Chapter 7: Welcome to the Team
Karmen: Finally posting a new chapter for this book XD. Hope you enjoy!
Bang, Cardo, and Lucienne stared at Kathryn. The trio sitting on the couch back in the motel room they rented out while the steampunk-wearing girl stood before them. As they waited, Kathryn took a deep breath before speaking.
"My name is Kathryn Adelaide Wang and I'm a princess from another universe," Kathryn stated.
The trio looked at her in shock, not expecting this kind of revelation to be bestowed on them. Bang and Lucienne stood up quickly.
"Another universe?!" shouted both Bang and Luc. Both shocked and excited.
Cardo gave Kathryn a look of doubt, not believing what she said, he crossed his arms and looked at the other two who were standing.
"Let's let her finish first," Cardo sighed. "It sounds like nonsense, so let's hear what else she has to say so we can make more sense out of the situation."
Kathryn smiled at Cardo before continuing to speak. "I have what this universe calls an 'abnormality' but where I'm from it isn't frowned upon."
The steampunk princess walked up to a wall in the living room and puts a hand on it as a yellow portal formed on said wall.
"In my world we call abnormal abilities 'cai' which means 'gift,'" she explained. "When I first came to this world I became friends with a girl named Jasmine Romario."
"Was that the girl you were fighting earlier?" Bang asked.
Kathryn nodded in response. "Yes..." she looked down at her feet shamefully. "But she was seduced by the Black Hand's teachings and became Black Jack's goon."
"Who is Black Jack?" Lucienne asked her.
Kathryn paused for a few seconds before answering Luc's question.
"Black Jack is the High Priest of a the Black Hand cult," Kathryn answered. "He's darkness-worshiping heretic who plans on releasing a goddess of night to bring darkness to the world."
"So, I assume he's the one who is responsible for the shadow lurkers?" Cardo asked.
Kathryn nodded. The three heroes looked at each other. The idea of an evil cult is already strange enough, but with them being responsible for the monsters that are around the state, it sounds like something out of a movie. But to be fair, a man who can teleport, a boy who fights crime in a hood and mask, a girl who can lift cars with ease, and now a girl from a different universe who can create portals all being in the same room together sounds like a plot for a generic superhero flick.
"So, what do you guys think?" Bang asked the two seventeen year olds.
"I think the situation has become more problematic now," Cardo answered. "Knowing there is someone behind the shadow lurkers changes everything now. If we're dealing with an experienced abnormal who could be leagues ahead of us, we're screwed."
"We could always have Man in Black handle it, right?" Luc asked Bang. "The guy has abnormal agents at his disposal, from what you told me."
Bang chuckled and shook his head. "Oh, that's not what I meant."
Cardo and Luc raised a brow at the eldest in the room. Looking at each other in confusion before realizing what he meant and looking back at Bang.
"No way," Cardo objects.
"Yeah, that's a horrible idea," Lucienne agrees with him.
"Come on, I think it's a great idea!" Bang beamed at them. "The more the merrier right?"
Kathryn looked at the three with childlike curiosity. Smiling brightly and wanting in on the conversation too.
"What are you guys talking about?" Kathryn asked excitedly. "Hey, hey! Tell me what's going on!"
Bang smirked at Kathryn and points at her. "Since you know more about the Black Hand and your experience with them and it's leader, how about joining us?"
Cardo face palms as Lucienne shakes her head with her arms crossed. Both disapproving of this.
"Wait..." Kathryn's eyes sparkled as a large smile appeared on her face. "Are you asking me to join your team?!"
"Since when were we a team?" Cardo commented, looking at the other two who shrugged at him.
"I see Bang Patonti on TV a lot!" Kathryn continued. "Stopping crime and beating bad guys up!" she says as she punches the air.
"Awww, she's a fan," Lucienne giggled. "I change my mind, maybe we should let her join."
Cardo stared at Lucienne, dumbfounded by her sudden change of opinion just from the fact that Kathryn is a 'fan' of them. While Bang nods amusement, Cardo was still not convinced.
"I still don't know if bringing her around is a good idea," Cardo expresses his concern to the two.
"I can help!" Kathryn interjected. "I know a lot about the Black Hand and their plans."
"She does have a point," Lucienne agreed.
Cardo was lost for words, trying to say something to counter the argument in his favor but to no avail. Bang walked up to his brother and patted him on the back to console him.
Kathryn squirms in excitement, bubbly about being in the presence of the three superheroes. Now that she has the approval of Bang and Lucienne, now she needs Cardo's approval.
Cardo looked back at Kathryn, seeing the sparkle of amazement in her eyes. He was uncomfortable with the position he is put in. Feeling the eyes of his brother and Luc staring at him with grins on their faces, he had no choose but to bend the knee.
"Fine..." sighed Cardo. "You can join us."
Kathryn's eyes widen and her smile grew even wider. The steampunk girl jumping up, cheering loudly until stopping.
"So, how do you two know Bang Patonti?" Kathryn asked curiously.
"Oh, it's because I'm Luc and he's Dark Hood," Lucienne pointed at herself and then at Cardo when answering the question.
Cardo looked at Lucienne with his jaw dropped, silently screaming internally at her when she casually exposed their secret identities to the girl they just met. Before he could start scolding the dunce of a girl, Kathryn squealed excitedly and started fan-girling over the two seventeen year olds.
As Bang watched Kathryn make Cardo uncomfortable while Lucienne enjoyed the attention, he chuckled to himself.
"Yeah, we'll get along just fine."
