Chapter 29: Centaurs, Hippogriff Love, and Passwords
"Ursa I have an odd question." Harry says as they're sitting at lunch one day. "How does your house function without Dobby?"
Ursa chuckles. "We have multiple elves." Ursa says. "All you basically did is make it so we have to get things ourselves and clean our own rooms. Which we do with magic."
"Then why'd your dad make a big deal about losing him?"
"Because he lost his status symbol. Dobby only went to some places with him to show off the fact that he had a house-elf."
"What about the other elves?" Hermione asks. "Is your family cruel to them too?"
"No, they are like the elves here. You don't see them but you know they're there. You have to see them to be cruel to them. I don't think I've even seen one of them. I don't think they are all that bright. They just keep on doing what they've been doing for the last who knows how many years. I assume they have children and teach them."
"What about when you go into the kitchen?" Ron asks.
"We have two kitchens. One upstairs that's basically there to look nice and available if we ever wanted to cook. Not like any of us know how although I do plan on learning at some point. Then there's one downstairs somewhere that is actually used."
"You have two kitchens?"
"You seem to forget I'm bloody rich."
"Right. We do forget. You don't flaunt it like Draco."
"True."
"How do you choose meals and things?" Hermione asks.
"No idea. I think my mother does that or something."

Ursa walks into the common room wearing tight a shirt and a pair of leggings. "Where exactly do you think you're going dressed like that?" Draco asks.
"Forbidden forrest." Ursa replies as she sits next to him.
"What! Why?"
Ursa answers while putting her boots on. "There's a creature that needs help in a place too small for Hagrid."
"Why are you wearing that?"
"So my clothes don't snag on anything."

Ursa kneels down in front of the mother fox. She holds her hand out and waits for the fox to nuzzle against her hand. The mother then steps back and lets Ursa touch the pups. "Poor little guy." Ursa draws her wand and trails it down the pup's leg, healing it. The mother fox growls and herds her pups deeper into the den. "That's not good." Ursa crawls backwards out of the den. She turns around just in time to see a wolf jump at her. She braces herself, closing her eyes, and hears the twang of a bow string. She hears a thud and the wolf whimper. Ursa opens her eyes to see the wolf running off with an arrow in its side. She stands and looks around but doesn't see anyone. "Whoever that was, thank you. Though now I need to hunt down that wolf unless you plan on killing it." Ursa draws her wand again. "Lumos." The tip of her wand lights and she follows the trail of paw prints and drops of blood in the mud. She sees the wolf and points her wand at it. "Nox, Stupefy!" The wolf drops to the ground unconscious. Ursa slowly moves towards it, making sure it is actually unconscious. When she is sure it's unconscious, she points her wand to the sky. "Protego Totalum. Not going to be snuck up on again." Ursa kneels down next to the wolf. She puts the tip of her wand to place the arrow is embedded and grabs the arrow with her left hand. Ursa pulls the arrow out and immediately casts. "Episky." The wolf's wound heals before it has a chance to bleed badly. "Alright now to get far enough away before waking it." Ursa removes the shield and walks away from the wolf. She squats behind a tree and points her wand at the wolf. "Renerverate." The wolf opens its eyes and looks around in confusion before running away. She carefully stands from her hiding place. She hears the twang of a bow again and ducks. "Fuck." Ursa takes off through the forest. She looks back and trips over a tree root, twisting her ankle. "Just what I need right now. Episky." She's quickly surrounded by four centaurs, bows pointed at her. She looks up and drops her wand before putting her hands up.
"What are you doing in our forest young witch?" One centaur asks as it walks up.
"I-I'm sorry. I-I did not know I had entered your territory. I was- I was just helping a fox pup, it was injured. Then a wolf almost attacked me and-and it got shot so I tracked it down and healed it. I honestly do not know where in the forest I am."
"Wait," the centaur says. "Brown and red hair. What is your name young witch?"
"Ursa Malfoy."
"Lower your weapons." The other centaurs obey and Ursa looks at them all confused. "I am Magorian. Leader of the centaurs of this forest." Magorian holds his hand out to Ursa. She grabs his hand with one hand and her wand with the other. He pulls her to her feet and Ursa tucks her wand in the band of her leggings. "The creatures of the forest have told us about you young Ursa. The ones you have helped. The Noble Phoenix Fawkes has spoken of you as well. He says you can transform into a Noble Phoenix yourself and can fly."
"Well I can fly decently." Ursa replies.
"Show us."
"I cannot change at will yet. Only when falling from a height."
"As yes. I remember that now. We will tolerate you in our forest as long as you are helping creatures."
"Thank you sir. Is 'sir' the correct term?"
"It is."
"Could you please point me in the direction of the fox den I was at or in the direction of Hogwarts? I have no idea where I am."
When Ursa gets out of the forest, she goes to Hagrid's hut, where Hagrid waits with tea. "How'd it go?" Hagrid asks.
"The pup? Good. Afterwards..." Ursa says before explaining what happened.
"The centaurs? Didn't realize the den was that far out."

