Chapter 6: Father/Daughter Time

AN: Rewritten 10/19

Lucius leans against the doorframe as he watches Ursa fight training dummies. He claps when Ursa finishes. "I see you are skilled in dueling." Lucius says.

Ursa spins around and shoots a spell at Lucius out of reflex. Luckily he moves out of the way. "Sorry, reflex. Do not do that! You scared me." Ursa says.

"I'm sorry. Why is that a reflex?"

"Yes I am skilled in dueling. Beatrice taught me a lot and Ilvermorny had a dueling club. As for the reflex, the Malfoy and Black names are looked down upon in the States. I was attacked for no reason at least once a week."

"What are you doing down here?"

"I was trying to practice a curse but got frustrated so I took my frustration out on the dummies."

     "What curse?"

Ursa motions to a book sitting on a nearby table. "Expelling Curse. I've been working on it for a week."

"Ah yes, the base spell for one of your aunt's favorite spells." Lucius says as he reads the book.

"Cruciatus Curse?" Ursa asks with a furrowed brow.

     "No, Blasting Curse." Lucius replies.

"Of course it includes fire." Ursa chuckles.

     "Where are you messing up?"

     "No idea."

"Show me." Lucius leans back against the table.

Ursa points her wand at the wooden dummy. "Expulso!" A small burst a blue light shoots from Ursa's wand and hits the dummy. The dummy cracks and a few small pieces fall from it. "See?"

"The second 's' sound. You're emphasizing 'puls' when you need to emphasize 'pul'." Lucius says. "Try again. Expulso."

"Expulso!" Ursa casts and a burst of blue light shoots from her wand. It hits the dummy and it explodes. "I did it!"

"Good." Lucius draws his wand and repairs the dummy. "Try it again."

     "Expulso!" The dummy explodes again.

Lucius switches out dummies after he repairs it. The new one is heavy metal. "Alright try it on the powerful dummy."

"Expulso!" Part of the dummy explodes and Ursa stumbles back.

"That's what I thought." Lucius pushes off the table and walks over to Ursa. He slow circles her. "Straighten your arm." Ursa straightens her arm. "Turn your wrist." Ursa turns her wrist so it is vertical instead of her usual upside down. "Put your weight on your back leg to keep yourself from stumbling." Ursa leans back on her back leg. "Stand up straight, chin up. Try again." Lucius steps back.

"Expulso!" The dummy explodes and Ursa gets pushed back into Lucius. Lucius catches her to keep her from falling.

"Perfect. Other than getting pushed back."

"How do I stop myself from getting pushed back?"

"Practicing the spell. You have the base down, now you need to work on focusing the power. So the power does not bounce back at you. It happens with young witches and wizards."

"Or use the Stickfast Hex on myself."

"You know a lot about Dark Arts don't you?"

     "Yes."

"I hope you are studying the laws concerning Dark Arts too."

"I am. I have The Dark Arts: A Legal Companion upstairs. Though there are not many that effect me since I do not use Dark Arts on anyone. Well other than Draco."

"Did Beatrice ever teach you any of the Unforgivable Curses?" Ursa stays silent. "She did."

"Yeah. Never could get the Cruciatus Curse to work. Could never get the Imperius Curse to work on a person, only animals. Successfully used the Killing Curse on bugs and other small pests."

"You know they are illegal and you should never, ever use them. Promise me you will never use them again."

     "Yes Father. I promise."

"Good. Now, do the curse right five times and we can go get ice cream after dinner."

***

"And where are you two going?" Narcissa asks Lucius and Ursa as they walk into the sitting room and to the Floo Fireplace.

     "Ice cream." Ursa answers.

     "Oh?" Narcissa raises an eyebrow.

"I found her working on a curse she's been working on for a week." Lucius says. "She finally got it so we are getting ice cream to celebrate."

"Alright." Narcissa replies. "Just do not be out too late. Our portkey is early in the morning tomorrow."

"I know Cissa." Lucius says. He kisses Narcissa's cheek before joining Ursa at the fireplace.

Ursa tosses the Floo powder into the fire and the flames turn green. She steps in and speaks. "Diagon Alley." She vanishes and reappears at the Leaky Cauldron. She steps out of the fire and dusts herself off. Lucius steps out a few seconds later. "I really wish there was a cleaner way to travel safely. Or that you would disapparate us."

"Your mother would kill me if I disapparated with you or Draco." Lucius says as he draws his wand and cleans them both. "She worries about splinching."

Lucius holds the back door open for her. "Didn't Dobby disapparate with me a few times?" Ursa asks.

"We made a deal every time." Lucius taps the bricks with his wand and the bricks move to let them through. "And it is rare for splinching to happen with elves disapparating."

Ursa chuckles as they walk through. "Right, 'do not tell your mother and you can have a new book or toy.' I remember that." Ursa chuckles as they pass Twilfitt & Tattings.

