Chapter 13 - The Legendary Cute Demon Beast

The whole room was bleak and empty. The red tiles on the floor look as if it was new, because not a single footprint were to be seen. From first glance, it was easy to tell that no one had been in here for a long time. The silence also bothered me. Usually, even inside, you can hear the wind, or the rain. In here, you can only hear the sound of your own breathing - as well as the increasing speed of my heartbeat. The heavy metal walls that separated the entrance and the jewel room glistened softly. I signalled to the others. Lark pulled out her arrows. Delilah was ready to cast a spell. I held my sword and some shurikens.

But nothing was there.

Lark gave a grumpy look. 'Where is this demon beast?'

I also looked around, confused as well. Delilah patted her hands reassuringly on our shoulders. She held out her hands.

"Ibu aspi acimini?"

It was an enemy searching spell. It would radiate a red light in the enemies direction. I looked around. There was no red light to be seen. Then, Lark alarmingly cried out;

"Look out! It's above us!"

Then, everything seem to speed up.

As soon as Lark cried out, an object dropped down onto Delilah. Lark prepared to fire. I charged at the unknown foe and swung my sword.

Except...We didn't hit the target.

Delilah didn't either.

The enemy that dropped down on her shoulder was not big. Not sneaky looking. Not ugly. But cute.It was a fluffy, pure white rabbit.

Delilah stared in shock. I quickly recovered, carefully aimed for the rabbit and flung my shuriken. However, the shuriken didn't hit it's target, because Delilah gently picked up the small rabbit with her hands.

"Aren't you just simply adorable?"

Me and Lark practical dropped our weapons in annoyance. Lark rushed to Delilah and shook her with all her might.

"Delilah! Are you stupid!? That's the demon that killed hundreds of people!" Delilah didn't respond.  She continued looking at the red eyed rabbit. Then, her arms dropped the rabbit back onto the ground. Lark stumbled back, her hands fumbling to reload her bow. Delilah gave a weak smile of delight, and dropped to the ground. Her eyes were frozen in terror.

"I should have noticed..." She croaked out. The rabbit hopped away from turned towards us. He seemed to grin evilly at us. We raised our weapons. Except, the rabbit got the better of us. As soon as I threw my second shuriken, the rabbit darted away with such a speed, I could not follow it with my own eyes. A white blur was what I could see, and it was rapidly coming my way. Before I could even dodge, the rabbit bit me by the leg. Pain flooded my leg, purple blood trickled down my socks.

Purple....the rabbit, it's jaws are filled with poison!

Black hatred clouded my vision.

The shuriken, throw the shuriken!

Fumbling, I scanned my surroundings for the rabbit's movement.

A white blur danced around me.

It's too fast!

I slashed my sword to my right, causing the white blur to escape to the left. Maneuvering my sword, I gave a quick stab to my left and threw one of my shurikens to my right. As I predicted, the white blur was in the target zone of the shuriken. However, it missed.

Shoot! This poison is really getting to me!
