15: Deja Vu
Hot...
Hot breaths...
Deep breaths...
Scattered all over my face...
The smell of strawberries.
Mmm... That sweet smell...
That tender kiss to my neck.
It was... It was everything!
Everything I ever wanted.
And I ever will.
Tick... Tick... Tick...
Huh?
What are these clock sounds?
I opened my eyes and soon closed them due to the adequate amount of light seeping through my eyes, unabling me to adjust to the atmosphere.
Damn, that erotic dream mmm...
With Taehyung... Yeah right! If we say in detail, I was technically making out with a criminal who is all over the news for murdering hundreds of people! How disgusting...
Slowly, I finally opened my eyes, blinking them repetitively.
"Oh goodness..."
Where am I?
Clocks and clocks and clocks! The whole room was filled with clocks! Dark clocks, old and crusty clocks, new clocks, digital clocks, antique clocks... There were all kinds of clocks...
I was sitting on the floor gazing at them with a gaping mouth in disbelief. Wasn't I at home? Sleeping?
Maybe this is a dream.
"Yeah, it's definitely a dream." I smiled with wide eyes, trying to believe all that shit I was cooking up, and laid back down, closing my eyes, attempting to 'wake up'.
Soon there was pin-drop silence and I tried getting back my sleep but flinched.
"Oh no, lady! This ain't a dream!"
My eyes flung open like pancakes hearing a dramatic voice of a young boy.
Looking up at him, I noticed his weird clothing. Clothes too big and the shoes almost falling off his feet. He had this cap that was situated on the side of his head and pointing up, like a peak, just like santa claus's or uhm, like something else... He looked like an elf...
"W-Who are you?" I raised an eyebrow, questioning.
"Me? Oh... I'm the owner of these clocks!" He exclaimed, swirling his hands in a dramatic and dancing way.
"Uh, you sell clocks...?" I asked in bewilderment. Even if he sold clocks, what was I doing in his clock shop?!
Hearing my words, a very disappointing frown took its place on his face and he bit his lips in disapproval.
"No lady! I am the OWNER! The owner of the clocks! And I control the time!" He shouted as if announcing a certainly important thing I needed to know.
Such a crackhead.
What's his na-
"The name's Hoseok."
Huh?
"But how did you know I-"
"Nope, it's nothing-
"No but still! How'd you know I was going to ask?"
"I know everything, lady."
I grumbled at his response. Being the curious one I am, I hate being played with. I try to go to the deepness of a matter to know what it is about and solve it. I really don't like it when I'm stuck in some puzzles...
"Why am I here?" I changed the topic.
Actually, I didn't intend to, but because I had nothing else to say, that's what I came up with.
The guy named 'Hoseok's' face changed its expression and he smiled proudly at me. Snapping his fingers, a shine took its place on his hand and turned into an object like a birch.
"HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!" I gasped, getting up and looking at the thing within his hold. And that's when I realized I was sitting down all this time.
"Calm down m'lady. That's my wand." He shoved it near my face with a pride look.
"Y-Your wand? What are you? A fairy?" I snorted.
He just narrowed his eyes and folded his arms, looking at me with a look of fake anger.
I was kind of enjoying teasing him.
"You should know what YOU are." I scrunched my face in response to his words.
"And, you should certainly know why you're here!" He clapped his hands loudly, and all the clocks started ticking really fast. The room now became a galaxy-colored hue with the white outlines of the clocks. The room was nowhere now... It was like we were standing in the middle of a galaxy.
A shriek escaped my lips in fear, looking down at the endless end. I-I was floating...
"What the hell! Why the fuck am I in the middle of nowhere, gosh!" I whimpered feeling my legs shake.
"Everything has a purpose. And surely, that's how the universe works! For sure, you too have a purpose to serve, which is why you're here." Hoseok sighed, inhaling a deep breath with a pleasant smile stuck onto his face.
"W-What kind of purpose?!"
"A special purpose!"
"What the hell?"
