Chapter 6

Ursa is woken in the morning by rough shaking. "Get up." Narcissa hisses and Ursa groans in response. "Get your ass up now." Ursa sighs and sits up. "Get dressed. I will be back in ten minutes for breakfast."

"Yes Mother." Ursa says. Narcissa storms out of the room and locks the door behind her. "So she's still pissed."

Later in the day, Narcissa unlocks Ursa's door and storms in. Ursa is sitting on the bed writing with her keyboard in front of her. "You are running errands with me."

"Why?" Ursa asks.

Narcissa walks over and grabs Ursa's chin. "Because you are in trouble, your father is working, and I said so. Now get ready."

"Yes Mother."

Ursa sighs later as they walk into the fourth shop before slouching in annoyance. "Do not slouch." Narcissa hisses and Ursa stands straight.

When they leave that shop, Ursa spots the Weasleys behind them and across the street out of the corner of her eye. She makes sure Narcissa isn't looking before sticking her tongue put at them. The Weasleys laugh and Ursa turns her head back. Ursa schools her face as Narcissa stops in front of Flourish and Blotts. "Go inside and stay there. I must take care of something."

"Yes Mother." Ursa replies before going inside and to the Dark Arts section. She quickly realizes she has most of these books and goes to the Runes section.

"Hey Ursa." Ron says.

Ursa looks around for Narcissa before speaking. "What the hell Ron? I told you not to acknowledge me in public."

"Yeah but I saw your mum sneak into Knockturn Alley so I thought it was safe." Ron replies.

"It's not. Now go away before my mother shows up and I have to insult you." Ron nods and walks away. "That could have ended badly." Suddenly there is a Weasley twin on each side of her. They start trying to tickle her. "Hey. Knock it off before my mother shows up."

"You're no fun." George says before they walk away, just in time for Narcissa to walk in. She goes up to the counter and gets an order from the shopkeeper.

"Come Ursa." Narcissa says as she spots Ursa.

"Yes Mother." Ursa replies before walking to join her at the door. Ron accidentally runs into her and she pushes him away in disgust. "Ew, watch where you are going Weasley. Do you need glasses but Mummy and Daddy cannot afford them?" Ursa then mouths. "Sorry."

"What's going on here?" Mrs Weasley asks as she walks over to Ron.

"Shut up Malfoy." Ron says.

"Or what?" Ursa says as she smirks darkly. "I know you all are terrified of me. You have seen what I can do."

"I'm not." Ginny says.

"Need your little sister to protect you?" Ursa raises an eyebrow. "Pathetic. And you should be scared of me little one."

"Come Ursa, they are not worth our time." Narcissa says.

"Yes Mother. Watch your backs, Weasleys." Ursa says before mouthing. "Sorry." Ursa spins on her heel before following Narcissa out.

"Did she say sorry?" Mrs Weasley asks.

"That's Ursa Malfoy. She's the twins and my friend but her parents don't and can't know. And Hermione and Harry's friend too. She didn't want to insult us but it's what her mum expected of her."

When they return home, Narcissa takes Ursa back up to her room. "What did you mean by, 'you have seen what I can do.'?" She asks Ursa.

"At least one of them saw me turn Draco's apple into a dragon, disarm Crouch in the first class, and me training. All of the ones still in Hogwarts were at the Yule Ball and saw the duel." Ursa replies.

"Why did you disarm him?"

"He was showing us the Unforgivable Curses. Specifically the Cruciatus Curse directly in front of Longbottom. He would not stop when someone pointed out it was bothering Longbottom so I disarmed him."

"Of course you did."

"Until I found out Crouch was masquerading as Mad-Eye I was confused as to why he would do that since I know he was one of the Aurors that caught Auntie."

"You care too much about others sometimes."

"Honestly the sound of the spider screeching was hurting my ears."

Ursa comes home from a sleepover at Pansy's still drunk. "Were you drinking?" Narcissa asks as Ursa steps out of the fireplace.

"Mom do we really have to do this?" Ursa asks. "You ask if I was drinking, I say 'no' and we both know that's not true. I mean aren't we past this point in our relationship?"

"No we are not young lady."

"Then I wasn't drinking."

"Have you slept?"

"We forgot."

"Yeah she said 'Mom' and is using contractions, she is still drunk." Draco says.

"I mean we didn't start till like three."

