Chapter 13

Ursa wakes up before everyone else and quietly puts a cloak on. She quietly sneaks down the stairs and raises her hood. Kreacher is waiting for her outside the room. Ursa takes Kreacher's hand and he disapparates them to entrance of Knockturn Alley.

"Is Miss Ursa sure this is safe?" Kreacher asks in a whisper.

"Yes Kreacher." Ursa whispers back as she releases his hand. They go down the mostly deserted street, a few drunks still stumbling around. They arrive at a store and Ursa knocks on the door. A man unlocks and opens the door and Ursa pushes her hood back enough so the man can see her face.

"Miss Malfoy." The man says. "Come in." The man steps to the side and let's Ursa in. Ursa steps inside and lowers her hood.

"Thank you for agreeing to meet me so early Mr Mulpepper." Ursa says.

"Anything for one of my biggest customers." Mr Mulpepper replies. "Now what can I get for you?" Ursa hands him a list and he scans it. "Hm. Making some Wolfsbane are we? A large batch."

      "Yes."

Mr Mulpepper speaks as he starts gathering the ingredients. "Well that would explain why you wanted to come in secret."

"One of the reasons. I am currently in trouble with my parents and left three days ago. I've been hiding out and did not want them to possibly see me."

Mr Mulpepper notices Kreacher. "I thought your family lost their elf."

"We did." Ursa replies. "He belongs to a friend."

"Letting you borrow it for transportation?"

"Yes." Mr Mulpepper walks back up to the counter.

"Alright that will be 100 Galleons. Would you like to put it on your family's tab?"

"No. I have the money here." Ursa gives him the money and he gives her the bag of ingredients.

"Remember to be careful with that Wolfsbane. Very poisonous."

"If you could keep the contents of my purchase between us, that would be great."

Later that morning, Lucius walks into Mr Mulpepper's. "Ah Mr Malfoy!" Mr Mulpepper says. "What can I do for you? I just got-"

"I am not buying today." Lucius interrupts. "I need information. Have you seen my daughter?"

"Yeah. She asked to meet in private at five this morning. Needed some ingredients. Said she left your house and was hiding."

"Do you know where she is staying?"

"Well she had a house-elf with her. Said it was a friends. She disapparated with the elf after I gave her the ingredients. That's all I know."

"Thank you." Lucius leaves the store and waits for Narcissa to come out of Borgin and Burkes.

"Any sign of her?" Narcissa asks Lucius.

"She apparently met with Mr Mulpepper at five this morning." Lucius says. "She had a friend's house-elf with her and disapparated."

"So she's probably not here." Narcissa sighs. "Borgin saw a hooded figure go into Mr Mulpepper's around five. It must have been her."

"Odds are high she's not in the Diagon Alley area."

"I cannot think of anywhere else Severus knows about that she would be even remotely safe at. Let alone with a house-elf. This is all my fault." Lucius wraps his arms around Narcissa and disapparates them to their room before Narcissa can start crying. "I made her run."

"We'll find her Cissa. She's a powerful witch and can handle herself. Severus says she's safe and will be at King's Cross to get her wand. We shouldn't worry unless she doesn't show up."

"But we have her wand! She can't do magic without it." Lucius wipes Narcissa's tears.

"She's powerful and well trained. It wouldn't surprise me if she knew some Muggle self defense or can do some magic wandlessly."

"I shouldn't have touched her. I should've never given her to Bella."

"We all make mistakes Cissa. She knows we love her. Come on. It's lunch time." They go downstairs to the dining room where Bellatrix and Draco already are eating.

     "Anything?" Draco asks.

"She's not in Knockturn Alley either." Narcissa says. "The closest we got was she was at Mulpepper's with a house elf early this morning."

"We will check Hogsmeade this afternoon." Lucius says.

"Has anyone seen Ursa today?" Mr Weasley asks that evening.

"No she was already up when I woke up." Hermione says.

"I knew it was a bad idea to let her stay here." The dark skinned man from the day before says. "She probably went home to tell them everything she heard and talked about."

"No. Lyra's still here." Ron says. "She wouldn't have left Lyra."

