Romeo And Rosie
The dreaded time had arrived. Romeo had made it through school, awkwardness with Julie, and detention.
He had hoped he would be excited for his date with Rosie, but no such excitement had appeared.
He wore his usual red hoodie and jeans, not caring to look at all out of the usual.
He was just about to leave for the frozen yogurt place when...
"Where are you going?" Nick wondered. He sounded merely curious.
"I've got a date." Romeo admitted honestly, without any emotion in his voice.
"With Julie?" Nick asked, hopeful.
"No... With Rosie Owens." Romeo stated, blankly.
"Why?"
"Because I can alright! I'm not going to wait around for someone who doesn't even see me as more than a friend." Romeo grumbled. He put on his hood. "I got to go. See you, Uncle Nick."
His uncle was taken aback by Romeo's teenage response.
He rode his bike to Puck's Creamy Dreams Frozen Yogurt Parlor which was all the way across town.
He didn't have to wait long before a familiar short girl appeared. Rosie's hair was in its signature style of long, brunette pigtails. It looked like she had at least put some effort into what she was wearing as she was wearing a casual, nice, purple sundress.
"Hey, Rosie." Romeo tried to sound enthusiastic and failed. He merely sounded polite. "You look nice." He stated blankly.
"Thanks, Romeo! What do you think you'll get?" Rosie asked, cheerfully.
"Um, raspberry lemon frozen yogurt?" Romeo wondered as he read off the board. "I'll try it." He shrugged. He heard a girl at a table start coughing and paid it no mind.
"Hmm, odd choice. I think I'll have the huckleberry." Rosie stated.
Once they had got their ice cream they choose to sit at a booth and eat. Rosie tried to make conversation.
"So... We're starting badminton tomorrow." Rosie stated.
"Cool."
"Do you know who you want to partner up with?" Rosie wondered.
"I don't know. Probably Anthony, but he'll probably pair up with Ivy. Maybe Eric or Julie." Romeo's tone hadn't gained any emotion.
"Oh." Rosie frowned. "You seem really close to Julie."
"Yep, she's like the coolest girl I know."
Rosie's frown grew. "Oh... Okay."
Romeo seemed to have realized his mistake. He rushed to fix what he had said.
"Er, I mean out of my friends- not that you aren't my friend- you're just different- a good different of course!" Romeo rambled, trying to make Rosie feel better.
Rosie giggled. "You're cute when your flustered."
"I'm what?" Romeo was taken aback by her words. "Er... Thanks?"
They seemed to quit talking for the next five minutes, simply eating their frozen dessert and only partially enjoying the other's company.
"So are you excited for the third Guardian Of Magic book?" Romeo tried to make conversation.
"I haven't read them." Rosie shrugged, more interested in her frozen yogurt.
"Oh." Romeo was disappointed. Julie loved that series. Oh well, at least he didn't have to worry about seeing her camping out for the new book too. "You should have at least seen the movie. It was great. The movie was a great adaptation! And it was just a fun night! Julie kept trying to pelt people with popcorn and Eric asked Emily out. It was an awesome night."
"You sure seem to talk about Julie a lot." Rosie sighed.
"Yeah, well, I guess that's because besides Anthony she's my best friend." Romeo admitted. He paused before sighing. "That's all we are though."
"Good," Rosie smiled, placing her hand on his. "Because I really like you, Romeo."
Romeo didn't know how to respond. Lie and lead her on? Be honest and hurt her feelings. In the end he decided not to reply.
He finished his frozen yogurt way before Rosie did, so instead of trying to continue the conversation he simply played with his spoon.
"Uh... Well, this was fun." Rosie stated finishing her yogurt.
"Yep."
"Perhaps we should do it again sometime." Rosie suggested.
"Yeah, maybe." Romeo said, disinterested. They walked to the door.
"Well, see you!" Rosie said, as if waiting for something.
Romeo looked at her, confused. What else did she want? Oh! He raised his hand for a high five.
Rosie stared at him. This was not going well. He was about lower his hand when Rosie responded with a weak and awkward high five.
"See you!" Rosie said as she walked out of the yogurt place.
Romeo was about to follow her out, when he noticed a familiar girl wearing a black fedora.
She tripped. Her clumsy nature caused her to accidentally tackle him to the ground.
"Ah!" She squealed.
Romeo coughed on impact. "Julie?"
