Chapter 12 - The Making of the Jewel Tunnel

"How did you find us?"

Delilah simply smiled. "I was watching you two from my crystal ball. I'm surprised you didn't notice."

I was completely shocked. I spent ages trying to train myself to notice when someone was watching me from a crystal ball!
"....For how long?"
"Awhile. Long enough to know we only have eighteen minutes left."

That jolted me back. I regained my senses.
"I don't care whether you're going to join us or not. Just enchant this shade." I pleaded urgently.
"Of course."

With her palm casted out in front of her, she enchanted the weapons.

All the weapons around me shimmered.
Lark looked excited. She picked a spade and started digging alongside me. Spurts of mud spattered over our legs. Delilah looked in disapproval, but in the end, she casted a quick spell and joined in with us.

We made good progress. I used the drilling potion and continued hacking at the hard rock. Lark helped me, and sometimes Delilah would enchant an arrow that Lark would use to blast rocks away. Delilah, well, she made sure that the tunnel was stable. In five minutes, lanterns flickered in the muddy cavern. The continuous clangs became a rhythm.

Suddenly, my pickaxe rebounded, injuring me in the process.

Delilah turned at me. I place my hand on the rock before me. I flinched back. It was as if lightning had struck me.

I turned around, confused. Lark placed her hand on the rock as well. She gave a hurt expression as she winched. "What is this?" she asked, rubbing her fingers. Delilah frowned and raised her hand.

After awhile, she faced us.
"It's a force field."
"Why would there be a force field in the middle of the ground?" Lark asked.

Delilah thought for a second, then extended her fingers.
"Etaligiv sirtsa, oticid ihim ibu mus ni Cogenth!" she cried, and a 3D Cogenth map hologram appeared. A red dot was showing our position. We were directly below the entrance to the jewel room.

"So...you're saying that we can't dig directly into the jewel room?"
Delilah nodded grimly.

Great, that's my plan ruined.
"Is there any guards up in the room above us?" I asked.
If there isn't, then we still got a chance of stealing the jewel while it rains.
Delilah closed her eyes, and replied; "No."

Lark gave a sigh of relief. I tapped my pickaxe on the roof, which was a bad idea, since the roof crumbled away, showering me with rocks. It would be dangerous to directly build a tunnel above us.
"Do you want me to teleport us up there?" Delilah asked, pity in her eyes.

Lark and I stared at her in shock. "You can teleport?!" we both yelled. Delilah cringed.
"Y-yeah, I can. Do you want me to?". I thought for awhile.

"Maybe not. There's probably magic detectors."

"Oh, okay."
I was going to hit the roof once more, but Lark stopped me. "Before we get up there, we need to be prepared for that demon beast.".

Delilah laughed.
"That demon beast will be easy to defeat. No sweat."

I gave her a disapproving look. "Do you know why no one has stolen the jewels yet?" I growled.
Delilah was surprised.
"No."
"It's because no one can defeat that demon beast.".

Delilah gulped.
"Oh.". Lark took out some potions. I hammered the roof down, and we climbed out of the tunnel and into the jewel room entrance.
