Growlithe

The gang were traveling through a forest until they saw a Growlithe biting the pant leg of a burglar.

"What's going on over there?" Ash said

"Growl!" Another Growlithe came & jumped up on Ash in affection

"Whoa, hello there." Ash said surprisingly

"Growlithe, not again." A voice said

They looked & saw an Officer Jenny

"I'm sorry about that." Jenny apologized. "Growlithe, get down."

But the other Growlithe didn't listen as it was still on Ash looking up at him with a happy look

"Growlithe, I said get down." Jenny scolded but it still didn't listen

"Down Growlithe." Ash said as Growlithe got down.

"Now sit."

Growlithe sat down

"Lie down."

Growlithe laid down

"Wow, it never does that when I give it orders." Jenny said surprisingly

"So, what're you doing here?" Brock asked

"We're training our Canine Police Unit." Jenny said "& these Growlithe are our police Pokémon"

Jenny blew a whistle & a horde of Growlithe came

"I guess Growlithe are the perfect Pokémon for the authorities." Serena said

"These Growlithe seem very well-trained." Brock said

"They are, we haven't been properly introduced, but I'm Officer Jenny." Jenny said

"I'm Ash Ketchum, & these are my partners Pikachu & Meowth." Ash introduced

"I'm Serena & these are my partners Eevee & Togepi." Serena introduced

"& I'm Brock." Brock introduced

"Well, it's nice to meet you." Jenny smiled "& did you say your name was Ash Ketchum?"

"Yes, it is." Ash said

"Oh, you must be the one Officer Jenny from Viridian City told me about." Jenny said

"She told you about me?" Ash asked

"Of course, she told me that you found out who's responsible for Team Rocket's revival." Jenny said

"Oh, it was nothing really." Ash said

"It definitely was something, you kids must be tired from your travels." Jenny said "Come with me to the station."

Back at the station.

"So Jenny, what were you teaching the Growlithe?" Serena said

"We're teaching them how to take on armed opponents." Jenny said "It can be very risky, unless it has special training."

"Growl." The Growlithe from before barked as it jumped on Ash's lap & licked his face.

"Hey!" Ash laughed

"Looks like Growlithe likes you, Ash." Brock chuckled

"Yeah, that's the one we're having trouble with." Jenny sighed

"Why's that?" Serena asked

"Well, this Growlithe easily gets distracted & doesn't obey orders." Jenny said "If this keeps up, we have no choice but to release it in the wild."

"I know, why don't you have Ash train it? It obeyed when he gave it commands, maybe he can help Growlithe." Serena suggested

"That's a great idea." Jenny said.

"What do you say, Ash? Think you can help?" Brock asked

"Absolutely." Ash said with determination

The next early morning.

"Alright Ash, time to wake up." Jenny said as she entered the room turned on the light

"What?" Ash said as he woke up

"Eh? What time is it?" Meowth said drowsily

"It's 4 o'clock, time to start Growlithe's training" Jenny said

"Growl Growl!" Growlithe said as it licked Ash's face

"Okay okay, I'm up." Ash said as he got out of bed

Later

"Alright, you'll be taking a test on the obstacle course." Jenny said "You'll be running it alongside Growlithe, because a trainer won't ever be respected if he won't do something he asks his Pokémon to do."

"Right." Ash nodded

"You think Ash will handle this?" Brock said

"Sure, I believe he can." Serena said

"Ready, Set, Go!" Jenny said as he pressed the button of her stopwatch

First Ash & Growlithe ran to the wire net.

"Growlithe, crawl." Ash said as he & Growlithe crawling under the net

"Aroo!" Growlithe yelped

"What's wrong?" Ash asked as he saw Growlithe's tail caught in the wire "Hold on, I got you."

After Ash got Growlithe's tail unstuck, they made it through the wire net, & ran to the high wall

"Alright, now climb." Ash said as he climbed over the wall

"Wow, Boss is very athletic." Meowth said in amazement

"Eevee." Eevee said in awe

Growlithe got halfway up, but ended up falling down.

"Come on Growlithe, you can do it. I know you can." Ash encouraged

"Growlithe." Growlithe nodded as he climbed up & went over the wall

"Good job." Ash praised

After they were done

"17.5 seconds, not bad." Jenny complimented

"What's next?" Ash asked

"Next we're gonna learn how to help people in distress." Jenny said as the officer who was dressed as a burglar from before came out. "When someone is being attacked, Growlithe has to come & stop the attacker. If we're gonna do this part, we need a volunteer."

"I can help." Serena volunteered

"Alright, now let's get started." Jenny said

"Hand over your purse, young lady." The Officer said as he grabbed Serena

"Oh no, someone help!" Serena cried

"Go get him, Growlithe." Ash said

"Growl!" Growlithe barked as he tackled the Officer to the ground.

"My hero." Serena giggled

"Guess we're making good progress." Jenny said

Then suddenly an explosion was heard. When they went to the source of the explosion, they saw Butch & Cassidy in police officer uniforms.

"It's Team Rocket." Brock said

"What are you doing here?" Ash glared "I guess you're not here to turn yourself in."

"Please, that's the last thing we wanna do." Cassidy scoffed

"We're here to steal the Growlithe that are here." Butch said

Cassidy blew a whistle & all the Growlithe came. Then Cassidy pulled out a megaphone.

"Alright Growlithe, line up." Cassidy said in Jenny's voice as the Growlithe lined up on Team Rocket's side.

"Now listen, Growlithe that Officer Jenny is an imposter, arrest her at once." Cassidy commanded as the Growlithe went into attack position

"No Growlithe, they're the imposters." Jenny said but the Growlithe didn't listen. "Why aren't they listening to me?"

"That voice-changing megaphone is confusing the Growlithe into thinking that Cassidy is the real Jenny." Brock said

"Growlithe!" The Growlithe Ash had trained rushed to the gang's side

"Growlithe." Ash said surprisingly

"What do you think you're doing? Get back here with the others." Cassidy demanded

"Growl." Growlithe growled

"Didn't you hear what I said? Come here now." Cassidy demanded but Growlithe still didn't listen

"Why isn't the mutt, listening to you, Cassidy?" Butch said confusingly

"That's right, Growlithe only listens to what I say." Ash said. "Growlithe get that megaphone."

Growlithe ran at fast speed, grabbed the megaphone, & went back to Ash

"Alright Growlithe, line up." Jenny said as the Growlithe went back to Jenny

"Now Attack."

The Growlithe used Flamethrower sent Team Rocket blasting off again

Later.

"We had a great time Officer Jenny, & that was a great workout." Ash said

"I'm glad to hear that. Ash, how would you like to take Growlithe with you?" Jenny asked

"Really?" Ash said

"It's clear that this Growlithe won't ever listen to me. So, I believe you should take it." Jenny said

"Are you sure?" Ash asked

"Yes, take it as a reward for helping us discover who revived Team Rocket. Besides, Jenny from Viridian City was the one who requested it." Jenny said

"Well, in that case." Ash said as he pulled out a Poké Ball "Welcome to the team, Growlithe."

"Growl!" Growlithe barked happily

"Go Poké Ball!" Ash said as he threw the Poké Ball at Growlithe & caught it. "Awesome, I caught a Growlithe."

After catching Growlithe & saying goodbye to Officer Jenny, the gang pressed on to Cinnabar Island, as the journey continues.
