Chapter 26
- Ken's Point of View -
So the police came and picked everyone one up, sending them ALL to jail. After a while I began to think why we didn't call the police in the first place? Eh, they probably wouldn't have believed us.
We all sat there, on the steps of the Capital, none of us saying a word. It was just too much at the moment. We had testified earlier about everything and were now free to go.
Luke was off to the side, staring into the water of the pond. I guess he took it pretty hard, loosing Thea.
"I'm sorry about Thea," I said quietly, walking up to him.
He shrugged.
"She told me it would happen eventually when we first left. Oh well...At least I can go home now."
"Why did you go with her in the first place?" I asked.
"She needed someone to stay with her. Otherwise she might have gone the wrong way."
I nodded slowly, feeling even more guilty then I had been before.
"Come on, we'll all go to the airport together," I smiled, walking back to the group with Luke.
We all pulled ourselves together and rode a taxi to the airport.
On the way there Teg giggled a little and I looked at her curiously.
"What's so funny?"
"Oh, I was just contemplating whether I should tell the driver to 'follow that car'! I may never have another chance."
I smiled and laughed, leaning back. It was so nice to see everyone in high spirits. We were all excited to be going home.
..................................................................................
Back home at the airport in Seattle...
"I should've known it," Teg said, looking at her watch.
"What?"
"They're late...You can never trust siblings now a days."
I chuckled a little and looked out the window.
"As far as I can remember, you were always the one not to be trusted."
Teg pretended to be hurt for a minute but didn't bother for too long.
"Come on, let's go outside and look in the parking lot. I think I see a familiar car pulling up," I said.
So we did, and I was right.
Just as we got to the parking lot, right in front of us pulled an old 1950's blue Chevy, Joe at the wheel. Maria and Joe ran out of the car and stood in front, smiling mischievously.
"SWEET CHEEKS!" Teg burst out, running out into the parking lot, past Maria and Joe, and throwing her arms around her long departed truck.
"She always did like her better," Joe giggled.
"Don't worry," I told her.
"I missed you guys, even if your sister didn't."
Then we all laughed and we all gathered in a big group hug, something that had never happened before.
"There's a first for everything," I said.
"Yes, but it'll be the last," Teg answered bluntly.
The End
