Chapter 2 Activation Part 2
(With Catala)
Catala was running down the street terrified for her life, all she was thinking about right now was how to get off the planet. She knew it would be dangerous for her to stay, but she didn't know where else she could go. The Neekuns had a large amount of planets under their control so she didn't know where she would be safe. Also her face will be all over their systems soon and that meant she'd be in even more danger than before. A laser blast then passed by her, almost hitting her head. She looked back to see that two of the Neekun's were chasing her.
'Oh no! NONONONO! This can't be happening to me! Why did I have to be the last Andromeda? Now life will be even harder to live and even more dangerous!' Catala thought to herself.
"Hey you two, leave her alone!" Catala and the Neekuns heard someone call out.
They all looked back and saw two of the rebels running up to them with their weapons out. Catala saw that the two Neekuns were now distracted so she took this as her opportunity to continue running back to her home. When the Neekuns looked back they saw that Catala was running away again.
"Hey the Andromeda is getting away!" One of the Neekuns called out.
"Oh no you don't missy, you're not getting away from us!" The other Neekun called out.
"Actually she is getting away from you and coming with us!" Alexia called out.
"Yeah we're not letting you Neekuns make the Andromeda race go extinct!" Cord said then started firing his guns at them.
The two Neekuns dogged their fire and started shooting back while also trying to continue following Catala.
(Meanwhile)
Vack was closing up his restaurant and was about to turn in for the night. That was until a glow caught his eye, he looked a bit closer at it and saw that it was Catala's hair that was glowing. She then ran past the restaurant and Vack saw that her hair was now cosmic and was flowing. His eyes widened when he saw that and he started panicking.
"Oh No! Her powers are activated already! I-I thought I had more time! NoNoNo! What should I do? What if the Neekuns saw here? No Vack Relax it's gonna be okay, you just gotta get it together. Now Catala's father told you that if her powers became active that you needed to get her off planet and take her to a friend of his where she'll be safe." Vack said to himself.
He then got a data pad out and looked up the coordinates. Once he had them, he started packing a get off the planet bag for himself and Catala as it would take them a few days to get there.
(Back with Catala)
Catala was in her cave/home and was packing up all the important items she would need. She then looked at her parents' altar and grabbed their photos before putting them in the bag. She then looked at her mothers old battle clothes and decided that now was as good a time as any to finally put them on.
So she went into her makeshift bathroom and quickly changed into her mothers old clothes. Once she was done she looked into the mirror she had and saw that it was a bit baggy on her, but it was still a good enough fit. The suite had black gloves, boots, and the shirt was cosmic along with the pants. The suite also had a cloak with it and the inside of it was cosmic while the outside was black. The suite covered Catala's whole body and it looked like a stealth suite.
"Wow I wonder what kind of a person my mom was? Agh it doesn't matter, my life is in danger now and I gotta get out of here." Catala said to herself.
"Don't worry I know where we can go and be safe." Catala heard Vack say.
She peeked out from the curtain and saw Vack had the stuff she packed and some other bags in his arms.
"Um Vack what do you mean? And how did you know I needed to leave?" Catala asked, confused.
"*Sigh* Catala I think now is a good time to tell you about your mother. Your mother was an Andromeda and your father was scared to death about what would happen to you if your powers became active or if anyone had found out. So in order to protect you he keeps it all away from you, however he knew that one day your powers would activate so he told me that when that day comes and he's unable to take you to a safe place he would be honored if I did it." Vack explained.
"Wait what?! My mother was an Andromeda! I-I can't believe it! Now I know why I'm one of them. From what I learned in school before I dropped out was that Andromeda's could only give birth to their own kind as their DNA is too powerful for any other race to be born from them." Catala explained.
"Yes exactly, and now that your powers are active it's no longer safe for you here, thankfully your father has a friend who can take care of you for a while till it's safe for you again." Vack explained while taking Catala by the hand and leading her outside.
"Oh thank you Vack, I'm so glad my dad had a friend like you." Catala said.
"Anytime Kiddo, now let's get you out of here and to safety." Vack said.
"Oh I don't think you two are going anywhere." The two heard someone say. When they looked standing right in front of them were two bounty hunters. "What the heck?!" Vack said.