"Just shut up and watch now." He hissed before snapping his fingers once again. Damn, he got some mood swings...
Suddenly, the galaxy view changed... All the atmosphere changed. We were now standing in the middle of an elegant park. There were fountains, trees, antique benches, and beautiful greenery. It was the kind of place I would love to visit...
"W-Where are we?" I inquired, looking around.
"Shut up and observe!" He spoke, practically shoving his wand into my face.
He's aggressive, huh!
I kept standing like an idiot, in the middle without any reason. I was scared that people might now notice us and laugh at us. Firstly, due to the way, we were standing like statues and secondly, for the way he was dressed like an elf...
Soon, many people walked through the park. Some were laughing, some were jogging and some were hearing to the music.
A person walked towards me and just kept looking at me with a blank face while strolling at a constant speed.
"Uhm, sir. Shouldn't you change your direction?" I questioned when he was utterly near to me and to my surprise, he passed through me! Without even bumping...?
"W-What...?"
"This is the past, Miso. We are from the present, so we are non-existent at this place." Hoseok muttered. "We can see everything, but no one can see us." He added.
"Huh? You mean... WE TIME TRAVELLED?" I gasped in shock. How is this possible? Has human even found such a science to be real?
"And for your information, this is my magic, no science baby." He winked with sass at my gaze.
I was about to speak something but before my words could roll down my throat, Hoseok started speaking,
"Here they are. Watch them closely!" He nodded in eagerness, gesturing me to look at the couple before us. Their back was facing us. It was a young girl and a boy holding hands shyly and walking near the fountains. The girl had her hair open and to be honest, they both looked so familiar.
Who are they...?
Soon they stopped infront of an ice cream man and took two cones. That's when the boy's reflection cast over the water and my throat hitched at the view.
T-Taehyung...?
"Taehyung," I gulped, moving backward with a sourness in my larynx. I could not decipher the feeling I was feeling.
He looked so happy yet bubbly. No sign of worry, sadness, or dark circles of tiredness. It was like a mirrored version of the Taehyung I knew. This somehow made me happy. But then, watching him being so smitten towards that girl and acting like a gentleman with her made my heart drop into despair.
"H-How." I retorted at Hoseok. Looking back at him I observed his features. He had this dark yet mysterious aura.
"Keep. Watching." I shivered with the sudden coldness in his voice. It was like his complete demeanor changed... How can humans be so two-faced?
I peered my neck at the two again. This time, Taehyung held the girl's hand and made her sit on one of the benches. Once they settled, he noticed her being uncomfortable due to the shortness of her skirt and sweetly smiled taking off his jacket and putting it onto her lap. Both of them were blushing.
Soon he sat back comfortably and I could now look at the girl's face.
Yet another big shock for me.
"M-Me!" I squeaked in disbelief. How is that even physically possible? I don't even remember this fucking memory!
I glanced at Hoseok only to widen my eyes at the egoistic smirk adorning his lips like a devil. His expression looked like he was chosen for a mission and finally, after accomplishing his mission, he was proud of himself.
Taehyung started speaking with the girl,
"Yah, Heejin, eat slowly or you'll choke, love..." He chuckled.
Heejin...
Wait...
Heejin!
T-That girl...
She looks like me and has the name Heejin...
"You... You never even told me your worries. You promised you will... Now come back and fulfill my wish... I want to hear your worries and help you... Come back Heejin..."
Taehyung's words in his diary...
Is that why he said I look like 'her'?
But seriously, why does she have my face?
"Hoseok! What the hell is this?!" I turned him around with a flinch and gazed deeply into his eyes with my teary orbs. Everything feels so wrong yet so right and puzzling.
"How is that even possible? I didn't even know Taehyung before coming to my new school. Are you trying to lure me into your trap? And how the hell do you even know who I am!" I screamed in frustration. Good that no one could hear us, or else everyone would've thought I was crazy.
He was about to shout back.
