Naihal brought out the tray of finger foods and placed in on the food table. Her and Anirudh's Christmas party was in full swing tonight. It was 11:00pm on Christmas Eve to be specific, and they were planning on bringing Christmas day with full swing into their home. Friends and family were scattered around their living room, doing various things. Some were dancing, some were chit chatting, and some simply sat enjoying their drinks.
The place was decorated from head to toe. A beautiful Christmas tree stood by the balcony, the star shining bright on the top as the ribbons cascaded down around the ornaments. Garlands decorated with lights and ornaments accented the walls as well. Naihal had a little village set up in the corner resting on cotton, making it look like it the village was covered in snow. Kenny G's saxophone was oozing the instrumental of 'Have yourself a merry little Christmas' from their music system. The lights were dimmed, making the room look like it was glowing. And if you listened carefully...you could hear church bells ringing in the distance. It felt like...well... Christmas magic, Naihal thought proudly and patted herself on the back for a job well done.
Naihal scanned the room to make sure everyone was taken care of. Her eyes fell on a fellow friend who was almost done with his drink. "Shehban! Here let me refill your drink!" Naihal said. Not waiting for a response, she took his empty glass and refilled it with his usual vodka and cranberry juice.
Shahban gave Naihal a loud kiss on her cheek as she came back with his drink. "You're a darling Naihal. This party is rocking." Shehban said, his way of thanking Naihal.
Naihal did a little bow and giggled. She then turned to one of her closest friends standing next to Shehban, Ms. Jennifer Winget. Jennifer was clearly enjoying herself too. This group of friends tends to hang out with each other often and Jennifer was very comfortable in this setting. Naihal did notice a little change in Jennifer's behavior, however. There were little glances here and there that Jennifer casted to the other side of the room. They were subtle glances, but nothing passed Naihal's eagle eyes...and she had an idea of who Jennifer was stealing glances at.
Naihal casually looked over her shoulder and her eyes fell on Mr. Harshad Chopda, the newest addition to the gang. Harhsad was leaning on the balcony railing having a deep conversation with Anirudh, completely oblivious to Jennifer's secret looks. Naihal turned back and bit the inside of her cheek to keep from grinning.
Jennifer stole another glance at Harshad, and then turned her attention back to what Shehban was saying. It was no secret that Harshad and she knew each other for years, but recently became a lot closer since Bepannaah's shooting started. Before, it was a strictly professional relationship. Jennifer learned the hard way to never mix business with pleasure. Which is why she was always kept her distance from her co-actors.
But over time...she wasn't sure when that changed with Harshad. Maybe it was when they did a scene where Zoya trips and Aditya catches her. Jennifer had to completely trust Harshad to not drop her since she was not able to balance herself. Or maybe it was when Harshad memorized her lines when she was having a bad day. That one took her by surprise. It was the first time she truly understood what a caring person Harshad was. Maybe it was when Harshad called her 'God's zariya'? Or was it when he openly told her that he wished she was there at ITA seeing him receive the award?
He went from being her co-star, to someone she admired, to a good friend, to someone she shared a comfortable relationship with...and then to something much deeper. That feeling made her nervous. The one where she knew that this was turning into something deeper. But she was a professional...and she no longer mixes business with pleasure. Keeping that in mind, Jennifer looked away from Harshad and continued her conversation with Shehban.
Harshad nodded to something Anirudh said. "Maybe Aditya can do this scene with a little more anger? What do you think?" Harshad replied, and intently listened as Anirudh described what he wanted from it.
Harshad took a sip of his whiskey and happened to glance inside the living room. His eyes instantly fell on Jennifer who was laughing at something Naihal said. He took a sharp intake of breath...she was so beautiful. He always found Jennifer attractive, but it was only recently he realized how attracted he was to her. She was always this ball of energy and the warmest person on set. The media always portrayed her as someone of grace and poise. But he got to know that Jennifer was one of the strongest and most positive people around. It wasn't easy going through such a public divorce, and Jennifer came out of that beautifully...like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
But they only shared a comfortable working relationship with each other. He knew that Jennifer was a thorough professional and his attraction is one sided. Keeping that in mind, Harshad turned his attention back to Anirudh.
'Was nobody else seeing the sparks fly but her?' Naihal thought. Here Jennifer was stealing glances at Harshad, and when Jennifer wasn't looking, Harshad was stealing glances at Jennifer. Naihal looked at the two of them and rolled her eyes. Knowing Harshad, he was too respectful of Jennifer to make the first move. And knowing Jennifer, she will never make a move on a fellow co-actor ever.
