Chapter 16: A Bloodied Sword

I was........ still processing what Ái had said, She, she said yes!

At the moment, she was sleeping next to me. Snuggled against my arm like it was a pillow, I didn't mind either, it was comforting to know that she wanted to be close.

Luna was laying on my chest, she was smaller than most dogs, but that still didn't mean she wasn't a little heavy. In fact she was a little heavier than usual, maybe she had eaten something big?

Ái shuffled beside me, I hadn't slept much, I was too preoccupied with my thoughts, though I had dozed off a few times.

Then again, I always had trouble sleeping. At 'home' dad would always kick me every time I fell asleep. And mom, well, she wasn't around much.

I use the term home loosely, as I never felt safe there, even when mom was there, I still didn't fell exactly safe.

Here? Here is my home, at Ái's side, boyfriend, best friend, or otherwise. I don't plan to leave.

A sudden jolt in my chest brought me out of my thoughts. And I stared right into Luna's chocolate eyes, she was awake.

"Hey, why are you awake?" I asked very quietly, trying my best not to wake Ái.

She nuzzled my face and gently stepped off the bed, she held my hand in her teeth and tried to pull me off the bed.

"Okay, okay. I'll follow you." I slowly go of the bed, Ái sometimes slept very lightly, and any sudden noise might wake her up.

The bed made a concussive squeak, and I looked back.

She moved a little, but luckily she was still asleep.

Luna dragged me to the door and I looked out the window before I opened it.

Something huge and black was at the door, it looked like a giant bear. Luna pawed at it still not making any noise.

"Is anyone even there Pap?" A deep, rough, and very quiet voice asked, from the bed it just sounded like wind.

"I dunno, D, But I know this place is a gold mine. We can steal a lot of shit here, and even if there is we can take 'em." A lighter, but just as rough voice responded. And I felt my heart go into my stomach.

I tiptoed over to the bed. And shook Ái awake.

"Huh? Wha-" She started, but I shushed her.

"Go get your armor and guns, there's two raiders at the door. I'll go get mine." She nodded and gently got out of bed, and went into the cupboard.

I sped walked to the storage room and grabbed my pistol and sword. I put on my armor, and grabbed Luna's suit.

She pretty much jumped into it, and it only took a second to clasp on her leather armor.

Afterwards I saw Ái listening at the door. And she looked flushed.

"There coming from the back window. Léon, they are armed." She said quietly, and held my arm.

"We stage an ambush, don't kill unless you have to, if they want fair fight, they have another thing coming." I grabbed her hand and smiled.

"Now, you and Luna get behind the door in the storage room, I'll take my place in the bookshelf."

"What? No! They could kill you if they figure you out." She whispered, but with a tone of 'no way' in her voice.

"We don't have time to argue, just do it!" I pushed her into the room and I hid in the bookshelf, crouching down into one of the empty shelves.

Almost instantly afterwards, I heard the window pop open. And two loud pairs of feet hit the floor.

"They must be out. Good, I heard that the girl who lives here is a crazy good fighter." One of them said.

You got that right, but you forgot one big detail. Me.

"Then why are we here?! I'm pretty sure I saw people in here. And I don't wanna fight a lady."

"Ugh, Shut up, we are here for a quick buck. Now start stealing." I heard the loudest raid ever done follow. I howled loudly, to signal that I was about to start shooting.

"What was that?!"

"Ambush!"

The lights burst on as we jumped out of our hiding spots. Luna was growling and barking and we held up our guns.

"Shit." One of them said, and now I could get a good look at them.

They both were scared and hardened, one had an eyepatch. But they had no armor, and only knives tucked into their belts. One was blonde, had hazel eyes, and was slightly shorter. The other had black hair, and amber orange eyes. He looked very angry.

"Put the stuff down, and maybe we'll reconsider about shooting you." Ái said, her face emotionless, like a strong unmovable rock.

"No way-" the black haired man started. But a clattering signaled that the blonde one dropped his stuff.

"Yes ma'am!" He gave her a salute, and I had to hold in a chuckle.

"Dylan! What are you doing!" The black haired man yelled, turning on his partner.

"What? I don't wanna get shot, 'sides my mama always said to respect a lady's wishes." He put his hands behind his back and bowed.

"How did you get hired!?!"

"Alright bud, your outnumbered now, how about you put down our stuff and leave. We'll let you leave without a scratch." I piped up for the first time, my voice switched from normal to something commanding.

"You'll have to kill me." he grabbed a knife and threw it at Ái, who barely dodged it.

"Pap! What are you doing!" The Dylan tried to hold him back but Pap, whipped around and knocked him out.

"I'll deal with you later! Die you little bitch!" He threw another, and it grazed her arm.

I felt my stomach boiling, and my vision went red. I pulled the trigger and the man was pushed back, and I felt myself lunge at him with my sword.

There was a sickening wet, meat slicing sound. And my hand was drenched in blood. I felt the man lunge and choke. My vision slowly returned, and I slid my sword out, and he hit the floor in a pool of his own blood.

Ái was backing away from me, and the other one, Dylan, was already gone. He didn't even take his own stuff, let alone ours.

Somehow, the man didn't die. He just fell on the ground. Choking on his own blood, and I sat him up so he didn't die drowning in blood.

He stopped choking and I walked into the first aid room and got a stabilizer, an old one we had I few and I felt kinda bad, what had gotten into me, yes, I tried to make sure I didn't hit any major organs. I didn't want to kill him, just maim him. But a part of me was hoping he would just fall and die.

I shot it into his body, and in about five minutes the bleeding had lessened and he had stopped breathing as hard.

Ái handed me bandages and we wrapped it around him, he would have a scar, and some issues digesting food, but he should live unless I hit his lungs, my sword was sharp enough to not leave any blunt force damage.

After about an hour, he looked back up at us and gave us a confused look.

"W-why *cough* why didn't you.... let me die? I should have...... you...." He tried to speak, but he was losing consciousness. And I popped the window back open.

I wrote a note saying:

I don't believe in killing unless I have to, as long as you don't over exert yourself, you should be fine. Your stuff is at the front door. Leave before we wake up again.

I then stuck it on him and rolled him out the window. And then set his stuff at the front door.

Blood was covering my hands, my pants, my shirt, everything. Including the carpet, but it was already stained with who knows what, so it wasn't that big of an issue.

"You should take a shower, you look like you just-"

"Killed someone. Yeah, I know..... Part of me meant to."
