Chapter 12
Mrs Weasley removes the cloth and sinks into an armchair. She springs up in disgust as she sat on the dead rats. "I think we'll deal with those after lunch." Mrs Weasley says as she points at a windowed cabinet with various objects in it. The doorbell rings again and Mrs Weasley sighs. "Stay here." She says as she picks up the bag of rats. "I'll bring up some sandwiches. Ursa."
"I got her." Ursa says before following Mrs Weasley out. She deals with Walburga before going back into the drawing room. She goes over to the cabinets while the other talk. She looks through the glass and smiles when she sees an ornate crystal bottle with a large opal set in the stopper. "Dragon blood. Wonder what kind."
"Hello Kreacher." Fred says as he closes the door with a snap. Ursa turns around.
"Kreacher did not see Young Master." Kreacher says. He says something Ursa cannot hear.
"What was that?" George says.
"Kreacher said nothing." Kreacher says before mumbling something again. Kreacher walks in the direction of Ursa and she hears his muttering. "And then there's the Mudblood, standing there bold as brass, if my mistress knew she would cry."
"Hello Kreacher." Hermione says.
"The Mudblood speaks to Kreacher as if she is my friend. If Kreacher's mistress saw him-"
"Don't call her a Mudblood." Ron and Ginny interrupt.
"It doesn't matter." Hermione says. "He's not in his right mind. He doesn't know-"
"He knows exactly what he is saying Hermione." Ursa replies. "Stop kidding yourself."
"What do you want anyways?" George asks.
"Kreacher is cleaning." Kreacher replies.
"The truth Kreacher." Ursa says in warning.
"Making sure Master and the blood-traitors and the brats don't throw out the tapestry. Seven centuries it's been in the family, Miss Ursa."
"I know Kreacher. Your mistress probably put a Permanent Sticking Charm on it if there wasn't one already. I will make sure they do not throw it out. It is still important to my mother and family even if it is not important to Sirius."
"Master was a nasty ungrateful brat who broke his mother's heart-"
"My mother didn't have a heart." Sirius snaps from the doorway. "She kept herself alive out of pure spite."
"Whatever Master says." Kreacher says with a bow.
"Every time you show up while we're cleaning, you sneak something to your room so we can't throw it out."
"Ungrateful little-" Kreacher starts before Ursa interrupts him.
"Enough from both of you." Ursa snaps before speaking politely. "Kreacher please leave the room."
"Yes, Miss Ursa." Kreacher bows to Ursa. "Kreacher lives to serve the Noble House of Black." Kreacher mutters to himself on his way out. "They say he's a murderer too-"
"Keep muttering and I will be a murderer!" Sirius says irritatedly and slams the door on Kreacher.
"Sirius!" Ursa snaps.
"Sirius he's not right in the head." Hermione says as Ursa turns back to the cabinets. "I don't think he realizes we can hear him."
"He's been alone too long." Sirius says. "Careful there Ursa."
"Could I keep a few things?" Ursa asks. "Uncursed things obviously."
Sirius sighs. "I guess. Just be careful. And cover that infernal tapestry."
"Can I borrow someone's wand?" Ursa asks. Sirius looks at her with unease and Hermione hands her wand to Ursa without thought. "Thanks."
Ursa covers the tapestry as Mrs Weasley walks in with lunch. "Come on Ursa or there won't be any food left." Mrs Weasley says.
"I'm not hungry but thank you." Ursa replies as she uses magic to clean the dust from the cabinet. "I'll start checking things for curses." Ursa starts going through the items, using magic to lift them and check them. She sorts things into different piles.
"What are the piles?" Mrs Weasley asks after everyone finishes lunch. "And why are you using magic? You're underage. And whose wand it that?"
"My wand." Hermione says.
Ursa points to each pile and names them. "Completely safe, jinxes and hexes, curses, not sure, and what I want to look through later. Careful on the 'what I want to look through' pile cause there are some cursed items in there. Yes I am underage but I don't care." Sirius picks up a silver snuffbox from the jinxed pile and it bites him. "I said that was the jinxed pile!"
"Must be Wartcap powder in there." Sirius says as his hand develops a gross crusty covering on it. He taps his wand on his hand and his skin returns to normal. "Ursa?"