"She rarely goes anywhere without Lyra." Hermione says. "Lyra was with us when we got our school supplies, she's always with us when we're outside at school."

     "Kreacher!" Sirius yells.

"Yes Master?" Kreacher says when he walks into the room.

"Do you know where Ursa is?"

     "Yes."

     "Where is she?"

"Miss Ursa wishes to be left alone."

     "Tell me Kreacher."

"Miss Ursa ordered Kreacher not to tell. Kreacher is allowed to say she is still in the house."

"Damn it. I forget Kreacher has to listen to her."

     "Why?" Mrs Weasley asks.

     "She's a Black."

     "Right. I forgot her mum's a Black."

"Blood traitor dares speak of Miss Cissy." Kreacher mutters.

"Enough Krea-" Sirius starts before Kreacher disapparates. "-cher."

Kreacher returns a minute later. "Miss Ursa wishes to know when dinner will be ready."

     "Hour." Mrs Weasley replies.

Ursa comes into the dining room halfway through dinner. She sets a open crate on the table. "Sorry I'm late." Ursa says as she sits.

"Where have you been hiding?" The dark skinned man asks.

     "Who are you?" Ursa asks.

"Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt. Answer the question."

"I've been in the attic. I've been working."

     "On what?"

"You are suspicious of me aren't you?"

     "Do you blame me?"

"Not at all. I've been brewing a potion. Well a large batch of a potion."

     "What potion?"

"Wolfsbane." Ursa says as she serves herself. "I learned it at Ilvermorny and Severus helped me perfect it last year."

"Why would you make that?" Lupin asks.

Ursa shrugs. "I know it's ingredients are expensive and the potion is difficult to make."

"She likes helping others." Ron says.

"Are you sure you're a Malfoy?" Sirius asks. "'Helping others' doesn't sound like Narcissa or Lucius."

Ursa chuckles. "Some days I question it too Sirius. Like Ron said, I like helping others. I had the money on me for ingredients and I also want you all to trust me."

     "Why?" Kingsley questions.

"Well everyone here are friends or family of my friends." Ursa motions to Tonks and Sirius. "And well those two are actually my family albeit disowned."

"We told you, she's not like her family." Harry says. "She has a heart."

"Hey my family has hearts. You just rarely see it because of your blood status. May I remind you it took three men to hold my father back when the Dark Lord was torturing me. Him and my mother love Draco and me more than anything. Draco is my closest best friend."

"That sounds right for Narcissa." Sirius says. "Cold in public but extremely caring in private."

"I always meant to ask why you don't look like the rest of your family." Harry says.

"'Cause she got the good genes." Sirius says, causing Ursa to chuckle.

"I got more of the Black family physical traits and Draco got more of the Malfoy family." Ursa explains. "Other than my mother, Blacks are known for their dark hair and eyes."

     "And good looks." Sirius adds.

"Yeah that too. I look more like my mother's family."

"If your hair was curly you'd kinda look like my mum." Tonks says.

"Nooo." Ursa groans. "That means I would look kinda like Bella. I'm just glad I didn't get the curly hair. Too much upkeep, even with magic. One of the things I'm glad I got from my father."

After dinner, Ursa leaves the room and the others talk. "I wouldn't trust that potion." Mrs Weasley says as she looks at the crate and Ursa stops. "I say dump them."

"She would never poison anyone!" Hermione exclaims as Lupin picks up a vial from the crate. "She is a kind and thoughtful girl!" Ursa smiles softly.

"The potions look perfect Molly." Lupin says.

"She's a Malfoy!" Mrs Weasley exclaims. "Why do you trust her?"

"Because she is my friend!" Hermione says.

"She's our friend." Ron says. "She defends Hermione every time her brother calls her a Mudblood."

"She hits or hexes him every time." Harry adds. "She refuses to say it. She spent two weeks in the Gryffindor dorms because it was the password for the Slytherin common room and no one would let her in. She helps Hagrid every weekend. Hagrid trusts her enough to leave Fang with her. When you sent Hermione a small egg for Easter, I sent Ursa a letter about it and she got Hermione an egg bigger than the ones you gave Ron and me."