"Hehe you really think we were going to let you leave with the Andromeda? HA! No, it's coming with us and we're taking the money the Neekuns have for her arrest." One of the bounty hunters said.
"No way she's just a child, please don't do this." Vack begged.
"Haha, like we care that reward is going to make us rich." The other bounty hunter said.
The two hunters then got out their weapons and pointed them at the two. When Catala saw the guns again she had more flashbacks to the horrible day she lost her father. She then let out an ear piercing scream which stunned Vack and the two bounty hunters started to turn into stone. When Catala opened her eyes she saw the two hunters were completely stone and Vack was dazed by her shrek.
"W-what on earth was that?!" Catala asked, shocked by what she did.
"Ugh I-it doesn't matter, we just need to get out of here come on let's get going." Vack said then gripped titer onto Catala's hand and led her away from the area.
(Meanwhile back with the rebels)
The rebels had taken care of the Neekuns that were threatening the Bomandy's and their party guests. Now they were bringing everyone into their ship to take them somewhere safe.
"Um hey had those other two rebels contacted you about Catala?" Astra asked.
"Not yet but Cord and Alexia have told me that they are heading to the shipyard as they believe that Catala would want to get off the planet." Badar explained.
"Oh o-okay well let me know if they find her." Astra said sadly.
"I will, I can see she means a lot to you." Badar said.
"Yeah she does." Astra said before going inside the ship.
When Astra was inside she sat down in a chair and buried her head in her hands.
"Oh Astra dear, I'm so sorry about all this." Mr. Bomandy said.
"It's not your fault dad, it was the Neekuns, if they never had come here things would be fine. But now I'm mostly upset that I might never tell Catala how I feel about her." Astra explained disappointed.
"Oh Honey I know, but Catala's going to be fine. The rebels will help her out, and they'll help us find a safe place to live." Mr. Bomandy explained.
Astra just kept her head down and in her hands as she didn't feel like talking more about the matter. Right now she just wants to process everything that is happening and hope that Catala will be fine.
(Back with Vack and Catala)
The two were almost at the shipyard and Catala had the hood of her mothers cloak up so no one could see her hair. The last thing she wanted was more bounty hunters attacking her and Vack while they were on their way to get off the planet.
"Vack how much farther till we're there?" Catala asked.
"We're almost there, don't worry we'll be off this planet sooner than you can say cortex." Vack reassured her.
"Okay I really hope that this friend of my dad will really keep me safe." Catala said.
"I'm sure he will, he sounded like someone we can trust." Vack said.
Catala smiled when she heard that and she looked up at the stars in the night sky. While she was happy to be going somewhere where she would be safe she was also nervous as this would be her first time off planet. However she didn't have much time to think about it as the next thing she knew was the bike she and Vack was riding was blasted out from underneath them.
The two then fell off and Catala was almost knocked out when she hit the ground, but when she opened her eyes she felt someone grabbing onto her hair. She looked to see who it was and was horrified to see that it was a Neekun.
"Haha You thought it'd be that simple to get away from us? HA! No you forget that we have an unlimited amount of resources, and everyone fears us. So it was simple to find you and this Yavet." The Neekun explained.
"Owowow! Stop it, leave me alone!" Catala screamed with tears in her eye's.
"Haha Listen to those pathetic whales, what a baby. So much for the ultimate Andromeda that was in the legend ha!" The Neekun laughed.
Vack then got up and ran up to the Neekun that was holding onto Catala's hair and punched him in the face. The Neekun fell to the floor unconscious, and Vack picked up Catala and held her in his arms.
"Catala! Are you okay?!" Vack asked, worried.
"Y-yeah I'm okay my head just hurts from that impact." Catala explained.
Vack smiled happily that she was alright, that was until he screamed in pain as he was suddenly shot in the back. He then fell to the floor in pain, but kept a good grip on Catala as he was going to keep the promise he made to her father to his grave.
Catala screamed and cried when she saw Vack getting hurt and it once again brought her back to the day she lost her father. That was because her father was holding her in his arms the same way as Vack was and her father was also killed by getting shot in the back. She then looked behind Vack's hunched back and saw one of the Neekun commanders holding a blaster that he used to shot Vack with.