"Oh old Wartcap powder?" Ursa says. "Yes please." She carefully takes the box from him and sets it in her pile. Throughout the day she finds various ancient seals and interesting writing on boxes that she keeps. Later she spots Sirius trying to take a gold ring bearing the Black Family crest from Kreacher. "Kreacher, Sirius, knock it off!"
"But-" Sirius starts.
"Kreacher bring me that ring please." Sirius sighs and lets go. Kreacher brings the ring over to Ursa.
"Miss Ursa won't throw it out right?" Kreacher asks.
"I will not Kreacher. I promise. Now please leave the room."
"Thank you Miss Ursa. Kreacher lives to serve the Noble House of Black." Sirius glares as Kreacher as Kreacher leaves before turning to Ursa.
"Why are you so nice to him?" Sirius asks and Ursa rolls her eyes.
"Because he's nice to me."
"Why does he listen to you?" Fred whispers.
"I'm a Black." Ursa whispers back. "By blood at least."
"So Ursa's mentioned she's your first cousin." Ursa hears Harry quietly to Sirius.
"Sadly." Sirius says.
"So is her other first cousin that died your brother?"
"Yes. Regulus. Stupid idiot joined the Death Eaters."
"Really?" Harry says in shock.
"I told you this Harry." Ursa says.
"Haven't you seen enough of this house to see what kind of wizards my family were?" Sirius says before motioning to Ursa and whispers. "And still are."
"But Ursa's good." Harry whispers.
"She's still a Dark Witch." Sirius whispers. "Malfoys and Blacks always have been. Her parents are. My aunt and uncle were. My grandparents. My parents believed the same things her family does. They didn't go as far as her's did, serving Voldemort."
"She was kinda forced to be a Dark Witch." Ursa snorts.
"Who told you that?" Ursa asks. "I was encouraged to study Dark Arts. And I did. I was forced into training."

That evening during a meeting, Ursa goes to the drawing room and plays the piano. "But now there's-" she starts to sing before the twins burst into the room and join her, singing out of tune.
"NO WHERE TO HIDE
SINCE YOU PUSHED MY LOVE ASIDE
I'M OUT OF MY HEAD
HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU!"
Downstairs, Snape hears Ursa singing and speaks once the twins interrupt her. "Is that Ursa Malfoy?" Snape asks, extremely confused.
"They're going to set off my mother if they keep that up." Sirius says.
"Yes." Mrs Weasley says. "She showed up here yesterday. Thought the place was abandoned."
"That's odd. No one told me she left the manor."
"Why would anyone tell you Snivellus?" Sirius asks.
"Will someone tell them to quiet down?" Lupin says.
"Speaking of Malfoy," Mad-Eye says. "What are we going to do about her?"
Ursa stops playing and the rest of the kids join. "So who is in that meeting down there?" Ursa asks.
"I don't think we should tell you." Harry says. "Given your family."
"Completely fair."
"She knows most of them since they were here yesterday." Ron says. "Except for Snape and Mc-" Hermione interrupts him by shoving him.
"Shit. Severus is here? He could tell my parents I'm here."
"The location is protected by a Fidelius Charm. Only Dumbledore can tell people the location."
"Thank Lord. Wait how did I see it then?"
Mrs Weasley knocks on the doorframe. "Dinner time." She says and the twins disapparate downstairs. The rest of them wash their hands before going downstairs. Snape is talking to a dark skinned man when they walk in and Snape's eyes snap to Ursa.
"Hey Uncle Severus." Ursa says.
"Uncle..." Lupin trails off. The adults look at Ursa or Snape in confusion. Snape ends his conversation and walks to Ursa. He grabs her arm as he walks by and drags Ursa out of the room. Mrs Weasley tries to yell at him but Ursa shakes her head. Snape lets go of her in the hall.
"What are you doing here Ursa?" Snape snaps.
"Nice to see you too Severus." Ursa replies.
"Answer the question."
"Well I got in deep trouble with my mother and she basically told the psychopath I was her's until we went back to school so I left."
"You got your mother that- how did you manage to get Narcissa that angry?" Ursa explains what happened with Lucius at the party, Narcissa finding out about her friends, and Lucius finding out she was seen with her friends. "Lord how are you still alive? How did you find this place?"
"Walburga's my great-aunt. I came here with my mother."
