Chapter 25
- Ken's Point of View -
We waited for at least 20 minutes in the tech room, all the time staring down the barrels of two sawed off shot guns. Not the most friendly weapon, especially at close range. Those things could blow your head off your shoulders with one bullet. So we decided it was probably best to just co-operate with them, more for the sake of staying alive then anything else.
Although, at the moment I wasn't sure if I'd rather be killed trying to escape then surviving but living in a dungeon all my life...Do they still have dungeons?
"Phony is driving me nuts," Teg hissed.
"Phony?"
"That guy in the corner...I called him Phony."
"Why?"
"For the heck of it, why else would I?"
I shrugged and let the matter rest. It was pretty much impossible to argue with Teg.
"So how do you think they found us in the first place?" I asked her, changing the subject.
"That's what I've been trying to figure...And I found out why. That boy over there," Teg told me, nodding to a teenage boy about the same age as us.
"He was at the school when we had that show down. I have a feeling he was the one who tattled. Or was the one sent to eve's drop."
"They start em' that young?" I asked, feeling even more skeptical towards the human race.
"I guess so...But the question is, why would they want us in the first place?"
"Well I can answer that. They wanted you because you look exactly like the clones and like the rest of the T group."
"Yes but they certainly didn't clone me. I would've remembered that. Really, I'm only here because I happen to look like someone...Ever ask yourself 'why me'?" Teg said thoughtfully.
"All the time. Usually when your sisters blame me for something I didn't do."
Tegan chuckled a little and I had to smile. They certainly were a pair. I was just glad that I hadn't been around at Christmas time. That small house of theirs was jam-packed to bursting point, and with a bunch of wild Hickoks!
"Right, everybody off the floor!" Phony shouted, walking over to us.
All of us stood up and when I stole a glance at Thea she seemed creepily calm about everything.
"We don't want to keep you all here, but we can't let you leave until we find out which of you is the one we used for the cloning."

"You! You seem to be from a remote area," Phony said, pointing at Teg.
"Excuse me? Hoqui is not remote...It's exotic," Teg told him defensively.
"It doesn't matter. We have done lots of discussing and we have decided that you were the one we cloned."
"WHAT?" Both Teg and I shouted.
I saw Thea from the corner of my eye suddenly jump, looking nervous all of a sudden. Then a thought struck me.
"That's not possible," I told him.
"And why is that?"
"You said that the clone has virtually no fear except of the future and the past."
"So?"
"Ken, what are you doing?" Teg whispered.
"Just trust me...Teg can't be a clone. She has stage fright...Sorry Teg, I know I said I wouldn't tell."
Teg smiled at me and her eyes twinkled with the brightest light.
"I only said you couldn't tell about me singing...Thanks Sherlock."
I shrugged.
"You weren't so bad yourself Watson," I answered.
"I hate to burst your bubble Mr.," Phony began.
"But we only have your word for that."
"STOP!" Thea suddenly shouted.
We all swung round to look at her and I saw the alarmed looks on Tehya and Tanya's faces. Thea wasn't a very outspoken person, and now I thought I could guess what she was about to say.
"Just stop right there. I don't want you ruining anyone else's life...I'm the clone."
"WHAT???" Tanya and Tehya shouted.
"That can't be, we're triplets!"
"No you're not. You're twins. Dad worked with these guys in cloning, that's why you never saw him or me. I'm just a clone, and when I figured it out, I ran away. Luke knows, ask him."
We all stared bewildered and Luke nodded solemnly.
"It's true," he said.
Phony was quite non-plussed and he shook his head, pulling out his hand cuffs.
"That won't be necessary," Thea told him quietly.
"I'll go peacefully. I've done far too much running...I'm fed up."
"Whoa, whoa, wait!" I started, thinking hard.
"What are you gonna do to her?"
"We'll freeze her, along with the other clones, until we need them."
I could feel Teg boiling over behind me and I stretched my arm out in front of her.
"There's nothing we can do," I whispered softly.
"At least not yet."
I felt Teg relax a little (Only a little) and Thea gave me a definite stare and I nodded, knowing exactly what she wanted me to do...But even though I didn't like her very much, I still didn't want to do it.
"You can all leave now," Phony said.
"But if you speak of this to anyone, you're the first ones we're coming after!"
"Um, can we come with you?" I suddenly asked.
Phony looked surprised and suspicious.
"Why?"
"She's our friend...We'd like to see her off."
It seemed that Luke was the only one who caught on, but after a moment Phony nodded and we all left the room. Walking down the hall to a big laboratory, I heard Teg swear under her breath. My eyes grew wide and I looked at her curiously. I had never, EVER, heard her swear, curse, or cuss, before. Although I gave her leave for this situation. I think even God would dismiss her for that.
Thea stepped into a glass coffin looking thing with a bunch of tubes attached to it, along with all the other clones, and she looked at me, then shifted her eyes to a big control table and a giant metal box.
Suddenly even more made sense and I felt incredibly guilty, even though I hadn't even done anything yet...I had Teg and her good influence to blame!
"READY?" Phony shouted.
I quickly leaned over and whispered instructions to Teg and Luke, then they passed it on.
A scientist in a white jacket placed his hand on a lever.
I watched the guards and their sawed off shotguns closely. Teg and I were probably the only ones who knew how to use them, but that is all it would take.
"AND..."
"STOP!" I shouted.
Teg immediately elbowed a guard behind us and grabbed his gun, knocking the end of it right against his jaw and sending him flying across the floor. I did the same, only with slightly different tactics, and Luke ran to the control table, punching the scientist square on the jaw.
"SHOOT THEM!" Phony shouted, but Teg had already reached him and had the gun pointing at him, at a safe distance of course.
"If you shoot, Phony here'll be the first one down!" Teg shouted.
I looked at Thea and she nodded slowly. Reluctantly I yelled at Luke to do as instructed.
He grabbed one of the guns by the barrel, making sure there were no bullets left, and began to smash the control table. Then, with one sad movement, he pushed the metal box right over. One split second passed as we saw a tear trickle down Thea's cheek, then she collapsed, along with the other clones.
The room was filled with smoke and the fire alarm had gone off.
"Right," I began quietly.
"Tehya...Call 911."
