Zoya was a mess. It was pouring rain outside. Mumbai is a place where weather can never be predicted. It can rain any moment, and right now, it poured...soaking Zoya to her bones. But the storm outside was nothing compared to the turmoil inside Zoya's heart at the moment. Despite her rejection to marry Arshad, her father invited Arshad and his family for dinner tonight. Zoya was blind sighted because Waseem did not inform Zoya that Arshad and his family were coming over for dinner. In some twisted way, her father thought that Zoya will change her mind after meeting Arshad.
Arshad was a good man. He truly was. But Zoya could never love him. Five minutes into the dinner Zoya new that she could never love him. Somehow, Zoya survived dinner and towards the end, she politely refused the marriage proposal again.
Her father was furious with her. He kept bringing up how royally messed up her first marriage was and kept saying how she now needed to abide by his choice. That Zoya can never make her own decisions.
Zoya felt suffocated. How long until people stopped throwing her failed marriage on her face? The old Zoya would stay quiet. She wouldn't say a word...not fight back...and simply follow her father's orders. But losing Yash has made her into a strong woman. Meeting Aditya had made her into a strong woman. She wasn't one to stay quiet any longer. Zoya looked at her father dead in the eye and said, "Hum Arshad se nikka nahin karenge." And with that said, she walked out of the house.
This is why she was out in this rain in the middle of the night right now. When she left her house, she had no idea what her destination was, only that she needed to get out. Soaked to her skin, Zoya didn't realize her destination until she stood in front of it...Hooda mansion. It's as if subconsciously, her heart brought her here because her mind was lost.
Zoya hesitated, however. It was almost 2am in the morning and Zoya hasn't spoken a word to Aditya since his confession. That was 1 week ago. He said he loved her. Loved her.
She considered Aditya Hooda as her best friend. Despite all the pain...all the heartache...the fighting...he somehow became the person she relied on most. He was just a friend right? Zoya washed her hands from love and marriage after Yash's betrayal. She did not want to experience that kind of pain ever again.
But then why...when Aditya confessed...Zoya didn't think twice about rejecting Arshad's proposal? What was it about Aditya? The way he looked at her...with those intense eyes...Zoya felt herself get drawn to him. And that is why she ran. She turned around and ran and hasn't spoken to Aditya since.
But tonight, she stood in front of Hooda mansion because she didn't know where else to go. She felt terrible for fighting with her father, but she couldn't marry Arshad. And she just needed her best friend right now...to tell her that everything will be ok. The fact that her heart thumped hard inside her chest was something Zoya tried to ignore. She was only here because she needed a friend. That was it.
With that reasoning in mind, Zoya walked to the side of the mansion. It wouldn't be right to enter through the main door at this hour. Anjana aunty already despised her and Zoya didn't want to give her more reason. Zoya followed the path that Aditya showed her in the past. This pathway lead straight to a balcony connected to Aditya's room. He told her once that she was always welcome to use the side entrance if she didn't want to enter through the main gates. Zoya never felt the need to use this until tonight. Entering the balcony, Zoya knocked on the glass door.

Dressed in casual pants and an unbuttoned shirt, Aditya sat on his bed trying to concentrate on the book on his lap. He was reading the same line for the past 5 minutes. Every time he tried to distract his mind, he went back to the day he confessed his feelings to Zoya. That was not how it was supposed to happen. He never thought that he would blurt everything out in anger. Man...he really needed to learn how to control his temper. He confessed everything...like...everything to Zoya and now she was avoiding him.
Cursing himself and frustrated at the whole situation, Aditya tossed the book to the side and leaned his head back on the head board, closing his eyes. He couldn't get Zoya's shocked face out of his mind. When Zoya rejected Arshad's proposal over the phone, Aditya thought that maybe...maybe...Zoya reciprocated his feelings. But all that went to hell when Zoya turned on her heels and ran out of his bedroom. He has been restless ever since. He didn't want to lose Zoya, but she hasn't returned his calls nor replied to his messages.
The knock on his balcony door jerked Aditya out of this thoughts. When his eyes looked past the heavy rain and fell on a slim form, his eyes popped wide open at seeing a soaking Zoya on the other side.
Aditya rushed to the balcony and opened the door. "Zoya! Pagal ho kya!? Iss barish mein tum bahaar kya kar rahi ho!?" Aditya scolded and brought Zoya into his bedroom, closing the balcony door, blocking out the storm raging outside.
Zoya stayed quiet and shivered. Aditya scowled and got a towel, giving it to Zoya. Zoya gave a weak smile and took the towel. "Shukriya..." Zoya softly murmured and dried her hair.