Ursa starts walking back to the dining room. "Don't walk away from me."
"But I'm hungry."
Snape follows Ursa back into the dining room. "Get your things Ursa." He says. "You're coming with me."
"I don't want to go back there." Ursa argues.
"To my house Ursa."
"Don't you have to go to Hogwarts in the next few days. I have to go to King's Cross to get my wand from my mother."
"She's fine here Severus." Mrs Weasley says.
"Yeah Severus." Ursa says and Snape glares at her.
"Fine." Snape says with an irritated sigh. "I am telling your parents you're safe and you owe me for covering."
"I figured you would." Snape rolls his eyes and leaves.
"Why'd you call him 'Uncle Severus' or his name?" Sirius asks.
"He's my godfather." Ursa replies.
"That's why he was confused no one told him you left home." Mr Weasley says.
"Yes. He probably thought my parents would have told him. I'm kinda surprised they didn't."
"She's definitely his favorite." Ron says. "You should see the stuff she gets away with in his class." Ursa chuckles.
"Yeah, gotten them out of trouble once or twice."
"One of the first days she talked back to him and only had one detention for it." Harry says. "And she managed to get Slytherin points at the same time."
"Apparently I got off easy since all he made me do was scrub cauldrons."
"Wait," Sirius says. "You're Slytherin?"
"Of course I am." Ursa replies. "I'm a Malfoy and a Black."
"I though you were like me." Sirius says. "I'm surprised they made friends with a Slytherin."
"Don't worry." Harry says. "We are too. Especially a Malfoy."
"Well it started because I asked Hermione to tutor me in Charms-" Ursa starts.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Sirius interrupts. "You asked a Muggle-born?" Hermione and Ursa chuckle.
"We told you." Harry says. "She isn't like her family."
"Hermione was the only person in the whole school that gave me a chance to prove I wasn't like my family."
"I was?" Hermione questions.
"Yes. Actually the first person ever."
"Wow."
"I gave her a chance when Hermione took us to the kitchens and I saw her with Dobby." Ron says. "She was so nice to him. Apparently they were friends."
"How did you get points while talking back?" Lupin asks.
"I pointed out he labeled a potion wrong on a board." Ursa says. "Had the Antidote for Uncommon Poisons labeled as the one for common poisons."
"She helped us prank him too." Fred said.
"She enchanted one of our smoke bombs to make his robes change colors." George says.
"All we saw was bright pink, red, and rainbow." Ursa says with a chuckle. "Totally worth losing experimenting privileges for a week."
"She's also the only one he doesn't give detention to for being sarcastic." Hermione says. "Well it takes a lot of sarcasm."
"'You're late Miss Malfoy.'" Ursa says in an over exaggerated tone before switching to normal sarcasm. "'Really? I hadn't noticed. It's a good thing I decided to run to class today.'"
"I like this girl." Sirius says.
"'Experimenting privileges?'" Lupin questions.
"He lets me use the lab to experiment with potions." Ursa says. "It's why I am the top of our class. And it's no surprise you like me based off that Sirius, he's told me a bit about you and your friends tormenting him. Specifically you and James."
"My dad?" Harry questions.
"Yeah. Also known as two of the pains in McGonagall's ass that she secretly adored. She's told me a few things you did."
"Why would Minnie tell you about us?" Sirius asks.
"She gives me private lessons in Transfiguration and because I am friends with Harry. But with Severus it was mainly the Whomping Willow and Shrieking Shack incident."
"Wait so you know I-" Lupin starts before Ursa interrupts.
"Yes I know you are a werewolf. Draco told me about his third year plus I could tell just by looking at you. There was a full moon two nights ago. You looked tired plus the scars."
"Did we forget to mention she's a know-it-all like Hermione but sometimes worse." Ron says and Ursa glares at him. "And kinda terrifying at times."
"Hey at least I didn't go mad from being friendless." The adults look at her in confusion. "I had no friends in the States so I spent my time reading. I excel in DADA and Potions and I know a lot of Dark Arts."
"Yeah, Dark Arts." Harry says. "Know about that one personally."
"You insulted my mother!" Ursa exclaims. "Even Dobby told you it was your own damn fault."
"So you're okay with the werewolf thing?" Lupin asks.
