Chapter 27

Ursa slips through the manor stairwells up to her tower. She points her fingers at the window. "Finite Tempus." Red sparks shoot from her fingers and hit an invisible wall. She carefully climbs out the window and down the makeshift stairs. "I'm so dead." She mutters to herself before falling off the roof and flying away.

An hour later, she lands in an alley near Grimmauld Place. She groans as the house appears, realizing she can't open the door without her wand. She knocks on the door, careful not to wake Walburga's portrait. The door opens a crack and a wand sticks out. "It's the Noble Phoenix." Ursa says, using the code name they set up for her. The door opens fully to reveal Mrs Weasley.

"I thought we taught you how to open the door." Mrs Weasley says as she lets Ursa in.

"You did but my mother took my wand again." Ursa replies as she walks in and takes off her coat. "I'm glad someone's awake."

"Someone's always awake." Mrs Weasley says. "The girls are upstairs and should be asleep so be quiet."

"Thank you." Ursa walks towards the stairs.

"Oh and Ursa?" Ursa turns back around. "Thanks for keeping Ginny safe. We didn't realize the party was there. We wouldn't have let her go if we knew. No offense."

"Of course. I always protect my friends. And none taken." Ursa goes upstairs and to the girl's room.

"Ursa!" Hermione exclaims. "What are you doing here?"

"I decided I would rather spend Christmas here than with my father." Ursa turns to Ginny. "Good to see you in one piece. Never accept a ball invitation from a pureblood again. Or at least talk to me first. Most are held by my family."

In the morning, Narcissa goes upstairs to wake Ursa and growls when she finds her room empty. She uses a Human-Presence Revealing spell, causing the adults downstairs to become confused while Draco looks at his lap. "Draco Lucius Malfoy!" Narcissa yells, using magic to project her voice. "Get your fucking ass up here!" Bellatrix and Lucius look at Draco to see him looking at his lap. "Now!" Draco takes a deep breath before getting up and leaving.

"Something big must of happened if she's swearing like that." Bellatrix says.

"And using his full name." Lucius replies. "On Christmas. You felt that spell too right?"

     "Ursa left again."

     "That's my guess."

Draco keeps his head down as he walks down the hall towards Narcissa, who has her arms crossed and looks furious. "Where the hell is your sister?" Narcissa asks.

     "I don't know." Draco mumbles.

     "Pardon?"

"I do not know." Draco says. "She would not tell me."

"So you knew she was leaving, but decided not to tell me?"

     "Yes."

"Did she tell you anything else?" Draco stays silent and Narcissa uses a finger to lift his chin. "Unless you would like your ass to be grounded for the rest of break like your sister will be, you will tell me what you know immediately."

     "Yes Mother."

At Grimmauld Place, Ursa goes into the dining room and barely ducks in time to keep from being hit by a flying Santa.

     "Morning Ursa." Ginny says.

"Here we go." Mrs Weasley says as she rolls Mr Weasley in. "Daddy's back." Everyone claps and Ursa smiles. "Sit down, everybody, sit down." Everyone sits. "Now presents!" Ursa smiles as she watches everyone open their presents. She chuckles quietly as Mrs Weasley tries to figure out which twin is which.

"A Christmas toast!" Mr Weasley says. "To Mr Harry Potter... without whom, I wouldn't be here."

     "Harry." Everyone says.

"And," Mr Weasley says. "To Miss Ursa Malfoy... without whom, we would be spending Christmas in St Mungos."

     "Ursa." Everyone says before drinking.

     "Thank you sir." Ursa says.

"Ursa." Sirius says before sitting across from her and sliding a box across the table. "From Tonks, Andromeda, and me."

"You didn't have to." Ursa says before opening the box. "It's beautiful." Ursa carefully picks the ring up out of the box. "Is this Elladora's?"

     "Yes, how did you know?"

"Andromeda said if we ever met she would give it to me since Tonks doesn't wear fancy jewelry and she wants to keep it in the Black family."

"Where are you?!" Severus yells through the connection, causing Ursa to flinch. "I don't think I've seen your mother this angry in years."

"Good Lord!" Ursa replies. "Did you have to yell? Where do you think I am?"

     "Headquarters?"

     "Yep."

"She's going to kill you." The kids at the table look at Ursa weird as her facial expression changes with what she's saying.

"I know as long as Draco doesn't tell her who I am with I should be fine."

"I don't think he has yet but he's terrified of her so good luck."

"Thanks. I'm screwed." Ursa rolls her eyes.

"Don't roll your eyes at me." Ursa puts her walls up and focuses on the conversation.

"You alright there Ursa?" Fred asks.

"Yeah, why'd you ask." Ursa replies.

"Cause you were making faces." George says.

"Oh just Severus yelling at me."

"But he's not here." Ron says.