It was that moment that Aditya really saw Zoya. She was wearing a salwar kameez that left most of her midriff bare, and rest of the cloth clung to her every curve due to being wet. Her hair was a mass of curls that cascaded around her and her skin looked like it was glowing due to being wet. Aditya gulped as desire punched him in the gut. 'Can this woman be any more beautiful?' was Aditya's only thought.
Zoya knew that Aditya was staring at her and felt herself blushing as she concentrated on drying her hair. She avoided making eye contact with him. This was weird. Aditya was her best friend. She never felt this nervousness around him before. Why was she feeling it now? There was nothing platonic about Aditya's gaze at the moment...and it made her nervous.
When Zoya sneezed, Aditya cursed again. "You will catch a cold in those clothes." Aditya walked to his closet and pulled out a kurta of his. "Here" Aditya said handing Zoya the kurta.
"I can't wear that Aditya." Zoya looked at the cotton kurta and then at Aditya.
"Don't argue Zoya. You'll catch a cold. Just wear this and in the meantime I'll give your clothes to Marcus to put in the dryer."
When Zoya tried to argue again, Aditya gave her a stern look and shoved the kurta on Zoya's hand. Knowing it was pointless to argue, Zoya went into the bathroom to change.
A few minutes later, Zoya came out of the bathroom in Aditya's kurta. It was loose on her and came to her knees, but what got Aditya's attention was the slits on the sides...giving him a peak at Zoya's exposed thighs.
Zoya pulled the kurta down, a little embarrassed at the lack of clothes. Sensing Zoya's discomfort, Aditya diverted his eyes. He simply took the west clothes Zoya was holding and walked out of his bedroom.
Zoya let out a nervous breath. She shouldn't have come here. In her aggravated state she couldn't think of anywhere else to go but to her best friend's doorstep. But now that she was here...she was nervous. Their dynamic changed. The air between them changed.
Things were different between them. She now felt his gaze. She sensed his emotions. And it made her nervous. What was this feeling she was feeling inside herself? Every time Aditya's gaze fell on her...it felt her skin light on fire.
In that moment, Aditya came back into the room and closed his bedroom door. Aditya looked at Zoya from head to toe again, and that caused Zoya to blush. The kurta covered most of her body, but then why did it feel like she wasn't wearing anything when Aditya looked at her like that? She should feel offended...but she didn't. Aditya's gaze was anything but platonic...and she was not offended one bit. In fact, she felt her blood turn hot with just his gaze and this feeling took her breath away.
Aditya walked further into the room and didn't stop until he stood in front of Zoya. "What happened Zoya?", concern clearly evident in his voice as he asked the obvious.
Zoya sighed, her fight with her father still fresh in her mind leaving her upset. "I got into a huge fight with my father. We said some things...I stormed out...and just needed to talk to a friend." Zoya replied honestly, leaving out a few details.
"What was the fight about?" Aditya asked, keeping his gaze steady on her.
After a little pause, Zoya answered, "Abbu is just being stubborn..." Zoya answered vaguely. Aditya narrowed his eyes, giving Zoya a 'you are not telling me everything' look.
Zoya fidgeted with the long sleeves of the kurta, avoiding eye contact. "Zoya..." Aditya simply said in his deep voice.
Zoya looked up at him and sighed, defeated. "Abbu invited Arshad and his family over for dinner without notifying me. He still thought that I would agree to the marriage. When I refused Arshad again...Abbu didn't like my decision and we had a fight." Zoya replied honestly.
Aditya listened intently. He studied Zoya's face...there was something there. Over this last year...amongst the heart break...the quarrels...the anger...Aditya learned to read Zoya...and he learn to hear her heartbeat...even when she didn't hear it sometimes.
"Why did you reject Arshad?" Aditya simply asked.
"Because I can't love him." Zoya replied truthfully.
Aditya took a step closer, his gaze darkening, "Then who can you love?" he asked bluntly.
Zoya looked up startled at the question. She stuttered a little "N..no..no one..." Zoya finally said, her voice small...she wasn't even sure she convinced herself of that response let alone Aditya.
"Really..." Aditya murmured and then took another step towards Zoya, "then why are you here?" he asked, his voice husky...his tone low...seductive almost.
Zoya let out a shaky breath, her heartbeat scrambling in her chest due to Aditya's slow approach...his slow prowl...like he was a predator hunting his prey.
"I told you..." Zoya breathed out, "I needed a friend." The side of Aditya's lip went up in a sly smile. "Jhoot." He simply said.