"I am sitting at a table of 'dirty-blood' and 'blood-traitors' and Hagrid is one of my favorite teachers. Do you really think I care? As long as you aren't like Greyback."
"He is not like that monster." Sirius says.
"Then I don't care if you're a werewolf."
After dinner, the kids except Harry and Ursa go upstairs. "So we decided you should know what is going on." Lupin says.
"Why would you tell me?" Ursa says. "I'm the enemy, aren't I?"
"Dumbledore and Severus trust you." Sirius says. "I don't for the record. I know your parents."
"Fair enough. I honestly didn't expect any of you to trust me."
"Dumbledore formed this group to fight Voldemort."
"So the Order of the Phoenix."
"How do you know about that?" Lupin asks.
"I was taught a lot about the war. I know the Dark Lord's rebirth didn't go to plan. I may have been unconscious for most of their battle but I know Harry wasn't supposed to survive. I was supposed to survive, barely."
"Do you know anything about Voldemort's plans?" Sirius asks.
"No. I wasn't allowed in those meetings. Well the ones held at the manor."
"What do you know?"
"That the Dark Lord is trying to recruit me, as well as others, and the names of all the Death Eaters."
"We think we know all of them." Lupin says before handing Ursa a list.
"My father, MacNair, Crabbe, Goyle, Nott, Pettigrew, Avery. Missing Jugson and Corbin Yaxley. Alecto & Amycus Carrow. Horrid siblings. Anyone looked for Karkaroff?"
"Dead." Sirius answers.
"That's what I figured. Thorfinn Rowle and Travers. Have you looked into Greyback?"
"Yes." Sirius says. "Do you know where Voldemort is?"
"No, my father won't tell me where he goes for meetings."
"So, they are trying to recruit you?" Lupin asks.
"I am powerful and trained in Dark Arts." Ursa says. "Trained to serve him."
"As Dumbledore told us."
"I know he is trying to rebuild his army. I also know Fudge is still denying that the Dark Lord is back and my father is definitely fueling those flames. Trying to discredit Dumbledore and Harry. I know the Dark Lord is also after something. Some weapon."
"Yes, we are aware of that." Lupin says. "We have been protecting what-"
"I think that is enough." Mrs Weasley says. "She is a child and the enemy. You've given her more information than you should." Ursa frowns and looks at her lap.
"She's not the enemy!" Harry says. "She's a friend. She doesn't believe that stuff her family does."
"It's alright Harry." Ursa says before standing. "I am the enemy." Ursa leaves the room and goes upstairs. She finds the drawing room and sits on the couch. She pulls her legs up to her chest and wraps her arms around them. She rests her forehead on her knees and holds back tears. Harry quietly follows her upstairs and sits next to her.
"You alright?" Harry asks and Ursa lets the tears fall.
"Yeah." Ursa replies.
"Ursa I may not know you as well as Hermione but I can tell you're not okay."
"I want them to like me but they just see me as the enemy."
"So did I but now we're friends."
"They know my family and their past more than you do." Ursa raises her head. "And when you finally gave me a chance, you didn't know my father was a Death Eater and that my whole family supports the Dark Lord. They do know. I hate living under my family's shadow."
"I know you do."
"It hurts."
"Mrs Weasley shouldn't've said that."
"They have every right to see me as the enemy. I knew they did but it hurts when it's said to my face."
"Well Dumbledore trusts you so I do. Well more than I already did."
"Thanks. I feel better now."
Ursa grabs her bag from the girl's room and goes back to her pile. She picks up a box and sets it in front of her. She reaches in her bag and pulls out multiple books. She spends time translating the text on the box. Mrs Weasley knocks on the doorframe a few hours later. "It's bedtime." She says.
"Yes ma'am." Ursa says and she packs up her books. She goes back to the girl's room and once the girls are asleep she slips out and back to the drawing room. "Damn I wish I had my wand." Ursa says. "Kreacher."
Kreacher apparates into the room. "Yes Miss Ursa?"
"Could you turn a few lights on please?"
"Of course Miss Ursa." Kreacher snaps and the gas lights spring to life. "Anything else Miss Ursa?"
"Yes, is there a place in the house where I would be able to brew a potion in private?"
"Kreacher thinks the attic would work."
"Good. I may need you to take me somewhere early tomorrow morning."