"Draco please help your sister upstairs before your father sees her." Narcissa says.

Draco gently takes Ursa's arm. "Alright come on." Draco guides her up the stairs and to her room. "How much did you have to drink?"

"Not enough to be sick or black out but definitely will be hungover." Draco rolls his eyes and helps Ursa into her bed.

"Good night Ursa." Draco says.

"Nighty night."

Ursa does not wake up until near dinner time. She groans as she holds her head. She drags herself to the basement potion storage. She check the shelf where the Hangover Cures should be to find it empty. "The hell?" Ursa mumbles. "I made sure we had some before I left for Pansy's." She walks over to the logbook and reads it. "Let's see. Someone removed Hangover Cures, took out all four." Ursa sighs when she sees who took them. "Taken by Narcissa and the note box says 'Nice try Cub'. Fuck." Ursa drags herself back upstairs and gets ready for dinner.

She goes down to the dinning room to find Draco and Narcissa waiting, Narcissa smirking. "And how are you doing Ursa?" Narcissa asks loudly. Ursa glares in response. "Maybe you will not get drunk at a party again."

"She probably will." Draco says.

"Like you haven't."

"I haven't remember? I always get caught."

"Only at school."

"Do not remind me!" Narcissa exclaims.

"Shh, turn off your mouth siren." Ursa says before she puts her arms and head on the table and Lucius walks in.

"What is wrong with her?" Lucius asks.

"She got drunk at Pansy's sleepover and Mother took all of the Hangover Cure potions." Draco answers.

"Really Ursa?" Lucius exclaims and Ursa whines.

"Too loud." Ursa lifts her head and grumbles.

"Did it ever occur to you to get a pain-relieve potion instead?" Narcissa asks.

"No." Ursa mumbles before putting her head back down.

Bellatrix walks in and speaks directly into Ursa's ear. "Good morning." She says.

"Oww! Fuck you." Ursa says.

"Do not curse Ursa." Narcissa says.

"And 'fuck you' to whoever told her I was hungover."

***

"Children!" Narcissa yells up the stairs. "Your grades are here!" Narcissa walks back into the dining room and her, Lucius, and Bellatrix chuckle when they hear thundering upstairs.

"I wish I was ever so excited about grades." Bellatrix says.

"They are about to be fifth years." Lucius says as Draco and Ursa come thundering down the stairs. "They are finding out if they are prefects."

"Move Ferret." They hear Ursa say before there is a thud. Ursa runs in.

"What did you just do to your brother?" Narcissa asks with a sigh.

"She pushed me into the wall." Draco says as he walks in rubbing his arm.

"You were moving too slow. You are lucky I did not push you down the stairs." Ursa says. Narcissa chuckles and hands them their letters. Ursa tears hers open. "Yes!" Ursa cheers.

"Prefect?" Lucius asks. Ursa looks in the envelope.

"I guess not but I got all O's." Draco groans as he reads his. Ursa snatches his letter from him. "Uh oh. Somebody got an E." Ursa says teasingly. "Ohh and you did not get higher than second in our year."

"Like you did better." Draco says.

"1st in Transfiguration, Potions, DADA, Divinations, and Care of Magical Creatures. 2nd in Charms and History of Magic. Tied for 1st in Herbology and Astronomy. Which is probably the only reason you got second in Herbology and Astronomy. Only got second in Divinations because Granger doesn't take it. Told you I was going to knock you down to third. And it seems I knocked Granger down to second."

"Well done Ursa." Lucius says.

Draco shoves his prefect badge in Ursa's face. "Well at least I got prefect."

"What?!" Ursa exclaims. "Wow."

"Why are you not prefect?" Bellatrix questions Ursa.

"I do not know but you can bet I'm interrogating Severus. Maybe did not want siblings to be prefects. Or wanted someone who would abuse it against the Gryffindors."

"Why Draco then instead of you?"

"Have you met the boys in our year? Zabini is the only other boy that isn't a complete idiot."

"And you do not behave the best." Draco says. "How many times did you get detention last year?"

"How many of those were because I annoyed Severus? Most of them. So I do not misbehave in general. I just enjoy annoying Severus. He doesn't enjoy giving me detention like he does others. I make it so unsatisfying."

***

Ursa walks through the library, where Narcissa is, to one of the back doors. "Where are you going?" Narcissa asks.

"Owlery."Ursa replies.

