Chapter 18
- Ken's Point of View -
"EXPERIMENT? Um, I am a human being, thank you very much. And I DON'T need an experiment." Tegan lashed.
I had to grab her by the arm and drag her back before she pounced on the guy.
"Calm down Tegan. We're not out of here yet." I whispered to her.
She pulled her arm away, but didn't make another move. She knew I was right.
"Yes," The tall man said, as if in thought. "Let your Prince save you, little Princess."
I immediately grabbed Tegan's arm again, just as she was about to leap on him. She could tear him apart, I knew that much. But there were armed guards all around us, and I'd be an idiot to let her do that.
"Tegan, not now." I hissed in her ear.
For the first time in my life, I called her Tegan...I usually just called her Teg...
The tall man walked up to the line of us, and looked at each one of us, inspecting each person thoroughly. Looking them up and down till he knew every detail. Then he turned around and walked back to his desk.
"It is quite interesting that you all look exactly the same, wouldn't you agree?" He asked, referring to Tegan and her 'look a likes'.
"Not so interesting, if you have something to do with it." What's her name...Thea, said, nonchalantly.
"Mmm...Take them to their cell. I can't begin without permission from Falcon." The tall man ordered, gesturing toward the door.
The guards behind us pushed us toward the door and we obeyed, not wanting to be shot. We were led down a long hall and into an elevator, taking us down several floors and eventually opening into a small, yet furnished, room. Still with no windows. A few of the others sat down, some of them paced the floor...And Teg lay flat on her back on the floor. I looked around at the brown couches and vases, thinking how boring the room was. Not that I expected our cell to be the Buckingham Palace, but they could've at least added a little color.
I glanced around once more, then decided to join Teg on the floor. Everyone was in their own little groups, each one out of earshot from the other. This is going to be a long day, I thought, leaning against the wall.
"Ken," Teg started quietly, scooting up into a sitting position and leaning against the wall next to me.
"Yeah?"
"I'm...I'm real scared."
Well I never thought I'd hear those words come out of her mouth.
"We all are." I told her, pulling my knees up.
"I wish there was something we could do."
"Well wishing won't get us anywhere!" Teg snapped, clearly stressed out.
"I know. I just thought it was better then..." I said, my voice trailing off as I realized it was no use.
"You didn't think at all! Why do you always have to be so positive?"
I looked at her, not exactly believing what I was hearing.
"Teg...What's the matter?" I asked, looking her strait in the eye.
As I held her gaze, her lip quivered a little, making my heart sink as she spoke.
"What's the matter? Ken, we're trap in who-knows-where, surrounded by creepy guards and most likely going to be used for an experiment. That's what's the matter!" She cried, burying her face in her knees.
I looked around at everyone else, every single one of them looking as though they were about to burst into tears...Except Thea and Luke. It was strange, the way they acted. They certainly weren't happy, but I felt as though they actually knew what was going on. And if they did...We might have a chance.
"Teg," I said quietly.
"You have to have hope. God will make sure everything turns out just fine."
Teg snapped her head up at that, and looked at me with curious eyes. I didn't blame her. I was never one to talk much about God.
"But...But you don't believe in God." She said, genuinely confused at my statement.
"I never said that."
Teg looked off for a second, trying to recall a time when I had actually said that I didn't believe in God. And when she couldn't, she looked back to me with curious, and frankly, somewhat happy, eyes.
"And you never cared to share this with me?"
I had to laugh at that, getting a few strange looks from everyone else.
"Because you never asked."
"When did you decide to...start...you know, believing?"
"When I was 12."
Teg's eyes went wide with shock and I tried to hide a smile.
"That long ago?"
"You're a better convincer then you give yourself credit for. You never preached to me, which only made me more curious."
"Oh!" She said bluntly, as if the thought had never occurred to her.
I was about to say something further, when the tall man walked out of the elevator, a black briefcase in his hands.
"Right. Mr. Falcon is back now, so would you be so kind as to follow me?"
Just as he said that, the armed guards came out to escort us. We went down the elevator shaft even further, and I could've sworn we were underground. Eventually, we walked out of the elevator, into a sort of laboratory with a couple men in white suits, fiddling with some weird, blue-looking chemical.
"So," One of the men said.
"Which one should we start with?"
- Hey guys!!! What do you think of the chapter? Before I forget, if you have time, could you check out "The Inexplicable Musician"? It's a book I'm writing with BelieveinHisLove on our joint account, TrinitiesFollowers. Thanks a bunch - Anna