"So this is the Andromeda and the Yavet that was trying to escort her off the planet? Hmm I gotta say I'm disappointed. I thought that the last Andromeda would be more tough but I guess I was wrong. All she is is just a pathetic child who doesn't even know how to use her powers." The Neekun commander said.
He then pointed the gun to Catala's face and she freaked out again. She closed her eyes fearing for the worst, that was till she heard a blast, but she didn't feel any pain. When she opened her eyes again she saw two of the rebels fighting the Neekuns.
"AHA you Neekuns always underestimate us!" Cord exclaimed.
"Yeah you boys need to stop being so cocky it's going to bite you all in the but one day... oh wait it has HAHA!" Alexia laughed.
The two then continued fighting the Neekuns and Catala tried her best to help out Vack as he was in a lot of pain and she was worried she was going to lose him the same way she lost her dad.
"Vack please don't do this to me! I can't lose you like I lost dad! *Sniff* I-I just can't! *Sob*" Catala then started crying as she was scared to death that she was about to lose Vack.
She then looked at the Neekun commander and felt hatred fueling her heart as he had hurt someone she was very close to. The more she looked at him the more she wished he would just keel over and die. Just then a white orb then appeared right next to Catala's head and it flew right to the commander, hitting him right in the chest. The commander then fell to the ground and didn't move... or breath.
When everyone saw that they froze in place for a moment, before looking at Catala who was horrified by what she had just done.
Everyone just stared at Catala for a moment, till a Neekun said "AHA! So now we have a bigger reason to get rid of her! Her kind is out of control and dangerous, she just killed our commander and who's to say she wont do the same to the rest of us!"
The Neekun was then shot by Cord who said "that's just because she just found out about her abilities this night, you Neekuns are insane thinking she can control so much power in just a few hours!"
"Yeah you all are insane and we're going to make sure that in some time our new friend here will be able to control her abilities!" Alexia exclaimed.
The two rebels then ran to Catala and Vack and helped both of them along with their stuff to a nearby transporter. It wasn't easy though as they still had to fight off the Neekuns, but they managed to get on the transporter and escape the scene.
When they were somewhat safe Catala fell to the ground and began to cry. Her entire life was turned upside down in just one night and she now wasn't safe on the only planet she knew as home. She just sat there and cried her heart out as she felt like she would never be safe.
Cord looked at her and saw how upset she was, so he went up to her and gave her a hug. Catala then buried her head in his shoulder and cried into it and Cord just stroked her lovely hair in an effort to comfort her. After a while Catala calmed down and stopped crying, but she was still sniffling a bit.
"Hey you feeling a bit better now?" Cord asked.
"Y-Yeah I feel a lot better, but I still can't believe that I'm the last Andromeda." Catala explained.
"Well you wont need to worry as us rebels will be taking care of you from now on kid, so just stick with us." Cord explained trying to reassure her.
Catala smiled and thanked Cord before giving him a big hug. Cord smiled and hugged her back, he then looked at Vack and saw that his skin was starting to turn from green to gray.
"Um is that normal for a Yavet's skin to turn from green to gray?" Cord asked, confused.
Catala was also confused by what he said, she then looked to Vack and her face turned to horror as she saw Vack. She then ran up to him and held onto his hand with worry and sadness in her eyes.
"Vack! What's going on?! Why is your skin turning gray?!" Catala asked, worried for her mentor and father figure.
"*gasp* I-it means that my time has c-come. The blast hit a vital point in my back and I'm not going to make it." Vack explained.
When Catala heard that she felt her entire world shatter and she began crying hysterically and begged Vack not to leave her. Vack then looked at Catala and put one of his hands on her face, stroking it lovingly.
"D-Dont worry Kiddo, I-I kept my promise to your father, I protected you for as long as I could. However it's time for this old body to go up into the stars. Catala I need to ask you something, *gasp* when you and the rebels take off into space will you please have them throw my body out into space, as it will turn to stone. I want my body to become a beautiful comet for others to admire. *cough cough* So will you do it?" Vack asked.
