Chapter 19

- Tanya's Point of View -

"This is so not cool," I whispered to myself.

"You've stated that already," Pete so kindly reminded me.

"But it's not...I don't even know what's going on."

"You never know what's going on." Tehya smiled weakly.

It had been almost two years since Tehya had left for school in Britain, and I hadn't seen her the whole time. She was always the one to crack jokes.

"At least I use to be happily ignorant."

"You know what they say, 'ignorance is bliss'." Thea said, keeping a totally strait face.

Then that girl Tegan walked up to us, looking curiously at Thea.

"You don't seem to be ignorant, even if you want to."

Thea looked at Tegan with a steady gaze, eventually looking behind her at that boy...Ken, I think he was called.

"You sure are observant...You're lucky you don't know what's going on."

"If you told me, maybe we could get out of here." Tegan reasoned.

"Huh, you're dreaming. There's no way we'll get out of here."

Tegan raised one eyebrow, then glanced around her where all the men in white jackets were fiddling with chemicals.

"There's a vent right above us that isn't screwed in properly. That ladder over there," She pointed toward a ladder on the other end of the room, without looking away from Thea. "Should be long enough to allow us to climb onto that water pipe over there, then monkey climb to the vent...I'm assuming you know how to climb?"

Tehya and me stared, mouths wide open. How did she plan our escape within five minutes of being in the room?

"Yes, we know how to climb." Thea answered her, gesturing toward Tehya and me.

"Tanya," Tegan said, looking at me with a sharp gaze.

"Does that girl know how to climb?" She asked, pointing toward Rose.

"Yeah, but...But how did you plan that...Escape, in such a short time?"

"A whole lot of games of rafter tag."

I looked at her confused, but she didn't bother to explain further, so I shrugged it off.

"When do you plan on getting out of here?" Thea asked, rather skeptically.

"Just as soon as I figure out what we're escaping from."

"Well...Well I can't tell you that."

Tegan eyed Thea, then gave up, walking back to Ken.

"Thea, if you know something, don't you think we should trust them?" I asked, glancing over at Tegan and Ken.

"Why?"

"Seriously? She came up with a plan of escape in literally, five minutes."

"Doesn't mean we can trust them."

"What is wrong with you, Thea?" Tehya asked, not quite believing what her own sibling was saying.

We may be triplets, but it seemed more like Tehya and me were twins, and Thea was some sort of...Clone, or lookalike. She had left with our Dad for some weird reason when we were 12.

"There's nothing wrong with me. I just don't trust them."

"Well I do, and if you're not coming with us, you can stay." I told her, turning and walking toward Tegan and Ken.

Tegan looked at me curiously, tilting her head to one side, reminding me somewhat of a puppy dog.

"Changed your mind?"

I looked back at Thea, then back to Tegan.

"I was never against you."

"What about your...Triplet?"

"Huh, I think Tehya and me are more like twins."

She gave me a curious look and I shook my head.

"Never mind. It's a long story...Anyway, I trust you, and she doesn't."

"Huh, I gathered that. She doesn't seem to be the trusting type."

"You guys have a plan, she doesn't. She should come around soon."

"Plan? What plan?" Ken asked, looking at Tegan with a puzzled, and slightly skeptical, look on his face.

"Wait...You didn't tell him?"

"Well...Ya see...Ken can be a bit...Protective, at times."

"Hey! I am not." Ken protested.

"Haha, Pete's the same way."

"What did I hear you say?" I heard Pete say from behind me.

I suddenly stiffened and looked at Tegan who seemed to be enjoying herself immensely. Then I gave her a pleading look and she sighed, deciding to be nice.

"She was just saying what a nice guy you are...?"

"Peter. Or Pete." He answered.

A let out a short breath and Tegan smiled.

"Anyway, what is this thing about an escape you didn't bother to mention to me?" Ken persisted.

"Well, I had an-"

"ATTENTION!"

"Oh great! Mr. Jerk Face is back." I said under my breath.

"Meet, experiments T-1, T-6, and T-25!" He announced, gesturing toward a giant metal door.

Two men in white coats opened the door and three girls walked out, a bit more stiff then a regular person. They had helmets on their heads and they were dressed in white jump suits.

"Remove the helmets!" The tall man ordered, the white-coated men removing them.

Suddenly a gasp broke out of my mouth and I stood there, shocked at what I saw. I walked slowly toward them, reaching out to touch one of them.

"They look...They look like..."

"Like us." I heard Thea say, defeat in her voice.
