21: Lost all the Time
"You sure you'll be fine?"
"I'll be okay!" I responded for the umpteenth time.
I was going to the camp...
I had decided that instead of laying on the bed like a dead cat, I should probably move about and go for an outing to freshen my mental as well as physical state.
Yoongi sighed, looking down at the wooden flooring as his mind wandered here and there.
"You've never really spent any good time with us ever since we've shifted." He inhaled.
Ouch.
Well, that kinda is somewhat true honestly. I've been troubled and not spending time with my family because of these things.
My eyes got stuck on my white shoes. I was speechlessly staring at my feet. What could I say?
"Whatever." I flinched slightly when a white parachute jacket got hovered over my shoulders. "Just make sure to spend time with us once you're back."
My mouth parted at the kind gesture. Usually, all my friends whined at having brothers because they always teased them but can I say that I literally feel blessed to have these angels beside me?
A smile adorned my lips as I blinked slowly as if thanking him for the sweetness.
"Also, the hills might be cold. So, remember to have that jacket on all the time, okay?"
"Okay." I nodded back cheerfully.
Picking up my bag, I put it down, opening its wheels to move swiftly when I heard Yoongi scoff with a chuckle.
"What is it?"
"It feels like you're leaving us forever."
"WHA- Heyyy shut up!" I grunted in something that was the opposite of joy, as I hit him slightly. How could he?
"Yoongi! I would never leave you all! I love you all so damn much, you know that right? I'd rather die than move out or walk away from you all." I whispered softly.
Namjoon was quite tired after the events of yesterday night and so, he was mass sleeping for more than 13 hours. Not that I mind, but he only does it when he seriously is tired and I won't ruin his peaceful slumber.
"Alright alright now go, fuck off."
"OMG, WHAT???"
"LEAVE~"
{ }
10:30 am
"Oh shit," I whined as I ran speedily through the main road almost tripping and falling on my face and breaking a tooth or two, but it was my leftover luck that helped me to somehow maintain my balance.
I was thirty minutes late...
Why, you might ask?
Well, after Yoongi supposedly kicked me out, I leisurely walked to the bus stop. After almost ten minutes I realized that the bus I had to board, had already left twenty minutes ago. And, I was late by thirty minutes!
I had long forgotten to check the schedule. Whenever my new school held a camp, the reporting time had always been 10:30. But unfortunately it was 10:00 in my case, today.
"I'M SORRY!" I apologized quickly yet awkwardly when a car that was almost about to run over me, stopped right in front of me with the sudden brakes.
I'm seriously losing my mind today...
After a few more minutes of continuous dog-like running, I finally saw the metallic gates of the school shining by the sun's rays, almost reflecting a rainbow shade with its prism-like texture.
I stopped, holding my knees and taking deep breaths to regain my peaceful countenance when I heard a loud cheering of my name.
"HE- Uh, MISO! Here!"
Just when my head shot up, I saw an enthusiastic Jimin waving at me with his eyes as small as crescents, as he tried to smile.
A smile took its place on my face too, but when I saw the ambiance, technically, the people around him, my smile deflated and my heart started to race along with an uneasy feeling.
I'm not making a mistake by going, right?
Around him, stood some other students, and amongst them, was Jisoo, staring at me with her piercing cold gaze as if they never had any emotions. Beside her, stood a quiet Kim Taehyung who when looked upon my figure at Jimin's shout, immediately looked away with his pretty orbs not showing a sign of pleasure to see me.
Wow... How amazing friends do I have, no?
Ignoring all the irritated stares, I forcefully smiled again, making my way to the energetic Jimin who was the only one who acknowledged my presence.
"Hey, Jimin! How are you?" I asked, high-fiving him.
"I'm good. I should ask you that. How are you feeling? Are you good?" His eyebrows furrowed in concern.
Right here Jimin...?
"Y-Yeah, I mean, what could possibly even happen to me? Haha..." I replied, scratching my nape.
It wasn't going to be that weird but when I felt firey holes right into my back, a natural stutter crept out of my throat.
Noticing the situation, Jimin unknowingly smirked.
Oh boy... What are you up to?
"I know. But when I took you to my house all shivering, I knew you were not fine. You had to be cared for. You had to be asked about your worries. And that's what I exactly did."
Oh my god...
Is he trying to make him jealous?
Cuz I think it's working...
Just as Jimin said those words with a hint of worry, caressing my hair, I could hear some slow yet very low deep breaths. More like grunts of displeasure.
I gulped. Trying to ask him to not do it, I opened my mouth but when he gave me wide eyes of disbelief, I knew I had to act along.
"That's true. I was kinda scared. You know, I don't really have anyone to talk to. It's just you with whom I can share my problems." I spoke softly, almost as if melting his heart when he gave me a secret wink, complimenting my acting skills.
Why am I doing this?
"Alright, then cutie! Let's board the bus and have fun today." He laughed heartily, bowing like a gentleman, offering me to enter in, first.
A hue of light pink shaded my cheeks at the action. I have always been quite shy. Whenever someone does something like this for me, I feel special... I like attention. I always have liked it. Actually, I strive for attention from Taehyung sometimes too.