"She spent a lot of money and spent all day brewing potions for a person she barely knows just because she knew it was hard for him to get it." Ron says.

"I never thought I would see you defend a Malfoy, Harry." Sirius says.

"We don't care that she's a Malfoy." Harry says.

"She's not like her family." Fred says.

"She doesn't believe the same stuff." George says.

"I still don't trust her." Mrs Weasley says.

"You don't have to Molly." Lupin says. "But I don't think the kids are going to let you be rude to her. I am not going to let you be rude to her. These potions are perfect." Ursa smiles brightly. "This must have cost her a fortune to make this much. At least 150 Galleons." Ursa pops her head back in.

"100." Ursa says. "Mulpepper gives my family a discount."

"How much did you hear?" Lupin asks as Ursa steps back into the room.

"You mean did I hear Mrs Weasley say I am the enemy and to dump the perfect potions and all of my friends defend me?" Ursa looks at her friends and they smile at her. "Yeah, I did." Tears of happiness fill Ursa's eyes.

     "You okay?" Hermione asks.

"Yeah." Ursa replies as tears fall. "Happy tears. I never thought I would have friends. Let alone ones that would defend me to their family."

"Of course we'd defend you." Fred says as he walks over and hugs her. The others, except Ginny, walk over and hug her one by one.

Hermione gently shakes Ursa. "Hm?" Ursa groans.

"You were crying in your sleep." Hermione whispers.

     "Oh sorry."

     "What were you dreaming about?"

     "The graveyard."

"Scoot." Hermione says as she lifts Ursa's covers.

     "Huh?"

"You heard me." Ursa scoots over and Hermione climbs into her bed.

     "What are you-"

"Sleeping. I remember you said it helps. Go to sleep."

     "Thanks."

Ursa smiles as she walks into Walburga's old room. She closes the door behind her and Buckbeak looks at her and bows. "Noble Phoenix." Buckbeak says.

"You must be Buckbeak." Ursa says as she bows back. "I am a friend of Hagrid's." Fang walks over and Ursa pets him.

     "Friend of Hagrid?"

     "Yes. He misses you."

     "You understand me?"

"Yes. I can understand you. You know it was my brother you hurt."

     "He deserved it."

"I am not disagreeing with you. He had it coming."

"Are you going to turn me in?"

"Of course not. I just came to meet you."

     "You confuse me."

     "Why?"

"I feel a Noble Phoenix but I see a human." Ursa smiles.

"I can turn into a phoenix if I fall from a height. The other hippogriffs at Hogwarts can feel the phoenix in me too. They called me 'Noble Phoenix' the first time they met me too."

Mrs Weasley bursts into the bedroom the kids are hanging out in with laundry. She starts sorting the laundry into two piles. "Ron, I'll have to get you some new pajamas." She says. "These are too short. You're growing like a weed. What color do you want?"

"Get him red and gold to match his badge." George says and Ron glares at him.

"Match his what?" Mrs Weasley questions.

"His badge." Fred says. "His lovely, shiny new prefect's badge." Ron holds up his badge and Mrs Weasley shrieks.

"I don't believe it! Oh Ron how wonderful! That's everyone in the family."

"What are Fred and I, next-door neighbors." George asks, causing Ursa to chuckle. Mrs Weasley pushes past George and hugs Ron. The twins sit on one of the beds and Ursa jumps on them. She lays across their laps and they chuckle. The trio and Mrs Weasley talk in the background.

"Don't worry boys." Ursa says. "I'm not a prefect either and my parents aren't happy about it. Draco is though."

     "Really?" Fred questions.

     "Draco?" George asks.

"No other fifth year boy is smart enough except maybe Zabini." Ursa says. "The rest are idiots."

"Any idea why you're not a prefect?" Fred asks.

"Well maybe it has something to do with the fact I cause Severus trouble or they don't want siblings as prefects. Severus is the one who chooses."

"But you're his favorite." George says.

"I know. I plan on interrogating him and giving him an earful."