Zoya gasped, "Hum jhoot nahin bhol rahe hai!" Zoya huffed out, masking her quivering heart with anger.
As Zoya turned to walk away, Aditya grabbed her wrist and pulled Zoya back, colliding the front of her body to his. Zoya took a sharp intake of breath as her front meshed with Aditya's bare chest, she looked up to find his eyes angry.
"Aditya yeh aap kya kar rahe hai!?" Zoya gasped and struggled to get lose. That only caused her body to rub against Aditya and made it more aware of their very close proximity.
His own temper rising due to Zoya's denial, Aditya grabbed Zoya's other wrist and put both her arms behind her, causing the front of Zoya's body to completely merge with him. Zoya continued to struggle, "Yeh kya batameezi hai!?" Zoya cried, trying to free her hands from Aditya's grip. She tried to ignore the feel of Aditya's hard chest pressed against her bossom.
Aditya twisted Zoya's hands further and tightened his hold on her. This caused Zoya to go up a little on her tippy toes, her body completely pressed to Aditya and her face extremely close to his face. Zoya had to title her head back a little to avoid kissing Aditya, that's how close their faces where at the moment. She felt her heart pound. It was pounding so fast that she was sure Aditya felt it too.
"Chup." Aditya whispered, his own temper high, his eyes baring his soul. "Ek dum chup." That caused Zoya to stopped struggling and she felt herself sinking into his hazel eyes.
Aditya kept his hold on Zoya as he gazed into her green orbs, the intensity of his love shining in his eyes. "Tum kab tak apne aap se jooth bolti raho gi? Huh?" He said and twisted Zoya's hand little, pushing her face closer to him. Zoya simply let out a shaky breath, his close proximity stealing her breath away.
"Haan...yeh sach ke tum Arshad se kabhi pyaar nahin karo gi...lekin yeh bhi sach hai tumne usse meri vaja se tukhrayaan." Aditya whispered. When Zoya twisted her arms in an attempt to pull away, Aditya tightened his grip around her wrist and lifted her higher. Zoya took a sharp intake of breath, their lips so close to each other.
"Tum jaanti ho ke mein tumse kitna pyaar karta hoon...tum yeh bhi jaanti ho ke mujhse zyaada pyaar tumhe aur koi kar bhi nahin sakta...lekin tum apne aap ko kyon rokh rahi ho? Tum jaanti ho ke hum sirf dost nahin hai...toh apne aap se kyon jhoot bol rahi ho? Sach sach jawab doh Zoya...tum yahaan kyon aayi ho?" He whispered, his voice dangerously low...his words almost caressing her.
Zoya gazed into the intensity of his eyes and could clearly see the love in them. And when she felt her own heart respond, Zoya's eyes filled with tears. The pain of her previous relationship gripped at Zoya's throat and her lips quivered. "Aditya...please...humhe chor dijiye" Zoya pleaded softly.
It was then that Aditya saw the fear in her eyes. She was scared to love again. Their last relationships were such disasters that Zoya was too scared to open herself to love again. Feeling her pain, Aditya loosened his grip until he finally let her go. His heart ached at seeing unshed tears glistening in Zoya's eyes.
Zoya stepped away from Aditya and turned around. She was now in front of the mirror in his room, with her back to Aditya. Zoya placed a hand over her mouth and tried to get a grip on her emotions. Aditya stood behind her, seeing the struggle Zoya was going through. Her face was clear to him in the mirror. His temper diffused instantly, seeing her like this...and all he wanted to do was take her fear away...take her pain away.
After a few seconds, Zoya looked into the mirror and her eyes locked with Aditya's through it. He looked just as miserable as her. It was like the air around them was fighting to bring them together.
Aditya felt guilt for pushing Zoya. He never wants to be the reason for her tears. Forcing her was not the right approach. He needed to gain her trust. He already had her trust as a friend. He now needed to gain it as her partner.
"Zoya...tum jaanti ho mujhe. Mein kabhi dokha nahin dunga..." Aditya said in a low, soothing voice.
Zoya gazed at Aditya through the mirror, knowing in her heart that he was speaking the truth. But she stayed quiet. Her inner battle not letting her respond.
However, when Aditya stepped closer to Zoya and he placed his hands on her arms, she didn't pull away. Aditya never broke eye contact with Zoya in the mirror. He lifted his hand and moved her wet hair over one shoulder...exposing her slim neck to him.
