chapter eight: Am
My eyes widened at the sight. I knew that Max was right. That E really did betray us. I just didn't want to believe it.
I wanted to think that E actually was dead. I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it did. It hurt me.
Everyone stopped digging and stared at us. We all hoped if of Max's cloud. I was shocked. Max wore an expression of disappointment. He wished he was wrong too. May was angry and sad. She wanted to say something but didn't know what. Sam on the other hand felt nothing but rage. He wanted to kill these people for real this time.
E stepped in front of people in order to stand in front of us without anyone in his way.
"So you finally caught on. I have to say I didn't think my plan would work." E said happily.
Before anyone could say anything else, Sam punched E in the face. E fell backwards onto the snow covered ground. Blood splattered every where as it spilled out of his nose like a waterfall. He grabbed his face and grunted with pain.
Sam was grinning. Personally I was surprised he stopped at breaking E's nose.
E looked at Sam and saw that his eyes were still red and puffy. The tracks left behind from Sam's tears were glistening in the light as it reflected off the snow. He seemed to realize that Sam took his "death" horribly, and that this was much worse to him.
"Ok. I probably deserved that." E stated as ge stood up.
"Hell yeah, you did! You lucky I only broke your nose! I could snap you in half and kill you real this time if I wanted to, and quite frankly, I do! So best get to either running or explaining before I loose my patience!" Sam yelled.
"Ok. Ok. Calm down. I can explain." There was a pause. Everyone stared at E. The pause was only a minute long but it felt like eternity. Sam punched E in the face again, splitting his lip this time.
"Talk!" He barked.
"Fine. We needed gold. My sister was going to run away. She tried to sell the family jewels, but she got caught. My mom burnt her with an iron rod as punishment. She needed money. So I figured I would come down here and get gold so she can proceed with her plans. Please. I just didn't want my sister to die." He whined.
Sam punched him in the face again. He didn't care about a word E said. After E stood back up. Sam punched him again.
"Would you stop that?" E asked rather loudly.
"No." Sam answered keeping a very level voice.
I watched all the guards. The watched us all intently. They stood perfectly still. I found it suspicious. I understood how E was able to fake his death. The guards on the other hand don't make much sense. I bashed peoples heads in that day. Their blood was still dried onto my face.
I glanced over at the graves. E's was dug up. His head stone was barely visible underneath the snow. All the guards graves on the other hand, were completely untouched.
I my stare shifted back to the guards. I was even more confused than I was before. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Sam punch E again. At that exact moment one of the guards image gliched. The change was fast and only lasted a second, but I saw it. He went from the super realistic appearance of a castle guard, to a light blue, humanoid, cloud, then back to a guard. At that moment it clicked in my mind what was really going on.
Everyone else was dead. E's story about his sister was far from the truth. He wasn't even actually mining.
This left behind one question. What was E planning?
