Chapter 20 - Flight

After resting for awhile, I flipped the rock tile and pulled out a blue packet. It was as large as a book, and had straps like a backpack.

What's inside this. . . ?
The packet was sealed, so my questions were left unanswered. I pulled out four more and handed them out to the others. Gale was pacing about worriedly. He snatched the blue pack off me and stood menacingly before me.

"You're the one who got us in this mess, so you're going have to jump first."

I gulped. Darwith came over with the blue packet already on his back.

"Are you sure you don't want me to go first?" He asked in a mocking tone. I narrowed my eyes.

"No, I'll be fine." I replied coldly.

I slipped on the packet and headed Northwest of the the plateau. The wind howled around me, the fluffy white clouds far below.

It's either now or never.

I turned back once more to see the others looking intensely at me. Stepping over the cliff, I leaped off.

Almost immediately, an updraft propelled me into the air. I flailed in mid air, unsure of what was happening. I could see Lark and the others just staring back at me in utter confusion.

Then, I realized how hot the up draft was.

Staying in the freezing altitude of Sky Dagger's peak, I had grown accustomed to the temperature, so I found the gust as if it was boiling me.

I felt scorched.

The up draft managed to lift me up about a hundred metres, until another blasting gale knocked me off and took me on a journey away from the mountain. I cupped my hands and yelled,

"The wind is really hoott!"
"What?!"

I turned around and the tailwind propelled me into the horizon. After I adapted to the temperature, I found the journey exhilarating and exciting.

Suddenly, behind me, I heard yells of both terror and excitement. I looked back, and face palmed in mid air. Apparently, we encountered some traffic. Delilah, Darwith and Lark were all tumbling in the gust behind me, all shrieking and hollering.

"Get together guys! Even though we're above the clouds, I wouldn't be surprised if anyone below us can hear you!" I shouted over the wind. They noticed and quietened down. Delilah casted a spell to push herself away from the crowd.

Darwith was furious with her for doing that.
"Help us go faster as well!"

Delilah grimaced, but still held out her hands and sang out,
"Dniwliat, leporp sibon suicolev!"

The gust blew harder still, my body powerless against it. However, instead terrified and unadapted, I felt free and giddy. As if my body was designed for this. I let out a laugh.

But all good things must come to an end.
