The Questions Still Remain
The question still remained in my head. Sasaki and his squad were already thinking I was some random crazy person. Well, not so much with Sasaki. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me aside, away from the others.
"I'll be back in just a minute." He told them. When we were far enough away, he spoke.
"Did you know the person that lived as me for the first 20 years?" was his first question. I nodded.
"How much do you know?" was his second question.
"More than you." I answered.
"Will you tell me more about him?" was his last question. I nodded. At my response, he relaxed a little more. Before I can bring Kaneki's memories back, I have to know who I'm dealing with first. Can he be trusted? I looked over at the onlooking squad. Can they be trusted? What do I do first to accelerate the plan for Zeref? What? I must've spaced out again because Sasaki was waving his hand in front of my face again.
I wanted to say sorry but there was no need.
"What is your name?" He asked.
"I will tell you when the time is right." I replied. Things were progressing very slowly but I still had roughly two and half months left.
Sasaki and I began walking back over to the impatient squad.
"Took you two long enough." Urie said sarcastically. I shot him a dirty look, causing him to flinch. Snobby brat always acting like he's better than everybody else. Sounds like me.
"Can we go on a walk?" Sasaki asked out of the blue. I turned my head so fast, I could've snapped my neck.
"Uh, sure? I guess." I said quizzically. The first class investigator waved a goodbye to his squad as we walked out the door.
"I want to meet some people that knew this person inside my head." He told me.
"You do realize that you're a ghoul investigator and half of Kaneki's friends are ghouls right?" I threw that response at his face and made sure to rub it in.
For about the next 10 minutes, he didn't say a word until our path was blocked by a few familiar ghouls.
"I thought we told you that this was a bad idea." Touka snorted. Great.
"What's going on?" Sasaki asked from behind.
"That's Touka. One of Kaneki's friends." I replied. I didn't look behind to see the look on his face but I could feel a strong sense of tension.
"Who are the others?"
"Ayato, Tsukyama, and Hinami."
"If you want me to help you Sasaki then you can't report these guys to the CCG, got it?" I demanded. He didn't respond.
"What do you mean by help him?" I heard Hinami ask. I looked at the sweet eyes that belonged to Hinami.
"Don't you want big brother back?" I asked in a baby voice. She seemed to be filled with anger because I had just mocked her childish attitude. Poor girl. I apologized right away. That's when Sasaki started asking a few more questions.
"Big brother?" He questioned.
"You guys aren't actually related. Kaneki would always help Hinami with her reading." I said, turning around this time.
Touka looked at me with scolding eyes like the roar of a lion escaping past the row of teeth before it kills its prey. Her ghoul eyes were now activated. Sasaki retreated, he had left his quinque back at the office.
"I guess in the end that the questions still remain." I said to myself.
Touka released her kagune and was now charging straight at me. I dodged but she came back with a roundhouse kick. The heel of her foot made a cut on my left cheek, if I had been any closer she could've taken an eyeball.
"Hey! Be careful!" Sasaki shouted towards me. Sasaki's sentence distracted Touka, leaving her wide open. I came in with a solid punch to her stomach and sent her into the air. I then jumped high enough to where I was above her and dug my heel into her stomach.
She went crashing into the ground like a meteor crashing into the earth from space and causing the extinction of dinosaurs. That's how it ended. The battle. Not the war. Nor the questions. How was I able to defeat Touka, a ghoul, with only my bare hands and feet? Have I gotten stronger or am I just full of myself? Who can be trusted in this world with my plan?
Well, absolutely nobody can be entrusted with my plan. That is a final decision that is worth making without having to sacrifice anything.
Why are there so many questions that I must answer when I just barely got here? Why? See, more questions.
"What are you mumbling about?" Touka questioned. I glared back at her. She's always been this stubborn, even when we were still friends. Unless we were around Kaneki. If that were the case, she'd turn as soft as a marhmallow. Maybe that's why she doesn't want his memories to return. She doesn't want to feel weak anymore. She wants everyone to know that she idn't some weak little ghoul who can't protect herself.
"You know, I just figured something out." I said with a smirk. There were those scolding eyes of hers again. Deadly. Her face said it all. She was dying to know what I figured out.
"Can we leave now?" Ayato interrupted, breaking the tension between me and Touka. He looked really bored and angry at the same time. His purple hair, like Touka's, flew with the recent gust of wind. To be honest, he looked kind of adorable at that moment. He looked more like a six year old rather than the teenager that he is.
Touka relaxed her shoulders and her kagune retreated back into her back.
"Fine. Let's go." She replied angrily. She turned her back to me and the others followed. I simply turned away as well and Sasaki followed, still shocked from the events that happened in front of his very eyes.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern. We can't have that liitle brain of his become traumatized. To my relief, he nodded his head in response.
Great. One question answered, a lot more to go.
