Chapter Thirty-Four - New Allies and a Little Bit of Lies

It has been at least three days now I decided as I walked. A few more tornados ran through the area, destroying the buildings and nearly killing me almost eight times. I'm glad I healed fast otherwise I'd be dead from getting my arms and legs sliced open so many times.

I slid down a sand dune and looked inside the makeshift bag I made out that old flag. I pulled out a cooked rat I hunted a while back and took a bite. Rat was stringy, mostly muscle and bone. What little meat it had was tasteless but I guess it was better than nothing.

The winds began to pick up again and I quickly ducked inside of a some kind of car garage. I watched in the distance as the tornado formed and touched the ground. Suddenly I felt something poking my back and I held my hands up. "You're lucky I refuse to kill an unarmed fighter," a voice said.

"Funny, most people don't consider unarmed," I said slowly. I looked into some shattered glass on the ground and saw a boy holding a jagged metal spike to my back. He had somewhat curly brown hair, his skin pale but looked sunburnt. The other wraith apprentice, Luke.

"You have no weapons-"

"Since when do you need weapons?" I asked. I ran forward before he could grab me and kicked off the pillar in front of me, flipping over him. I landed crouched like a cat and kicked his legs out from underneath. "You're lucky I don't feel like killing anybody else." I said. "Just leave me alone." I turned to walk away and felt a cold shiver run through my body and he was suddenly in front of me.

"What's your name?" Luke asked.

"First name none of, last name your business," I said with a smirk.

"You're the wildlife," Luke said. "Maris Gold." I stayed quiet and set my bag down. "What are your worst fears little girl?"

"Little?" I laughed. "Please I could kill you without blinking."

"Are you sure?" I blinked and he was behind me, his hands on my head. "Let's find out."

My head burned and I was back in the old Black Dragon compound, years after I had gotten my tattoos. A group of my own men were holding me down, one of the trying to stab me in the stomach. "If your trying to show me nightmares it won't work wraith," I said. "This already happened." I slammed my elbow back into his gut and it connected with a satisfying grunt. The vision was cut off and my head started to throb. I was thrown into another vision of a blonde girl eating star-grapes. The girl turned her face, covered in blood and then she collapsed. "Alright low blow coward!" I shook my head and the vision faded. I barely managed to knock Luke back when he jumped at me and I kicked him in the side. My head continued to burn and I tossed back into another vision. This time I was on the ground, Luke was bleeding from a head wound, a person standing over him. I quickly jumped up and saw it was Roman, his familiar quirky grin smiling at me.

"Roman?"

"Hey Maris," he said. "Are you okay?"

"What are you during here, you're supposed to be on the other island."

"I found a way over," he said with a shrug. He walked over and I took a step back. This was a vision, he's not really here. "Hey come on its me, not a vision." Roman touched my shoulder and I felt how warm his hand was. Maybe it wasn't a vision. My head throbbed and I looked at the ground.

"Roman?"

"Yah?"

I thought of a question only he would really know, when he asked about my hair at the dance, and I told him that I changed my blonde hair to hide from the police. "What color was my hair before it was purple?"

"Why would you ask such a silly question?"

"Just answer it."

"It was blue Maris, and you said you liked to change it cause there was too many brown haired assassins out there." I pushed his arm away and he looked at me curiously. "What?"

"It was blue, but I was never a brunet. I was a blonde." I kicked him in the chest and he doubled over. I quickly grabbed his shoulders and kneed him again in the chest until he fell over gasping for breath. Nothing in the vision changed and I froze for a minute. "Oh god," I breathed. What if I was wrong, what if he just forgot.

"You're good Maris," Roman coughed. My surrounding blurred like static and I saw Luke on the ground holding his chest. "You're good."

I calmly picked up his metal weapon and stood over him. "You dare bring the people I care about into this?" I asked. "What gives you the right?" I held the weapon to his throat. "I am seriously considering throwing you out into the next tornado."

"Whoa whoa wait," Luke held up his hand defensively. "Have you seen the message yet?"

