Chapter 22: What Should We Do Next?
I was only in the hospital about three days before they sent me home with pain meds, more wound care instructions, and a note for at least three weeks off. The doctor said it might be longer; he'd write another note if I needed it later.
I was really happy I'd taken the time to put away all the Jester stuff because Danny and Trish came inside with me. It was strange havin' people in the house. Trish cooked and said she'd be back the next day with prepped meals for me.
"You don't have to do that, Trish. I can manage," I said.
"I know I don't have to, Terry, but this is what we do for friends. Besides, truth be told, it's our cook that will be doing the prepping, not me," she explained. Leave it to her to not only have someone else do it, but to be honest about it. She was a character and a half.
I laughed, "Okay, I'll accept. It's bound to be better than cereal and pizza, which is probably what I'd feel like eatin' if I'm goin' to be this tired all the time." I was feelin' exhausted, just from the ride home and eatin' dinner.
"Okay, well, why don't you head to bed and we'll clear out? I'll come around about noon tomorrow, if that sounds okay?" Trish asked.
"Yeah, I think that's great. Not like I'm goin' to be goin' much of anywhere," I answered, steppin' into the friendly hug she offered.
Danny and I did the bro hug thing, "Take care and, if you need anything, just call, okay?" he said.
"Yep. Will do."
They left and I climbed the stairs. I was lookin' forward to my own bed. I don't even remember my head hittin' the pillow.
I woke up on the couch. That's when I knew I was glad that the Jester wasn't gone. I shuffled into the workroom, knowin' that he'd not been able to do much what with the drugs and tiredness. Given those two things, I was curious as to what, exactly, he did do.
The place was neat and tidy. He'd cleaned up the table where we worked and there, I saw a note.
I laughed when I read it.
"So, what should we do next?"
