Ch.5 Settle With the New

"Alright, give us details." Luka clapped his hands together on Hailey's laptop screen.

"He's been so annoying since you've been gone." Yuri grumbled on his own separate video on her screen, "'I wonder how Hailey's doing', 'I hope she's having fun', 'Hailey better not find a boyfriend, she's too young'." He mocked Luka

"Hey, I was worried about her because I'm her best friend" Luka defended.

Hailey giggled at the two's friendly bickering, "Not gonna lie that it warms my heart that you guys missed me and were worried."

"I wasn't worried!" Yuri yelled, in the background his cat, Potya, woke up from his proclamation and glared at him.

"You did most of your pouting the last week I was around." Hailey teased, mixing her bowl of ramen with her chopsticks. "It was endearing to see you all sad and clingy, Yura, I feel special for being the cause of you experiencing more than just one emotion."

Yuri stuck his tongue out and crossed his arms in a pout, causing Hailey and Luka to chuckle.

"Moving on from Yuri being in the corner, tell us how your first day went." Luka urged Hailey to expose the details of her day.

Hailey waved Luka off as she set her ramen bowl on the pulled out side table of her art desk. "Okay, so I already told you guys that I actually woke up on time and got there early. I kinda got lost at first, but a group of nice second year girls helped me out and my dumbass ran into one of my classmates. Landed on my ass. He was super nice though. Name is Kirishima, got spikey red hair- like super red hair, but he legit seemed like a good dude. Then as I try to step into my classroom, someone runs into me! Like nothing wanted me to get into my classroom! But he was an angel in the form as a human broccoli!" Hailey explained, with added enthusiasm.

Luka laughed, while Yuri gave her a confused looked.

"What the actual fuck?" He blinked.

"That's not his quirk, I promise! It's actually a superstrength quirk but it literally hurts him when he uses it." Hailey emphasized.

"That sucks, is he a late bloomer or something? Sounds like something from when you first get your quirk. I remember how much your nose bleed when you sneezed out your first wavelength, I thought you broke your nose." Luka inquired, leaning back in his beanbag chair.

"I never thought of that, maybe that's the case. His old classmate, who literally makes you look like an angel Yuri, called him a quirkless loser. I just met the guy so maybe I'll ask him when we're closer friends." Hailey responded.

"Let me know what you find out, we're learning about this kinda thing in biology. Ms Murentio is going hard ball with this kinda thing." Luka remarked.

"You guys have it rough from the sounds of it." Yuri laughed as his cat hopped onto his lap and he petted it.

"Well not all of us get to be home-schooled, Yura." Hailey rolled her eyes.

"Competition season isn't over, I still have training and practice." Yuri argued.

"What's your plan for this year, Yura? Going solo again, or you doing a duet this year? Your win this year was pretty epic." Hailey questioned.

"I'm thinking of trying out some duets, but it depends on qualifications." Yuri answered, swinging side to side on his desk chair.

"Right, because there's more to focus on with duets, groups in general, because you can control yourself but not your partner." Luka added in understanding.

Yuri nodded, "Yeah, that's why I'm still on the fence. I don't know many people that are just as skilled as me."

Hailey snorted, "What about Otabek?"

Luka started laughing uncontrollably, "Oh my god, yes!"

Yuri's face shifted into an annoyed and angry one, "Why do you insist on bothering me about that?! Luka's being a rebound for that blue haired girl!"

"Marinette? Luka." Hailey looked to Luka, slightly scolding him. "Why are you doing that? She's gonna break your heart the minute Adrien seems interested in her again."

"It's not going to be like that, she's moved on!" Luka exclaimed.

"Yeah, right." Hailey and Yuri said in sync, not believing him.

"She's a nice girl, don't get me wrong, but she's got a lot of work to do on herself before jumping into a relationship. I'm not gonna criticize you anymore about it, but as your friend, that is my main concern. I don't want you to be used or get hurt." Hailey empathized in sincerity.

"I'll be careful, thanks." Luka smiled.

The three talked until the hours got late and they all had to sign off, Luka and Hailey had classes, while Yuri had practice in the morning.

As Hailey settled in her warm bed, feeling oddly satisfied with her day and was actually looking forward to the days to come.

The next day of school started out really well, as Hailey met up with Kirishima and they walked to class together, both talking about the news story about Red Riot last night because they both agreed that it was a pretty epic battle.

During English class, Hailey was an enthusiastic student, as it was her favourite subject. What others may have found boring, Hailey took delight in learning and interpreting, as she was able to make corrections to sentences in mere seconds.

"Based on the punctuation, the relative pronoun is in the last sentence." Hailey answered Present Mic's question.

"How do you know all this stuff?" Kirishima leaned over and whispered.

"I was the only one in my class who actually tried in English class." Hailey answered in a whisper, "Shakespeare made me look like a genius."

Lunch time came around quickly and it was the first moment of anxiousness Hailey felt at this school. She scanned the room that was already filled with students, and a lot of them. She wasn't entirely sure where she wanted to sit, or who she wanted to sit with.

She half expected to see Yuri and Luka waving to her from a table next to a window, and because of that, she suddenly felt melancholic as she reminsced.

Hailey then took noticed red and white walk by her, she blinked and realized that it was her classmate Shouto Todoroki. She remembered that her mother was friends with his father, and that they were friends until they were toddlers. But nobody really remembers those times.

She wanted to follow Todoroki in hopes of rekindling a friendship, but he left the room and she wasn't sure if maybe he was just going to the bathroom, so she decided to try her efforts another time.

"Hey Roselle." Kirishima greeted her, lightly nudging her with his arm while holding a tray with food.

"Heya Kirishima, what's up?" Hailey greeted back with a smile.

"You look like you don't really know where to sit, you wanna come chill with me and some of the guys from class?" The sharp tooth boy offered.

"Sure, thanks bud." Hailey accepted and followed him to the table where Sero and Kaminari were already sitting at.

"'Sup dudes." Hailey acknowledged the boys

"Roselle, welcome to the table." Kaminari jested.

Hailey giggled while she sat down beside Kirishima, "I am humbled."

"So Roselle, where did you go to school? Kaminari and I were trying to guess." Sero questioned.

"Yeah, you're giving me city girl, high end school vibes." Kaminari commented, Hailey raised an eyebrow as she noticed him look her up and down.

"But I'm thinking you private school, but the teachers were super chill." Sero argued.

"Well you will both be surprised, because I actually went to public school in a small farming town." Hailey corrected, as she began to eat her lunch.

"So what, you rode horses to school?!" Kaminari exclaimed.

"Dude." Kirishima and Sero deadpanned in embarrassment for their friend.

"No, actually cows, it was always a race too, because the school had limited space in the waiting barn." Hailey retorted, her voice laced in sarcasm.

"What really?!" Kaminari gasped.

Hailey resisted the urge to face palm herself, as she found herself questioning Kaminari's gullible nature. "No, Kaminari, my friend drove me on his motorcycle." She clarified.

"Ooohh, why didn't you just say that?" Kaminari pouted.

"I wanted to see how long I could make you think I was a stereotypical redneck, but it was getting a little too easy that I felt bad." Hailey teased. "Now your turn to tell me about yourselves."
