Chapter 41

"Should we wake them?" Goyle whispers to Pansy in the morning.

"No." She whispers back. "I don't think either if them fell asleep until a few hours ago. I'll put a Silencing Charm on the room."

The common room is deserted when Ursa wakes. She looks at the time to see she slept through her first class. She hears the common room door open and turns her head to see Snape come in. Snape sits on the other side of her. "Hey." She says.

"I know all of this is going to effect Draco and Narcissa more than you." Snape says and tears come to Ursa's eyes.

"We were going to fix our relationship this summer."

"I know you are going to do anything it takes to take care of them. Just make sure you don't burn yourself out. You'll be no use to anyone if you do. If you need an escape, you know where I live. The key to the backdoor is under the mat and Wormtail will be there. I'm getting my fireplace removed from the network when the semester is over. Can't risk anyone overhearing anything."

"They'll probably take us off it at some point."

"If you decide to go to the Weasleys or just want to be alone at Grimmauld, let me know and I'll tell your mother you're with me."

     "Thanks."

"Get dressed and go see Dumbledore. I'll wait here for him." Ursa nods and carefully stands. She goes into her dorm and changes into casual clothes. She goes to the gargoyle statue guarding Dumbledore's office. She uses the password to reveal the staircase and goes up them. She knocks on the door before going inside.

"Ah Miss Malfoy." Dumbledore says. "Come in. Have a seat." Dumbledore summons a tea tray and pours himself some tea. "Would you like any?"

     "No." Ursa says. Dumbledore nods.

"I am sure you have a lot of questions."

"You could have gotten Sirius released at any time."

      "No. I couldn't."

      "Why not?"

"Harry needed to go to the Dursleys. As Harry's godfather, he would have been the one to raise him."

"So you sent him to Azkaban to get him out of the way and now he's dead."

     "So your friends know now."

"Yes. I'm glad they know now but I am worried about them being resentful that I hid it. Remus said his friends weren't happy he hide his Lycanthropy that long."

     "Remus huh?"

"A lot of the Order has told me to call them by their first names. I do not understand it. He actually tried to get me to tell them around Christmas."

"Good, I think he would be a good person to go to."

"Why did you show me those memories?" Ursa asks as she crosses her arms. "Me of all people."

     "What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean Professor. The Order doesn't even know about some of those things. My family is within the Dark Lord's inner circle. Why trust me? What's keeping me from telling the Dark Lord everything?"

     "Your heart." Ursa sighs.

"Why that night? Why Severus begging you to protect the Potters? Why the Longbottoms? Why the prophecy? Especially the prophecy."

"Because you, more than anyone, need to know what we are up against."

     "Why?"

"That was not the only prophecy Professor Trelawney gave me that night. One the Dark Lord does not know about. Come. I will show you." Dumbledore goes over to the Pensive cabinet and sets it up. He pours a memory in the basin and they both touch the water's surface. They both appear in the pub.

"There is a child, already born, from a dark family with another child on the way." Trelawney says. "They are a special child, able to fly. They will be skilled in Dark Arts and have knowledge and power. They will be sent away before their sixth year, returning in their fourteenth. This child will have to choose between light and dark, their friends or their family, making them essential to the Dark Lord's defeat or success."

They come back out of the pensive. "I fully believe that child to be you." Dumbledore says.

"When was this made?" Ursa asks.

     "Early 1980."

"My mother would have been pregnant with Draco at that time." Ursa sighs and sits back down. "So that's what it said. I had it but I gave it to my father and told him to run. Bellatrix took it from him before he could escape and he had to fight. She dropped it after Harry attacked her in the Atrium and I only head the end. '-making them essential to the Dark Lord's defeat or success.'"

"You gave it to your father?"

     "I tried to save him."

"So Voldemort may know by now." Dumbledore sighs. "You know which side you need to choose."

"How do you know that means his defeat?"

     "We have to believe."

"I don't want to lose them."

"I know. Now. This summer you must join the Death Eaters. Gain his trust. Fall into the pressure. For your safety you will be an official Order member when you turn 17 and I will be informing the Order you are an honorary member until then. That will protect you in case you end up in a fight on Voldemort's side. If Voldemort finds out about the prophecy, he will want you on his side or dead. Harry knows his prophecy now if you want to talk to him about it. Now go rant to Severus like we both know you were going to." Ursa leaves and goes down to Snape's classroom. She sits at the front table of the empty classroom and Snape glances in her direction. He doesn't say anything, knowing she'll speak when she's ready.

She tells him what Dumbledore told her, giving him shit for being kicked out of the Hog's Head before hearing hers. "At least the Dark Lord doesn't know." Snape says.

"He probably does now. Bellatrix possibly heard it all."

"So that's why he said he is going to make you an honorary Order member."

"Because I'm in danger and also if I end up in a fight against the Order." Ursa sighs. "I'm scared Severus. If he finds out my true loyalties..."

"Trust me. I know the feeling."

"I'm only 16 and now I have the pressure of protecting so many people on my shoulders instead of just my family."

"Maybe you should talk to Potter about that feeling."

"I don't think he wants to talk to me."

     "Why not?"

"Sirius died saving me. Bellatrix tried to kill me but he pushed me out of the way."

     "Bella tried to kill you?"

     "Are you really that surprised?"

"No, just didn't think she'd do it in front of people."

"She hates me. Especially now that she knows I'm a blood-traitor."

"Well you can always come to my house to escape if you need it."

"I know Severus. Any idea what happened to Umbridge?"

"Dumbledore got her back from the centaurs and she has either been fired or quit."

"Well at least she won't be a pain in my ass anymore."

"Or you in hers." Ursa chuckles. "Go check on your brother."

"I will. Probably already back to harassing people." Ursa gets up and leaves the room. She reaches the hall to see Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle coming out of the way to the common room. Ursa walks over to Draco. "How are you doing?"

     "I'm fine." Draco says shortly.

     "Draco-"

"I said I'm fine." Ursa sighs and goes outside. She finds Harry walking back from Hagrid's.

"Look if you want to talk, I am here. If not that's fine too. I know you know about your prophecy now and it is probably a lot to take in." Ursa says to Harry. "I'm sorry about Sirius. I understand if you don't want to talk to me and see me as responsible for his death." Harry just nods in response before going back inside.

When they arrive at King's Cross, it is easy for Ursa to find Narcissa as everyone is staying away from her. Ursa walks over and hugs Narcissa tightly. "He's not doing well but won't admit it." Ursa whispers to Narcissa. She nods and kisses Ursa's forehead. After a few minutes Draco comes over and they walk to the Floo fireplaces.