"I went earlier. You got a letter from Daphne Greengrass." Ursa turns and walks to Narcissa who is holding out a letter. "It was an odd owl. Not one of their usual ones. Very clumsy and seemed old."

Ursa rolls her eyes with a smile as she takes the letter. "Errol probably. Blind old bird. Has Lyra returned yet?"

"No, where did you send her?"

"To a friend. She will probably be back tomorrow." Ursa opens her letter and smiles. "Can Draco and I go to Diagon Alley alone this year?"

"I will think about it and speak with your father."

"Thank you!"

A few days later, Draco walks into Ursa's room. "Why did our parents just tell me we could go to Diagon Alley alone this year?" He asks.

"I asked Mother if we could." Ursa replies. "My friends want to hang out."

Draco groans. "Ugh they said we had to stick together."

"Boo hoo you have to hang out with my friends for a few hours. You'll live. Just promise me you'll be decent."

"I will."

***

Ursa and Draco step out of the fireplace in the Leaky Cauldron and Harry groans. "Why is he here?" Harry asks.

"Trust me." Draco says. "I do not want to be here."

"Our parents told us we had to stick together if we wanted to come alone." Ursa replies.

"Oh fun." Harry says.

"I made him promise to behave."

"I hope no one sees me with you." Draco says. "What will people think?"

Ursa shoves Draco. "Okay I made him promise to be decent."

"Come on." Hermione says. They walk out into the back alley and into the street.

"You need to be careful who you send letters with." Ursa says.

"Why?" Ron asks.

"My mother was a little suspicious of Errol since the letter said it was from Daphne Greengrass. A blind old bird doesn't really say 'pureblood'."

"I wanted to let you know quickly and Mrs Weasley wouldn't let me send Lyra back and neither of these two would let me use theirs." Hermione says.

"What did happen to Lyra?" Ursa asks.

"Rough landing"

"Aww." Draco says. "Poor Lyra."

"Malfoy has feelings?" Ron asks.

"Ron!" Ursa exclaims. "If he has to be decent to you, you can at least be decent to him."

"Fine." Ron replies as Lyra lands on Ursa's shoulder.

"Speaking of Lyra." Ursa says. "Took you long enough." Lyra bites the shell of Ursa's ear and Ursa chuckles. "I'm sorry again about last week Ron."

"It's alright." Ron says. "So Percy was at your party?"

"Following the Minister around like a lost puppy. It was pathetic."

"And I thought your family could not get more pathetic." Draco says and Ursa slaps his arm.

"I can completely see why you call him Fudge's lapdog."

"Did you get your grades for last year?" Hermione asks.

"Yes." Ursa says. "Exactly what I was expecting."

"Which was?"

"What do you think she got?" Draco asks. "All Os. And took your place as top student."

"Poor Draco got an E." Ursa teases. "I wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that conversation with our parents."

"Shut up." Draco mumbles.

"An E is bad?" Ron asks.

"Our parents expect us to have perfect grades and be the top of our class." Ursa answers. "Our parents absolutely hate it when Hermione is doing better than one of us. We usually get an angry letter when they find that out."

"Because I'm Muggle-born?" Hermione asks and Ursa nods.

"How do they know?" Harry asks.

"Snape." Ursa grumbles. "He tells them almost everything. He even gets our homework assignments from our teachers to make sure we are doing them.

"It's like having a parent there." Draco says.

"Oh Draco and I need to stop at Gringotts." Ursa says.

"Did you remember the key?" Draco asks.

"'Did you remember the key?'" Ursa mocks. "Of course I did. That's why Mother gave it to me and not you."

"I need to go to my vault too." Harry says.

"And I need to exchange Muggle money." Hermione says.

"What about you Ron?" Ursa asks.

"I'm fine." Ron mumbles.

"Lyra, you have to stay outside." Lyra hoots angrily. "I know but you know the goblins don't like owls in the vaults." Lyra flies off Ursa's shoulder and lands on Ron's. "Is it okay if she stays with you?"

"Yeah."

Everyone but Ron goes inside. Hermione goes to the exchange desk and Draco and Ursa go to the front desk with Harry behind them. "Name?" The goblin at the desk asks without looking up.

"Malfoy." Ursa replies and the goblin looks up.

"Ah the Little Malfoys. We had heard you were coming alone this year. Do you have the key?"

Ursa holds up two keys. "I also need to get into the Lestrange vault."