Ursa sighs as she walks up to Hothoof. Hothoof is laying on the ground and has wounds from talons on her face and a few on her body. "Fight with Clawhoof again?" Ursa asks. Hothoof nods and Ursa gets to work.
Forty-five minutes later, Ursa is finishing up sewing up one of the last gashes. "You need to stop antagonizing Clawhoof." Ursa says. "What are you going to do this summer when I can't patch you up? I know Hagrid can but he doesn't have all the potions I do so he can't numb the pain."
"You could leave some with him." Hothoof suggests.
"I plan on it but I also plan on telling him he can't use them on you. Why do you keep antagonizing him?"
"I don't know. I can't find another way to get his attention."
Ursa pauses and looks at Hothoof. "Wait do you like Clawhoof? Like have a crush on him?"
"I don't know. Maybe."
Ursa resumes. "How about you try to talk to him instead of antagonizing him."
"But he never listens to me."
"Then make him listen. Be stern but not so stern you get into another fight." Ursa finishes with the gash and checks her watch. "Shit I'm probably going to be late for Potions."
"Go. I can wait."
"Nah, there's only one more gash and Severus can give me detention if he wants."
"You are the only person not scared of him aren't you?"
"Probably. I've seen him smile and laugh. Pretty hard for him to scare me now. So Clawhoof huh?"
After Ursa finishes, she goes to class, arriving ten minutes late. "You're la-" Draco starts before looking at Ursa and seeing the blood on her shirt. "What the hell happened to you?"
"Don't worry about it." Ursa says. "It's hippogriff blood."
"Miss Malfoy come here!" Snape snaps. Ursa stands and walks over to Snape. The class gasps and whispers as they see the blood on her shirt and Ursa rolls her eyes. Snape raises an eyebrow when she gets to him. "Do you need to go to the hospital wing?"
"No." Ursa replies. "It's not my blood."
"What did you do?"
"Calm down. It's hippogriff blood. I was patching one up during lunch and didn't have time to change."
"Go change." Ursa groans before coming up with a plan and smirking. "I know that look. I will give you detention if I have to. Go change into another uniform. A Slytherin one." Ursa rolls her eyes and walks out of the room. She checks around her before using magic to change. She turns around and walks back in. "There is no way you changed that quickly."
"You probably will not believe this but magic is real and I'm a witch." Ursa replies.
"Sit. Down. You are pushing it."
"Pushing what?" Ursa asks innocently.
"Detention. Which you now have."
"Okay."
"You make it so unsatisfying to give you detention."
"I know."

Ursa sits outside McGonagall's office, waiting for her. "Miss Malfoy?" McGonagall says ass she arrive. "Are you waiting for me?"
"Yes, um... sorry I didn't know who else to go to because Severus would tell me to suck it up." Ursa says quickly.
"What's wrong dear?"
"I can't get into the Slytherin common room."
"Why would Severus tell you to suck it up if you cannot get in?"
"Because I can't get in for moral reasons. The password..."
"It's a word you don't want to say." Ursa nods.
"I promised Hermione I would never say it again."
"Can you get another Slytherin to let you in?"
"They all roll their eyes at me and don't stop the entrance from closing right behind them."
"Come." McGonagall leads Ursa upstairs to the Gryffindor tower. "Fairy lights."
"Do you know you have a Slytherin following you?" The Fat Lady asks.
"Yes. She is with me." The Fat Lady nods and swings open. Ursa follows McGonagall in. The common room goes silent at the sight of Ursa. "Miss Granger."
"Yes Professor." Hermione says from the floor next to the fire.
"Miss Malfoy will be staying with you for the next..."
"Two weeks." Ursa says as she looks at her feet. "It changes every two weeks."
"Yes. I believe there is a spare bed in your dorm." Complaints come from various Gryffindors. "Silence. This is not up for debate."
Hermione walks over to Ursa and gently grabs her arm. "Come on."
"Thank you Miss Granger." McGonagall says before she leaves.
"A Malfoy with Gryffindors?" Someone says. "Trying to find ways to help your brother torment us?"
"Shut up McLaggen!" Ron says. "Ursa's one of the good ones."
"Come on." Hermione leads Ursa upstairs to her dorm. "Why can't you stay in your dorm?"
"The password and the other Slytherin's are rude to me." Ursa says as Hermione shows her the spare bed.
"What's wrong with the password?"
"It's a word I promised I wouldn't use."
"It's Mudblood isn't it?" Ursa nods. "You're going hard on your promise not to use it aren't you?"
"Yeah. The few Muggle-born Slytherin either suck it up when it cycles to that or have a friend let them in. The other Slytherins don't like me because I'm not like Draco and both Pansy and Draco won't stop the entrance from closing because they think it is stupid that I refuse to say it. Luckily McGonagall seems to trust me."

When Ursa goes to leave the common room one morning, she feels a tap on her back. She turns to see the twins smirking. "What did you do?" Ursa asks.
"Nothing." They say at the same time.
"Miss Malfoy, why are you wearing a Gryffindor tie?" Snape asks later. Ursa looks down at her tie.
"I'm going to kill them." Ursa mutters before tapping it with her wand and changing it back. She looks at her friends. "How long were you three planning on not telling me?"
"It was the twin's idea." Ron says.
"I know it was, they're the only two brave enough to prank me. How long has it been like that?"
"Since we left the common room this morning." Hermione says and Ursa groans.
At lunch, Ursa goes up to the twins. "Changing my tie?" Ursa questions. "Pathetic."
"It was funny." Fred says.
"Should have changed my whole uniform."
"You would have noticed that too easily." George says.
"True."
"Want a cream cake?" Fred asks offering one. Ursa looks at him suspiciously.
"Don't do it Ursa." Ron says. "It's probably one of their Canary Creams. It'll turn you into a canary for a few minutes."
"Ooo give me that." Ursa says as she snatches it. She walks over to Draco and holds it out. "Here. Mother sent me some more cakes." Draco takes it and takes a bite. He suddenly turns into a large canary. His feathers quickly molt and he turns back once they all fall off. The Great Hall breaks out into roaring laughter. Draco turns red and runs out of the Great Hall. Ursa walks back over to the twins. They give her high fives and she sits.
"Good job Malfoy!" Fred says.
"That was great." George adds.
"Thanks for telling me what that was Ron." Ursa says.
"You ruined our prank on her though." Fred says.
