side of one mountain.

Think! Think! What can I do, I quickly scanned the area and stood up my hip aching. Water increases electricity the mountain's rocks must have some metal in them since they are rusting. I got it.

I connected my electricity with the water trying to control it in one ball, he came charging. Five, four, I counted down my plan, two, one. I quickly slapped my palms full of electricity on to the mountain, creating a bright white light, then I brought my hands together as he was inches away from me.

The light was so bright I couldn't keep my eyes open. When it dimmed down he was on his knees hands shaking smoke coming from his clothes, skin a little burnt at the arms. He got up quick despite his wounds and shaking.
He slammed me into the wall, I tried to duck but his water was filling up the little hole I was in. I was about to drown in the hole my electricity created. Great. I tried to swim up but the pressure of the water kept me down.

Then it all disappeared, it was a plain old gym room again no rocky surface, no drizzling rain, even the hole that seemed so real vanished from the ground.

"It's going to be hard to get used to that, something seeming so real suddenly vanishing." I said standing up, but I quickly fell back down I noticed that I was sweating and I started to breath hard.

"Using your gift does that, it tiers you out." He said kneeling over, and panting.

He recovered faster and stood up and looked ok, besides the small little scratch on his arm.

"So that was a test of how much I sweat." I stood up and this time I found strength to stay up.

"In a way yes, I wanted to see how much power you can use and how much you can bare." He scanned me, I must have looked terrible because he said. "You should go rest now," and he walked away.

I walked back to my room my heart beating in my head, I felt dizzy but I was in my room so I just collapsed on my bed. I didn't even bother to take a shower or look in the mirror, I was too tired to do anything. I just started to stare at the ceiling hoping to get some sleep.