"And no, don't tell me to shut up and keep watching. Who are you? And why does this feel so familiar, like a deja vu? Why is this all happening? Urgh!" I cried out in pain. Why is everything getting more and more complicated day by day?
"Well, well, well. Alright. We're done with the flashback, now, let's get back to the present." He closed his eyes, ignoring my words, and transported us back to the present. It was again, the same process of going through the galaxy shit for reaching back into the clock room.
Once I opened my eyes, tears dropped like heavy raindrops. It hurt my heart to look at Taehyung. I kind of missed him. But at the same time, I was confused about what he was up to.
"Don't cry like a kid now," Hoseok announced raspy, sitting back down on the floor.
"Then what do I do?" I hoised my eyebrows, asking the already obvious question to him, to which he grinned with a small laugh. Why?
Is this all fun for him?
"Is my condition entertaining for you?" I asked in an unhopeful voice because I felt too broken already.
"No." He got up. "If I'm laughing, then don't think that it is because of your 'condition'. It's because of this cruel destiny." He spoke nonchalantly, looking at the floor with deep thinking.
"How hard is life... No matter what we do or how hard we work, in the end, sometimes, all we get is a disappointment. People say it's because we didn't struggle enough, but that's not true." He smiled. But the smile certainly was a weird one.
"What-
"Taehyung is not a human." He spewed out of the blue and my body went numb. Not because I believed him but because of his mindset that he thought he could make me dumb and play such an absurd trick on me.
"You really expect me to trust that shit." Balling my fists, I took deep breaths of furiousness. This is so stupid and childish.
"Well, Miso, do not get angry at me. I'm just trying to help you by playing a part in your life as a deity, do not feel enraged by my actions." He spoke, genuinely, with a blank look plastering his face.
That got me taken aback for a moment but I soon recovered from it. I didn't know why, but I felt like trusting him. What he did right now was unbelievable... Taking me to the past. So how can I not believe him?
"T-Then what is he?" I croaked out in a dull tone. You've turned my life upside down Kim Taehyung...
"Well, he was a human before, no doubt of that, until he did a sin, which cursed him." He sighed.
"What sin?" I asked with my shaking voice. Sometimes some things drain me out in just a moment whereas some things take so long to drain the energy. This shows how big that thing would've meant to me, to drain me in just a second...
"He... committed a crime." Hoseok bit his lips, explaining.
The words no more scared me because it was really normal to hear Taehyung committing crimes by now. He was the Joker after all.
"That was the first time he did a crime," Hoseok answered, detailing his expression and going into further details.
"He killed someone. Just like it was written in his diary."
"Who did he kill?" I asked with impatience ringing in my voice. It was hard, but knowing the complete truth was my priority right now.
"That's not the main thing right now. The main thing is, that you need to know who you are."
I raised my eyebrows at his words. What does he mean by this-
"You are Heejin and Heejin is you."
...
What...?
What nonsense.
"What nonsense are you spitting, Hoseok!" I yelled in helplessness.
"That's not nonsense, Miso dear..." He smirked. He wasn't someone to be trusted. His personality kept changing again and again. For one moment, he was the sweetest person and now, he's behaving like a villain.
"Did you think Jisoo told you everything about the past?" He retaliated, making me pause. There's no way...
"Well, right guess for you then. No wonder why you're so worked up and confused. Hah, only if you knew the other side of the coin, you wouldn't be so tired and emotional." His eyes pierced right through my soul, knowing each and every thing about me. Even about Jisoo...
I tried refusing,
"But Jisoo would never keep any secrets from m-
"Remember you were pushed from the rooftop?" I stopped speaking.
"Do you also remember who and why pushed you? And, do you know why you weren't told everything?" Chuckling, he walked towards me.
Holding my chin with his index finger, he looked at my tear-filled face with a fake-guilty look.
"Miso dear, we've got a lot to talk about. Especially, about Taehyung." He half smiled at me and that's when I knew I was about to get to know something that would change my perspective of everyone forever.