"Bharosa hai mujh par?" he whispered. Zoya hesitated, but when her eyes connected with Aditya's in the mirror, she knew he was the person she trusted most in her life now. Seeing his calm gaze, she felt herself fall for him. Losing her inner battle, Zoya nodded in response.
Getting the permission he needed, Aditya lowered his head and placed a soft kiss on Zoya's shoulder. Zoya gripped the front of the kurta she was wearing in response. When Aditya gazed at Zoya to see her reaction, he was happy to see that she didn't pull away...nor she looked terrified. Her eyes were clouded...her breathing a little heavy. It was clear to see that Zoya felt the fire that was burning between them.
Aditya placed another kiss...this time on the spot where her neck and shoulder met. Zoya's mouth parted slightly in response. The feeling of his lips on her skin awakening feelings inside her she buried long ago. He kissed her neck again...this time his tongue trailing her skin, leaving a trail of hot fire behind. Zoya let out a shaky breath, her head fell back and she closed her eyes at the sensation.
This time when Aditya kissed her neck, he placed one hand on Zoya's belly and pulled her to him so her back was pressed to his chest. Aditya's other hand encircled around Zoya's neck and he pressed another open mouth kiss on her.
Zoya couldn't breathe. She was completely lost in Aditya. What she did next surprised both of them. Zoya reached back and placed her hand behind Aditya's neck, urging him on as he gave her neck another open mouthed kiss. Her fingers dove into his thick hair when he sucked on a sensitive spot. Zoya bit down on her bottom lip to keep herself from moaning out loud.
Aditya gently turned Zoya around so they were face to face. He cupped her face, tilting her face up. Zoya wrapped her fingers around Aditya's wrists. Her heart pounded in her chest. If he kissed her in that moment...she wouldn't stop him. If he took her to his bed in that moment...she wouldn't stop him. The relinquish of control terrified her. But she gazed into his patient eyes...and she felt herself trusting again...falling again...
Aditya gazed into Zoya's trusting eyes. He saw the doubts...but he also saw the blinding trust. She trusted him. If he wanted...he could take her to bed tonight and she wouldn't stop him. Aditya looked at her luscious lips and rubbed his thumb over her bottom lip...contemplating how they would feel under his lips.
Zoya let out a shaky breath...simply waiting. Aditya looked into Zoya's eyes...they were so innocent...so beautiful. He couldn't do that to her tonight. It wasn't the right time. If he kissed her tonight...if he made love to her tonight...Zoya might regret it tomorrow. He wanted to do this when he was sure Zoya was ready.
With all his will power...Aditya let go of Zoya and stepped back. Zoya frowned, the confusion evidence on her face. Aditya gave her a sweet smile, "Your clothes must be dry...let me go get them." With a warm smile, Aditya left the bedroom with Zoya watching his retreating back. She placed a hand over her beating heart when Aditya closed the bedroom door behind him.
After she changed back into her cloths, Aditya drove her home. The car ride was quiet. Both thinking about what took place between them. When Aditya pulled up in front of Zoya's apartment building, Aditya finally turned to Zoya.
"Apne abbu se tande dimag se baat karna...woh sirf tumhe kush dekhna chate hai...usse pyaar se samjana." Aditya advised. Zoya remained quiet and simply stared at Aditya. Not knowing what to say, Zoya turned to get out of the car.
Aditya stopped her, however. He gently took her hand in his, causing Zoya to sit back and stare at Aditya again. "Kal kya kar rahi ho?" Aditya asked casually, his thumb caressing the back of Zoya's hand.
That gesture sent shivers up Zoya's arm, the touch so intimate. "Kuch khaas nahin..." Zoya replied, trying hard to keep her voice steady.
"Mere saath ghumne chalo gi?" Aditya asked.
Zoya paused...contemplating if that was a good idea. The walls she built around her heart were tumbling. Would it be a good idea to spend more time with Aditya? The one person who was capable of breaking her heart?
When she looked at Aditya...and saw his hopeful yet patient gaze...Zoya felt a few more barriers come down.
"Haan." Zoya replied. Aditya gave Zoya a brilliant smile and lifted their joint hands, placing a soft kiss on the back of her hand. Zoya couldn't help but give a small smile in return. She then exited the vehicle and walked inside the apartment building.
Aditya watched her retreating back and felt his heart soar. It wasn't a confession...but it was a start. Zoya agreed to let Aditya court her...and that was the next best thing to her confession. She'll confess one day...but until then...this was all he needed.
As Aditya drove away...he missed the peaceful look on Zoya's face...and her smile that was now twice as big and reaching her eyes.