"What message?"

"In the sky," Luke said. I pulled him up and he pointed out the window. I saw faintly written in glowing clouds that only two will survive.

"What about it," I said. "I can just kill you now and get it over with."

"Or we can team up and take out the other competitor."

"Why?" I asked.

"I just think we would make a good team," Luke said quickly. He looked at the weapon in my hand and with an eye roll I chucked it out the window.

"Fine."

"Alright, good," Luke held out his hand and I glared at it. "Right then, I saw her before I ended up in here. She was heading for some large building over there, the one with the blue letters on it."

"Well I don't feel like being with you any longer than possible so I hope your not scared of heights," I said. I walked around and found a pretty large hole in the roof.

"I am not but why are you-"

"Avenray," I said. The black wings spread out and before he could react I grabbed Luke's arms and yanked him into the air. "Hold on tight!"

"Oh really now, cause I thought letting go might be fun."

"I will drop you," I said. We flew to the large skyscraper in the distance, it's windows reflecting the sunlight into my eyes making it almost impossible to see.

"That's a good idea," a voice breathed in my head. Suddenly everything went black and I almost dropped Luke.

"Hey are you okay?" Luke cried.

"I can't see," I said in panic.

"Alright, my turn to travel," I felt weightless for a moment and then I was on the ground. "I dropped us down here, what happened?"

"I happened," a girl said. "What do you think would happen if I took something away from you?"

"Well that's a weird feeling," Luke said nervously.

"What did she do to you?" I asked.

"Well I'm gonna assume this chick is a mind apprentice and she just took away my ability to feel things. Trust me this feeling is very unnerving."

"Atbay," I muttered. My eyes fogged up almost and I saw small things. I clicked my tongue and the images came back to me like photos. I saw the girl standing off by the building and kept clicking my tongue to see her approaching slowly.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

"You don't need eyes to see," I said. When she got close enough I lunged at her and she screamed as I dragged her down. "There are other ways." With every sound we made I got a clearer vision of my surroundings.

"Well sometimes what you see isn't real," the girl said. She shoved me off and I threw a punch at air. She was off to the side of me and I tried kicking her but fell to my knees. "Are you sure I'm really there? Or is it just a false memory?"

"Hey don't forget about just yet," Luke said. I tilted my head in the direction of his voice and saw that I with the echolocation I could see him teleporting, even when he was invisible to the girl. He dropped slightly above her and tackled the girl, then held his hands to her neck.

"Are even squeezing?" She asked.

"You know I'm not really sure," Luke said. "I like to think that I am though."

"He may not be able to feel it but I can," I ran over and punched her in the jaw. My eyes cleared up and I finally saw everything again.

"Oh look at that, I can feel me squeezing the life out of you again," Luke said. The girl struggled in his arms but he had her pinned down to the ground. She finally stopped moving and Luke sat back. The wind began to pick up again, quicker than usual.

"Luke," I said grabbing his shoulder.

"Hold on I need to make sure she's dead," he said waving my arm around. The tornado was already forming extremely close to us and I yanked Luke up.

"If she's not dead the tornado will get her," I said. I turned and ran quickly sliding through a window into some underground room, the outside covered in years of other building collapses and sand. Luke slid in next to me and we both covered our heads as the tornado stormed over us sending debris and dirt into the room. When it finally stopped, I jumped back up and saw the body of that girl was gone, if she wasn't dead before she certainly was dead now.

"Hey watch out!" Luke shoved me out of the way as a large metal beam collapsed. I fell to the ground and turned to see his leg pinned.

"Hold on I'll get you out," I said. "Antay." I grabbed the beam and lifted it up just enough for him to crawl out from underneath then it slid out of my grip.

"Did you just summon the powers of an ant?" Luke asked with a laugh.

"Yes," I sat down and held out my hand to him. "My name is Maris Gold," I said. "Can I look forward to you not killing me in the future?"

"Luke," he shaking it. "And you'll have to find out."