The goblin raises an eyebrow. "One moment please." The goblin disappears and another takes his place a moment later.

"I am the Head-Goblin." The new goblin says. "I hear you wish to enter the Lestrange vault."

"Yes sir." Ursa replies.

"And what exactly is your relation to the Lestranges?"

Ursa stands on her toes and whispers to the Head-Goblin. "Corvus Oculum Corvi Non Eruit. Toujours Pur. Sanctimonia Vincet Semper."

The Head-Goblin nods. "So Malfoy and Lestrange vaults?"

"I um I need to get into mine too." Harry says and the goblin looks at the Malfoys questioningly.

"I guess he can come too." Ursa says.

They go to Harry's vault first. "Hold on tight Potter." Ursa says after Harry finishes in his. "It is a long ride."

"What?" Harry questions.

"Please." Draco scoffs. "Do you really think our vault would be as easy to get to as yours?"

"Fair warning, it can be a little scary." Ursa says. The cart moves and they go deeper underground. They pass through Thief's Downfall and the cart slows to a stop. The goblin says something that sounds like gibberish into a box and they move again.

"What was that?" Harry asks. "What did he say?"

"A password check." Ursa answers. "I have no idea what he said." The carts stops at the end and Harry sees the Dragon.

"That-that." Harry stutters.

"Is a dragon yes." Draco says.

The Head-Goblin grabs a clanker and starts using it. "Keep close." He says. They make it to the hall and the goblin stops using the clanker. "First up, the Lestrange vault. What is your relationship to the Lestranges again?"

Ursa whispers to the goblin again. "Sanctimonia Vincet Semper. Toujours Pur. Corvus Oculum Corvi Non Eruit." The goblin puts his hand on the door and the lock appears. Ursa hands him the key and he unlocks the door. "I will just be a moment. Lumos." Ursa steps carefully through the vault. She looks for an object and confirms it is still there before going back out. "Nox. All done."

"Anyone else hear that?" Harry asks.

"No." Draco and Ursa both say. The goblin closes up the vault and they continue down the hall to the Malfoy vault.

"Did you actually get anything?" Draco asks.

"No." Ursa replies. "'Warrior' [Bellatrix] wanted me to make sure something was still in there."

"You actually listened to 'Warrior?'"

"Shocking, I know... 'Warrior' told me she would stop bugging me about joining 'Death' [Voldemort] for three days if I did. Come on let's get to ours."

"Who is 'Warrior' and 'Death?'" Harry asks.

"Do not worry about it." Ursa says. They get to the Malfoy vault and the goblin unlocks it. Draco and Ursa go inside. There are piles of bags as well as various objects.

"Whoa." Harry says. "I thought my vault had a lot."

"Hey!" Ursa exclaims. "Stay out Potter. Everything in here is probably cursed and if you are not a Malfoy... well I do not know what will happen. And a bunch of these are Dark Magic. And this is maybe half our wealth. Maybe less." Ursa sees Draco grab two bags from one of the piles. "Hey! We only need one each." Draco tosses one of the bags to Ursa.

"I was grabbing one for you." Draco says and Ursa rolls her eyes. "Did our parents want us to get anything else while we are here?"

"No," Ursa replies as she walks over to a cabinet. "But I need some fairy wings and dragon blood."

"Couldn't you just get some from an apothecary?"

"No. Those are fresh fairy wings if they have them at all. And I need Hungarian Horntail blood and apothecaries normally only sell Common Welsh Green blood." Ursa pulls a box out of the cabinet and pulls out a container of fairy wings. Ursa grabs a vial from her bag and transfers a few wings to the vial.

"I have never met anyone who is so specific in their ingredients."

"Yes you have. Where do you think I learned it?"

"Severus?"

"And Mother."

"Severus?" Harry questions.

"Professor Snape." Ursa replies. "We call him Severus or Uncle Severus outside of class." Ursa pulls a set crate of vials out of another cabinet. She searches for the right vial and finds what she's looking for in a bottle. "Damn. I had hoped it was in vials." Ursa pulls another vial out of her bag and transfers some of the blood from the bottle to the vial using magic. "There we go."

"Are you almost done?" Draco asks as she puts the vial away.

"Almost." Ursa opens a drawer. "I just need a Romanian Longhorn's horn." Ursa finds the horn and puts one in her bag. "Alright. Let's go."