Naihal saw Anirudh and Harshad come inside from the balcony and Harshad go straight to the food table. Naihal looked up and the wheels in her head started turning, forming a brilliant plan.
"Jennifer you have to try the cheese balls I made." Naihal said and gave Jennifer a nudge, "Common babes, try one and tell me what you think. They are right where Harshad is standing."
Jennifer gave Naihal a suspicious look. Naihal looked back, as innocent as ever. Jennifer knew that Naihal was rooting for her and Harshad to get together, but Jennifer always brushed off Naihal's teasing. 'They were just co-actors...they were just friends...there was nothing between them.' Right now...Jennifer wasn't sure how true those words were, but she will continue to stick by it.
Jennifer, giving into Naihal's pleading eyes, went over to the food table for some cheese balls. Jennifer gave a playful bump to Harshad with her hips when she reached him and he laughed in response. They soon fell into easy conversation with each other.
Naihal observed her two friends and looked over their head. 'Perfect' Naihal thought.
"Oh would you LOOK at who is under the mistletoe! Our very own Aditya and Zoya!" Naihal loudly announced. This caused some folks around the room to whistle and cheer.
Harshad and Jennifer looked over their head to see the pretty mistletoe handing, and their eyes widened at each other.
"Common guys! You have to kiss. It's tradition!" Naihal said excitedly.
"Arre what rubbish Naihal!" Jennifer protested.
This caused some of the other guests to cheer harder. "Whoo! Do it! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!"
Harshad also protested, "No guys! Common!" he yelled, trying to get his voice heard over the chanting.
"Common guys! Don't be such spoilt sports...just a small peck." Naihal egged on, knowing that Jennifer will probably kill her later, but she will risk it.
Jennifer and Harshad both started blushing at being the center of attention. They stared at each other, not knowing what to do. Harshad tried again, "No guys. This is making Jenny uncomfortable, stop." He said, trying to reason with their circle of friends.
Jennifer smiled at that. He was just the sweetest thing. Maybe that's what made her do it. Jennifer placed a gentle hand on Harshad's arm, getting his attention. When he looked at her...she gave him a soft smile...and he knew she gave him permission. The words didn't need to be said. He just knew.
He leaned in and she tilted her face up. It was a soft meeting of lips. It lasted maybe a second or two...and it sent liquid fire down their bodies. The electricity sparked around them and took their breath away. They pulled apart almost instantly, a little shocked what they just felt.
The crowd around them cheered loudly and the clock struck midnight. It was Christmas Day! Everyone got up and wished each other. Hugs and kisses were exchanged.
Harshad and Jennifer, however, didn't move. Harshad stared at Jennifer, and he saw the shift in her eyes. They were darker...and they were speaking volumes. She was attracted to him too...it wasn't one sided...she was attracted to him too.
Not knowing what to say, Jennifer turned to leave but Harshad's voice stopped her. "Jenny..." he said. When Jennifer turned to face him again, he gave a nervous smile. After a moment's hesitation, Harshad finally worked up the courage and asked, "Can I...Can I drive you home tonight?" He asked, giving Jennifer a hopeful look.
Jennifer felt her heart give a loud thud. She really shouldn't. She has taught herself to be careful. She didn't want to make the same mistake again. But looking at Harshad's hopeful eyes and that sweet smile, Jennifer felt herself lose. "Yes..." Jennifer replied, and felt her own smile bloom in return. Harshad was different. Jennifer felt it deep inside her heart that Harshad was different.
Naihal gave a triumphant smile. She was definitely seeing the sparks fly. Naihal looked up and sent a silent thank you to God. Her plan worked. As she turned around, she caught her husband giving her a 'I know what you just did' look. Naihal simply gave him a 'I don't know what you are talking about' look and got busy with the rest of the guests.
Late into the night. Harshad walked Jennifer to her apartment door. When she turned, Harshad took her hand in his. He look at her...and when he saw that shift in Jennifer's eyes again, he pulled her to him...giving her a proper kiss. A kiss that was only between them...a kiss that was taken deeper...a kiss that lasted longer...and a kiss that promised something beautiful.
Church bells could be heard in the distant night. The night was glowing...it felt like...well...Christmas magic.

I know some insta posts have been breaking Jenshad shipper hearts everywhere....but just remember that nothing is confirmed. And even if it's confirmed...we should love them enough to be happy if they are happy. Just stay positive...and positive news will come our way. :)
