Chapter 23 - The Destination

The track by River Sai was long and far. The journey took us a long time to reach the Cavern of Mercury. We were the last to get there, but as a wolf, we managed to cover more more kilometres than I could have imagined. By the time we reached our destination, the potion had just reached the limit. Slowly, our senses went back to normal, and we lost the endless energy a wolf has to keep running. Fatigue seemed to crash right into us. The painful transformation happened once again once again and we exhaustedly stumbled into the cavern.

"We're . . . finally . . . here . . ." Lark breathed out.

"Yeah . . ." I replied.

We crumpled to the floor, panting. Footsteps rang out from the cavern, and a face peered down at us.

"Guess they finally arrived. Slowpokes."

That was the last thing I heard before I drifted into a deep sleep.

---------------------------------------------

My back hurts.

I blinked my eyes open, and saw layers and layers of dark, polished stone above. Groaning, I sat up and surveyed my surroundings. Darwith was sitting next to me, looking extremely bored. Lark was sleeping on the other side of the cave. A small stream ran throughout the cave, strangely silver. That must be River Sai.

"Oh, you're awake." Darwith said in a bored voice. He stood up, and stretched. "All right. Let's go already."

He walked to the cave entrance and looked expectantly at me. "Well? Are you coming or not?"

I immediately stand up and follow him. "So, what's the plan?"

Darwith shrugged. "Don't know. Make one up as we go along."

I stopped. "What?"

"I said, we will make one up as we go along!" He clarified, looking down on me.

I was horrified. "WHAT?!" I yelled. Grabbing his hands, and pulled him back into the cave. "Listen. Where are the others?" I hissed, furiated.

Darwith struggled in my grip, but in the end he pointed towards the cave depths. "Delilah and Gale are in there, organizing our supplies."

I marched inside, woke Lark up and yelled; "DELILAH! GALE! GET HERE NOW!"

Confused and grumpy, they walked towards me.

"What?" Lark grumbled. "You just woke me up from my SLEEP."

I ignored her. "This guy here," I pointed to Darwith. "Wanted to go into the city WITHOUT A PLAN!"

"So what?" Darwith complained. "It's a plan. We can make one anytime."

"Then we can make one now." I say firmly.
