XI

The company continued to fall down a chute, slide through a variety of tunnels before collapsing in a heap. Em grunted when she landed and groaned to have Crowen fall on top of her, as she pushed him off. Dastan grunted as others fell on top of him before rolling his eyes to see Edvard on top of the heap.

"Everyone alright?" Dastan asked as they all groaned out in response. One by one they helped each other back up to their feet before gazing around the dark tunnels wondering where they were.

"Where are we?" Gwaine questioned as they found a few torches by their feet. Em was quick to set them alight to give them some light.

"Well, for one thing, we don't have to worry about the Ttarmek anymore" She informed them which made them all blow out a breath of relief. She walked forward slightly having her feet connect to a human skull. Recoiling she slowly bent down to study the arrow before rubbing her forehead.

"And the second thing?" Edvard asked as she sighed before turning back to the group.

"We have to worry about goblins instead" Em informed.

"Goblins!" They all hissed aloud. None paid much attention to her or the light growing brighter from one end of the tunnel.

"Quiet and hold your breath!" Em hissed as they pressed themselves against the walls. Half a dozen goblins waddled by each holding a torch, grunting at each other. They were only four feet tall and had green oily skin with sharp, elongated ears twitching on the top of their heads. Their eyelids were glued shut as the group all sucked in quick breaths when they had left.

"They didn't see us?" Dastan frowned whilst Em merely shook her head.

"Goblins cannot see or smell. They rely on their hearing" She told them which began to make sense in his mind. No wonder she had asked them to hold their breaths. They would have heard them breathing.

"This place is a maze, how are we supposed to find our way out?" One of the soldiers questioned as they saw many different tunnels ahead of them. They knew not to go down the far right as that was where the small group had headed. Biting her lip and trying to figure out the best way to get out of here alive Em noticed a brighter light forming from behind them.

"For start going in the opposite direction of creatures who want to kill us. RUN!" She instructed as they quickly bolted to the left. The tunnel they chose dipped downwards which worked in their favour. The goblins behind them squealed loudly at the sound of intruders. They took a few wrong turns and found themselves having to cut down the goblins around them. It seemed that no matter how many they had slain more appeared from behind.

The group continue running through the maze-like paths; before they get on a section of the path suspended by ropes from above. It wobbled beneath them slightly not used to the weight. Em was quick to slice some ropes causing the pathway to swings away from the rest of the path, approaching a different path.

"Jump!"

Several of the men managed to jump to the other path; however, before the rest could, the suspended path swings back like a pendulum to where it started, and several goblins leap on. Dastan blocked a sword that would have killed Gwaine in the back. As the path swings back again, the rest of the men manage to jump safely just before the final ropes snapped.

"Dastan! This way!" A whisper called causing Dastan's head snap towards a path to the right. Not even thinking he chased the voice calling his name. It was leading him upwards as Em was quick to catch him.

"Dastan, where are you going!" She screamed at him dragging him out of his daze.

"Fool! Do you wish to be killed?" She snapped as he shook his head.

"But there is something up there!" He stuttered pointing in the direction he was going. As he glanced up he saw bright firelight and screeching goblins sprint towards them. He stumbled back slightly and allowed Em to grab hold of his arm and drag him away.

"Yes! Goblins who wish to kill us, now run!" She instructed. He did as he was told. They soon rejoined the group running through the labyrinth hoping to find the one that would get them out of there. They soon came to a junction of three possible routes. Two seemed to have natural sunlight beaming through. The other was pure darkness.

"Where do we go now?" Gwaine questioned Dastan looking to him for guidance.

"Dastan?" Edvard asked feeling uneasy as he panted. He wasn't used to all this running, it didn't do him good in his old age.

"I don't know" Dastan honestly growled, hating the sudden pressure placed on his shoulders.

"What do you mean you don't know? Didn't that map say where to go?" Gwaine shouted angrily ready to murder Dastan.

"No, it didn't!" He shouted back in annoyance. Em was quick to think, she went to step towards one of the lighter tunnels. However knowing that looks could be deceptive she fast walked towards the dark tunnel.

"This way!" She called causing them all to fall silent and gaze upon her.

"Are you sure?" Gwaine asked.

"No, but you have to trust me!" She spoke slowly through gritted teeth. He glared at her, Gwaine certainly didn't trust her. Not with his life!

"Trust you! That could lead us back to the goblins! You want us to trust you with our lives, just because you think it's that way?" He shouted. His loud voice echoing causing the goblins to screech with joy. They now knew where they had disappeared too.

"Stay here if you wish Sir Gwaine! But I'm going this way" She retorted before running down with the light of the fire to guide her.

"Em! Come back!" Dastan called, quick to follow after her.

"The map said 'Look for the tunnel robbed of light' Right? Well, this has to be it!" She told him. Part of her hoped that she was right. It had to be, it seemed so familiar in a way. The continued downwards, turning around the corner before coming face to face with a wall of stone.

"It's a dead end?" Dastan whispered horrified.

"No, no! This isn't right!" Em muttered running her hands over the smooth rock. This couldn't be right!

"I knew it! You have lead us all to our deaths!" Gwaine shouted at her causing her to turn and glare.

"That's not helping!" She growled. The screeched of their enemy were beginning to get louder as she started to run her hands over the stone frantically.

"What are you doing?" Dastan asked holding the light out for her.

"I'm planning on digging my way out! What does it look like I am doing? I am trying to find the doorway to get us out of here!" Em sarcastically glared. He snorted at her attitude constantly looking over his shoulder at the soft light which began to grow bigger.

"Well you better hurry, those creatures will find us soon" Gwaine informed as the men created two lines of defence. The screeches were growing louder and they knew they were running out time.

"They're getting closer!" Gwaine shouted making Em roll her eyes.

"Shouting at me Sir Gwaine isn't helping!" She informed.

"What does it look like?" Dastan questioned in hope to find it. However, a bright smile flooded her face.

"Found it!" She beamed! They all turned to look at her in surprise. Moulded into the rock was a hand print with runes above it. Slipping her hand over the mould, it fitted perfectly. A harsh wind suddenly blew, almost knocking them to their feet. Their cloaks all flapped as her hand glowed an emerald green before their vision was blinded by a piercing white light.
