Chapter 11 - Don't Stop Digging
'Twenty minutes left?! How come?'
'I was groaning about how my trip here was delayed by the rain, and someone heard me, and they told me from the time humanity came to live in Cogenth, it never rained twice a month, nor over half an hour.'
'Then we better start digging the tunnel.'
'You're still serious about doing that?!'
'Yes I am.'
'...I guess we better get started then.'
'So you do agree with me! How wonderful. Do you have any contact with Delilah?'
'...Delilah? The enchantress?'
She gave me a scornful look.
'Do you really think that just because we're both females would mean that we are friends?'
'Why yes. You did team up with her.'
Delilah was the last person who went on this mission with us. She was the best enchantress in the whole rogue city. Lark went pink.
'Fine. I admit that we teamed up, but we...'
Lark looked uncomfortable. 'We had an argument.'
'Oh.'
Women really are strange, I can't but help think.
"We should really get going. We've been resting long enough."
I said back in English. I stood up (I managed to finish my sandwich) and started walking in the direction where I thought the abandoned building was. Lark followed. There was no one else on the street walking with us.
As we walked past shops and restaurants, faces looked at us in admiration and also, as if we were mad. Cogenth members must really hate the rain, I thought. Then again, wearing wet cloths was uncomfortable. I took off in a run.
Then, just around the corner, a crumbled, burn down house appeared in the mist.
"Is this where we dig?"
"Yes."
I peered through the broken archway. Lark trembled slightly, but she followed. I turned to the right, and a steel encased room appeared. Bricks covered the floor in a jumbled mess. Reaching for my bag, I pulled out some items; some pickaxes, some spades, a drilling potion and lanterns. I handed Lark a pickax and a spade.
Clearing a small space from bricks, a small patch of dirt lay before me. I picked up the heavy metal spade, swung it up and prepared to strike.

"You know you're not going to dig far without any enchantments on the spade."
The shade hung centimeters above the ground. My arms tinged madly from the sudden stop. Someone had used magic to stop the shade from hitting the ground. That voice...it isn't Lark's...
I spun around and pointed my fingers at the source of the voice. Hidden under my watch was a paralysis spray gun, so I was about to fire as soon as I faced the opponent. However, I trained my reaction time, so I didn't fire the spray gun.
Facing me was a tall, attractive young woman with bouncing blonde curls. It was Delilah. The enchantress who was sent on the same mission that I had.