I imagine if we were friends, it would be so beautiful. Just imagining his sweet smile emerging when he looks upon me, just him being joyous by being with me... Just imagine. It would be all flowery for me. But that isn't the case. He doesn't feel anything for me. He simply hates me. I wish I could tell him the truth.
Well, I can. But he would never believe me. Plus it would complicate things even more. He would get a hundred percent sure this time that I'm not Heejin but her twin. He would despise me even more.
And that's what I'm afraid of.
Getting on the bus, I sat at a peaceful corner in the middle of the bus, right beside a window. I love to watch the scenery while traveling. It helps me to calm my mind as well as kill time.
A girl from our class was going to sit on the seat attached to mine, but before she could, Jimin swung in, sitting on it. As he was short and small, he squeezed his way out quite easily through the space and settled down.
"Nice ass. But next time girlie." He winked.
Omg, what!?
Jimin you're a pervert...
That's what my judging eyes spoke when the girl's face turned red from embarrassment and she walked away as everyone laughed at Jimin's 'joke' but me.
"Pervert." I huffed, rolling my eyes as he slumped towards me chuckling lazily.
"Oh just wait for it. You still don't know what more I can say."
Winking again!?
I was about to give a savage reply but soon my words got lost when I saw Jisoo and Taehyung entering together, as the whole bus silenced. Not us, but the whole bunch of students experienced the thick tension among them. They looked as if they would rage in just a second and no one wanted to ruin their camp by getting shouted at, by them.
The bus finally started moving. To ease the atmosphere, the students started a round of rapid-fire, singing by taking chances. Though I didn't involve myself in the game, I quite enjoyed the atmosphere.
Jimin joined them too, singing some song with the lyrics 'I'd rather be lost in the lights'. It was catchy, I must say.
After a fit of laughter and finally feeling happy, I leaned back in my seat, gazing out the window at the passing landscape, hoping that the camp would bring some much-needed positivity and relaxation.
"Pretty..." I muttered, yawning at the cozy feeling.
We soon entered an area where the hills came into view. Big rounded peaks at the top, with a blanket of snow, engulfing them as if hugging them tightly.
The greenery all around was no less. The trees were soulfully swaying along with a slow rain of cherry blossoms on the bus as we moved past the town.
As the bus journey continued, the tension gradually eased, and conversations among the students resumed. Jimin kept me entertained with his jokes and playful antics, successfully distracting me from the underlying tension.
Hours passed, and we finally arrived at the campsite.
"Alright, everyone. Let's get off and find a suitable place to fix in the tents, yeah?" A camp-helper along with our teacher, announced.
A sense of excitement filled the air when we stepped off the bus. The picturesque surroundings and the promise of outdoor activities uplifted everyone's spirits.
"This is so good, damn." Jimin hissed at the beauty, fishing out his camera and clicking numerous pictures of the venue.
"But it would be even better if we were given rooms to stay in." He groaned when everyone started to take out their tent-fixing tools.
"Oh c'mon, Jimin. If we would stay in rooms all day, what would be the role of camping anyway?" I sniffed, zipping the jacket as up as possible. I'm glad my brothers kept this jacket for me. It feels warm and smells like home.
"Whatever. Who wants to stay in shitty tents with mosquitoes anyway?" He scoffed, mocking me with a girly tone when I hit his chest.
"Let's set up a tent. Do you have the things?" I asked, looking around, trying to spot someone. But he was nowhere...
Huh?
"Why will I get 'tent' supplies? Not a tenter, sorry."
I gasped in shock. He just literally lay down there on the cold ground, not bothered at all.
He didn't bring any tools? Is he gonna sleep on the cold ass soil at night?
"First of all, it's not a tenter. It's a tent-maker. And yeah, there are no tent-makers. People built them with handy tools and stuff like supporting rods, and sheets themselves when they go camping. Don't be useless." I exclaimed, slightly kicking him off his position with a soft kick.
"Ow."
"Get up."
"Noooo."
"Want me to kick you harder?"
"You can do something else, harder."
"Fuck you!"
"OKAY! Don't hit me, I'm up!"
And that's how the entire day went in setting up the tents.
One tent didn't take longer than thirty minutes but because I hadn't brought any tent but some supplies, I helped many other students in setting up their tents.
Technically, it wasn't their tents. The ones who had big tents, for almost two people, were told to bring theirs to set them up and the others would share with them.
Though it was extremely cold in the mountains, we were all sweaty by working so much. But it's good to work sometimes.
I was distracted by the 'work', but I still had my mind wandering somewhere far away. There was no sign of him anywhere. I saw him getting off the bus with us but now that I try looking for him, he's into the unknown.
Jimin being the lazy ass he is, was sleeping on the muddy ground all this time.
"Good work students. As we all know it is quite late, so we recommend you all to sleep for now. Let's start with our adventures tomorrow, what say?"
To this, all the students cheered a loud 'YES' sitting beside the bonfire with a mug of hot chocolate each.
My heart was now palpitating exceptionally roughly.
"Has anyone seen Taehyung?" I finally uttered, looking at the fun atmosphere, with no speck of him around.