"Right. So apparently when I was a few months old the Dark Lord tried to use Legimency on Severus but the spell accidentally went through me first and linked our minds. If our walls are down we can talk to each other. Even over long distances. He asked where I was and told me my mother is furious that I'm gone. I'm definitely dead when I get home. Severus says Draco hasn't told my mother I am with you as far as he knows."

"Ursa can I talk to you for a second?" Harry asks later. Ursa follows Harry out into the hall. "Why do you trust Snape so much?"

     "What do you mean?"

"You trust him not to tell Voldemort anything."

"He's my godfather. He wouldn't do anything that could possibly harm me, physically or emotionally." Harry sighs and walks upstairs.

"I meant to ask you if you knew Harry knows you're a Death Eater."

"Yes I know. He saw Karkaroff accuse me at his trial in the Pensieve." Snape replies.

     "How's my mother."

"You may not live to see the new year."

     "That bad?"

"I've known Narcissa since I was eleven and I've only seen her this angry once before. She's angrier than she was this morning so I think Draco told her."

"Do I want to know what happened before?"

"Ted and Andromeda's relationship was revealed."

"Oh shit." Ursa sighs and goes back to the dining room, where the adults sit, Tonks and Lupin recently arrived. She plops down in a chair.

"You okay there?" Mrs Weasley asks.

"No, my mother is going to kill me." Ursa replies.

     "Narcissa's angry?" Sirius questions.

"Furious. Apparently Severus has only seen her this angry once before... when Ted and Andromeda's relationship was revealed." Sirius tries to hold back laughter but fails.

"You are dead. Completely dead. She is going to kill you, find some way to bring you back and kill you again."

"Thanks for the words of encouragement Sirius." Ursa says with a glare. "I didn't realize you were still home then."

"You're welcome." Sirius says with a smirk. "I was 13 or 14 when that happened. The first big disappointment of our generation."

"I take it you were the second."

"Yep. Well getting sorted into Gryffindor kinda made me a disappointment but leaving was worse."

"I'm just glad I ended up in Slytherin. My father literally told me not to bother coming home if I wasn't."

     "That sounds like Lucius alright."

"We were all expecting me to be in Slytherin. I mean I'm a pureblood Malfoy and Black, sarcastic, and a Dark Witch."

"Dumbledore told us your family knows about your transformations." Mrs Weasley says. "Do the other kids know?"

"No. Draco is the only one my age that knows and that's only because he caught me once." Ursa replies. "I don't really plan on telling them unless they see it. I don't want them to look at me differently. It's hard enough being a Malfoy and Dark Witch and their friend."

"Do your parents know anything else?" Tonks asks.

"They know I am more powerful and about talking to magical birds things. They don't know the extent of my power. Draco knows about everything except my connection with Severus."

"So they don't know about the wandless magic?"

"Correct. Although they almost did but I was able to pass it off as a fluke. I blocked a hex without an incantation, wand, or doing the wand motion."

"You can do that?" Lupin asks.

     "Need proof?"

"I want to see that." Tonks says.

"Then someone, I don't know, shoot a Tickling Jinx at me or something." The adults look at each other before Tonks finally gets her wand. She shoots a Tickling Jinx at Ursa and Ursa just raises her hand. The spell hits her shield and it disappears. "I don't know how to make it rebound yet and I can't block all spells." The adults look at her in shock. "How many times do people have to be told I am powerful before they believe it?"

"You should have seen her with that boggart that was in the drawing room desk." Lupin says. "Never seen a boggart banishing like that. She managed to get it to go into another box."

"And sealed it with a Permanent Sticking Charm and vanished the box. Took a few times to get it to a form I could banish."

     "What?"

"Well first it took the form of my family's dead bodies, then my friends saying they were never really my friends. The final one was the Dark Lord about to kill my family because of my friends. I am extremely protective of my family. I had to remember it was a boggart. I almost used the Killing Curse myself."

"Can I talk to you?" Lupin asks Ursa after lunch.

"Sure." Ursa says and follows Lupin into the living room.

"I know from experience what you're going through with hiding your transformations from you friends."

     "Except your secret was worse."

"Well yes. But from experience, they would rather you tell them and not find out themselves."

"I don't know if they could ever figure it out. It's not like Lycanthropy where there are signs. There are no books on it except for one in the Restricted Section that has a paragraph on it."

     "Ursa..."

"I know Lupin. I should tell them. Im scared they'll look at me differently or it will get out past them. My own girlfriend doesn't even know."

"I know it's scary. If they are truly your friends they won't tell."

"I've never had real friends so I don't know if they are. I told you about my boggarts. I'm terrified they aren't really my friends."

"They are Ursa. They are real friends. Do you think we would have let you in here if they didn't show they all trusted you? They trust you. You need to trust them. Also call me Remus."