     "What is funny?" Lucius asks.

"Twilfitt & Tattings. Where my magic first appeared."

"Protecting your mother, I remember. I remember your aunt was laughing so hard she was on the floor."

     "I have always been protective haven't I?"

"Yes you have. Just based off you, your mother, and your aunt, I think protectiveness is a Black family trait. Actually a Rosier trait. Your grandmother was protective too. She supported your aunt's idea that I needed to win a duel or hold my own against your aunt in order to marry your mother."

"Most of the time I was in trouble at Ilvermorny were because of fights with someone that tried to insult the Malfoys or Blacks."

After they get their ice cream, they sit at a table outside. "Are you excited for school?" Lucius asks.

"And a little nervous." Ursa says. "You know being new and no one knowing who I am. Might be behind."

"You will do fine. You will have Draco and Severus."

Ursa bites her lip in nervousness before speaking. "I wanted... I wanted to tell you that it kind of hurt me when you did not announce me at the party. Made me feel like you were hiding me for shame or something.

Lucius sighs. "I'm sorry. I wanted to talk to you beforehand but I got busy. Your mother told me that your misbehavior at parties was from feeling overwhelmed only an hour or two before the party. I did not want you to get overwhelmed. Trust me, your mother told me off for that and for never mentioning you around the Minister."

     "Yelled or harsh whisper?"

     "Both."

     "So she was furious."

"Big time. I almost thought she was going to make me sleep in a guest room."

Ursa chuckles. "I saw the glare she gave you after the Minister said he did not know you had a daughter."

"I am very sorry for making you feel like I was hiding you." Ursa smiles softly.

"I forgive you. You had a good reason. I just wish you would have told me."

"Despite how it may seem sometimes and how I acted when you arrived, I'm really glad to have you home, Ursa."

"I'm glad to be home. I told Mother that if I knew all it would take to get me sent home was being expelled I would have done it in my first year."

***

"Ready?" Lucius asks as they touch their portkey.

"I hate portk-" Ursa starts before it activates. Everyone twists and flies through the air. The Malfoys land outside the campground. Draco grunts as he lands on his face and Ursa laughs as she, Lucius and Narcissa land gracefully. "First time using a Portkey little brother?"

"No." Draco snaps. "I just was not ready."

     "Sure."

"Stop teasing your brother." Narcissa says as she fixes her hair. "Now let's find our camp."

"Should be far away from this one." Lucius says with sneer, looking at the sign hammered into the ground that reads Weezly.

"Ha." Draco laughs. "They did not even spell their name right."

"Come on let's find our spot children." Narcissa takes their hands.

"Mother, I am not a child." Draco says as he jerks his hand from hers. "I do not need my hand held." Ursa rolls her eyes.

"I know you are not but it is crowded and I do not want to lose you in the crowd."

"Fine." Draco mutters and takes Narcissa's hand. They walk through the crowded campground until they find their large space. Lucius draws his wand from his cane and sets the tent up with magic.

"I thought we were supposed to use as little magic as possible." Ursa says.

"We are far from where any Muggle should be." Lucius replies. Ursa goes into the tent and sets her bag down next to a chair. She plops back into the chair and sighs.

"Why did you bring stuff?" Draco asks. "Come with me to Goyle's tent." Ursa pulls out a book.

"I think I am good with a book." Ursa replies.

     "Nerd." Draco says.

"Draco!" Narcissa exclaims as Draco starts to leave. Ursa lazily draws her wand and shoots a Tripping Jinx at Draco. Ursa chuckles as Draco trips and falls. Narcissa and Lucius both chuckle. Draco looks at Narcissa and Lucius, expecting them to chastise Ursa. "What?"

"You are not going to yell at her?"

     "You deserved it." Lucius says.

"I am going to see if Crabbe and Goyle are here yet." Draco leaves the tent.

"Good job Cub." Narcissa says. "That was funny."

"Thank you." Ursa replies as she opens her book.

"Only you would bring a book, Ursa." Lucius says.

"Draco was right Father, I am a nerd." Ursa smiles before focusing on her book. Narcissa sighs and shakes her head with a smile.

"If you are going to read, at least get some fresh air while you do." Narcissa says.

"Yes Mother." Ursa stands and goes outside. She summons a chair and sits. A salesperson Apparates in front of her.

"Hello ma'am, could I interest you in some Omnioculars?" They say. "You can replay, slow down everything, and they-"

"I know what Omnioculars are, do you know who's tent you are at?" Ursa says. Lucius walks out and the salesperson realizes where they are.

"I am so sorry Miss. Of course a pureblood like you would know what Omnioculars are."

"What is going on here?" Lucius asks as he walks over.

     "Selling Omnioculars sir."

     "We do not need any."

     "Yes sir." The salesperson leaves.