"Hm? Oh, I haven't seen him anywhere since we got off the bus." A student spoke up, gaining my attention as he looked around too.
What...? Where is he?
"I remember I saw him walking into the woods an hour ago. I thought he was going to get some sticks of birch for the bonfire. But looks like he isn't back yet." Another girl exclaimed with a hint of worry.
"Huh? That's not a good sign. The forest is full of wild animals at night. Not that they come out, but attack when someone enters their area. Hopefully, he hasn't gone too deep into the forest."
...
And that's when my heart completely stopped.
Attack when someone enters their area...?
No way. No one can attack him.
An immediate rush of adrenaline pumped up my heart when an image of him being unconscious and bleeding entered my intrusive mind.
"He'll be okay, I'm sure of that," Jimin shouted, stretching his hands, taking it lightly.
Yeah of course. He will be okay. He isn't that weak but still.
Involuntary, before my mind could decide my heart's wish, I ran into the forest, hearing screams of 'stop' all around me as some people tried holding me but I didn't care.
I need to see for myself.
I need to know for myself.
I need to know he's okay.
{ }
I have never felt so scared in my entire life. Not even in Gam-Dong alley that day.
The owl sounds, crickets singing, and crunching of leaves on the forest floor even when I wasn't walking. Sounds of low grunts... It all made me nervous.
What if he's just normally having fun and I get eaten by a bear here? No one would care.
No no no... I should think positively.
Taking deep breaths and fanning myself to come out of the mesh of anxiety I was facing, I gathered all my bravery.
"T-Taehyung...? ARE YOU THERE?" I shouted out, as the crumpling of leaves got even harder.
Fuck.
I gulped when I almost shivered.
I shouldn't have come here.
But the thought of him suffering made me stronger. It gave me hope that I was okay. I wasn't suffering as bad as he was. And, I needed to save him.
Balling my fists, I walked further, deeper into the death hole. I had no torch, no source of light, nothing. I couldn't even see. The sounds were only proof that there was some life around me. The winds howling were making it even more eerie but I maintained a little courage.
Just as I felt a presence near me, my eyes lit up with hope, as I ran carelessly.
"Taehyung, is that you?" I asked slowly with a small smile but when I moved my legs again, they got stuck in a low vine, near the ground and I fell face flat on the moist grass.
"Urgh..." I whimpered as my legs got scratched.
"What the hell..." I sniffed when tears made their way into my eyes. I was all alone in the darkness, and the pain in the cold made it even more hopeless for me.
I miss my brothers and Daddy...
But this wasn't enough!
Just as I got on my back, I came face-to-face with a real wild bear this time. No imagination.
"AHHHH!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I ran once again, being careful this time.
It would've sounded really funny if this was a description of what was happening to me, but experiencing a four-times bigger bear running right behind me as I ran just two steps ahead of him, was gut-wrenching.
My legs were practically breaking and I could fall anytime. But I didn't want to die...
When I was running along with the loud wailing, Yoongi's words from the morning came into my mind.
"It feels like you're leaving us forever."
Why do I feel like that too? No, I don't want to die so early. I have so many dreams, so many things to do... I cannot just end them by simply closing my eyes.
But when is luck on my side?
My legs eventually gave up and I stopped midway, gasping for air as hard as possible.
My veins were popping prominently as if indicating the sign of my fear.
The bear almost touched my face with his sharpened teeth and I ultimately closed my eyes, taking in the harsh reality that it was the end of me for this life.
Maybe I was supposed to live this much only... Not more than this.
Just as I awaited the moment for my face to be torn into shredded pieces of skin, I felt nothing.
Just a softness around my waist with a loud thud and groan of the huge beast.
The situation made me flinchingly open my eyes wide, staring into another pair of mystical orbs that almost felt like a menacing myth that was not true and was a trap for me to drown into.
It was... Him.
His one hand rested on my waist as his other hand was in mid-air, emphasizing how he threw the bear with a single blow. It turned out to be so impactful that the bear almost fainted. At that moment, all the crumpling got replaced with silence and the crickets stopped singing.
The cold stare was even scarier than the unconscious bear in front of me, but I just... I couldn't feel afraid. Instead, I felt a sense of relief wash all over my body. I felt at home... I felt like I would cry.
And that's what exactly happened.
His deep breaths, red eyes, and shaking furiousness didn't scare me. Instead, it made me cry and hug him tight.
"T-Taehyung... Where the heck was you!? I was so... so afraid. I-I thought you were suffering." Taking a big lump in my throat, I forced out the words through my hoarse throat.
"Why did you run into the forest like that? I was so scared that you were harmed by the wild animals." I expressed my concern when he stiffened. As if not expecting me to say those words. But I was too overwhelmed with the affectionate emotions that I needed to scold him.
"Don't just walk away like that, okay? T-Tell me before you leave... If you're worried, I'm here. I'm here to hear your problems, hm? I will never judge you." I stammered out as the whimpers made me almost suffocate to death to form any coherent words.
The sharp pain in my head made me lose my senses and the black color took all over my eyes.
The last thing I remembered was to feel the other hand wrap around my waist too as I lost sweet consciousness to the man I was thankful for not being eaten by the animals.