Catala sniffed again and said "Yes I'll make your final wish come true. It's thanks to you that I had food on my plate, and you gave me so much love that any father would've given their daughter. Thank you so much for all you have done for me Vack. I just wish I didn't have to say goodbye so soon to you." Catala explained.
"I-I know, but don't worry this isn't goodbye, as I'll always be with you. I'll be in your heart and in your memories." Vack explained while tears started streaming down his face.
Catala held his hand tighter and nuzzled into it, Vack smiled before lying back and closing his eyes, he then took one final breath and passed on. When Vack stopped breathing Catala couldn't help but let a river of tears flow out of her eye's as she had just lost another loved one. Cord frowned and hugged Catala tight as she cried and mourned over her loss.
(Later)
Catala, Alexia, and Cord had just arrived at the ship and they saw Badar standing at the ship's entrance waiting for them. When they came out Badar smiled happy to see them, but that smile soon faded when he saw the three of them taking out Vack's body from the transporter.
"Oh no what happened?!" Badar asked, worried.
"It's a long story, but for another time Catala here is very drained from how much crying she has been doing." Cord explained.
"Okay I understand, is there any kind of burial he wanted us to do or any other final wish?" Badar asked.
"Well he wanted us to have his body ejected out into space as his body will turn to stone and he wanted it to become a comet." Alexia explained.
"Well we can do that, and if anyone else here knows him and wants to say their final goodbyes then we'll let them." Badar explained.
"I-I think Vack would've appreciate that." Catala explained.
"I'm glad to hear that, and don't worry kid me and my crew will take good care of you." Badar said.
"Thanks... I just hope you wont end up like my father of Vack." Catala said.
"Don't worry we won't let that happen, now let's get a move on, the Neekuns will be here soon and the last thing we need is more tragedies on our hands. We'll let this guy have his final wish come true, take the refugees to a safe place, and have Catala safe with us as she'll be safer with us then alone." Badar explained.
Everyone nodded and brought Vack's body inside along with Catala's belongings. Once she was inside Astra almost tackled her in a big hug.
"Ack! Nice to see you again as well Astra." Catala said.
"I'm just so happy that you're alright, after you turned out to be the last Andromeda I was so worried about what the Neekuns were going to do to you." Astra explained.
"Well... not all of us made it out alive." Catala said sadly while looking to Vack.
Astra looked at Vack's body and when she saw him she felt even worse for Catala than before as she knew how much Vack mattered to her.
"Don't worry Catala, he's in a better place, and he kept that promise he made to your father." Cord explained while putting a reassuring hand on Catala's shoulder.
"T-Thanks Cord, but still I wished he had survived." Catala said before letting go of Astra and hugging Cord.
When Astra saw that she started feeling jealous of Cord and the fact that Catala and him seemingly got along so well despite having just met.
(Later)
The Rebels ship was now up in space and everyone was in the air duct paying their final respects to Vack before they let his now stone body out into space.
"Today we fought well against the Neekuns, we saved lives, stole back what the Neekuns stole from others, and sadly we say goodbye to a brave soldier who fought well and helped to protect the innocent. This is why we as the rebellion we fight for the freedom of others, We fight to set the innocent free! And most importantly we fight to prevent such tragedies. Tonight we might have lost a brave warrior, but the afterlife has gained a brave angel and a true man." Badar said then whipped his eye as a small tear came out.
Everyone teared up as well as they all said their goodbyes to Vack and Catala left a hechle flower in his stone hand as they were his favorite. They all then backed away from the airlock and Badar opened it up letting Vack's body fly out of it and allowing it to become a commit.
Catala felt her heart as someone she loved dearly and helped her when times got tough and was now gone forever. Cord noticed this and offered to take her to her new room so she could rest up. She aggrieved and followed Cord to her new room to rest.
Astra stood there watching, feeling even more jealous than before.
She sighed and went to the room she and her parents would be sleeping in till they got to the safe place the Rebels were taking them to. When she got there she sat down on her bed and laid back disappointed by the disaster her birthday turned out to be.
Her best friend was now in danger of the Neekuns and bounty hunters, and her family now had to go into hiding, and worst of all she never got the chance to tell Catala that for years she was in love with her and Cord might take Catala's heart first.
