chapter three: E
I sat on a log silently eating soup that the woman had made me. She looked angry. She was obviously in deep thought. She didn't seem to notice how quiet it was.
"Whats your name?" I finally asked her.
"May." She responded.
"What about you?" I looked around the other man.
"Max." The man had lemon blonde hair with the bright blue eyes to match it. He was a little less than six feet tall. He was wearing a pine green t-shirt with darkwash jeans. He wasn't wearing shoes either.
We all sat in uncomfortable silence until around dawn. At that time Max stood up and stared at the horizon. He was definitely looking at something. All I could see was the opening in the trees that I had stumbled across.
"They're back!" He said excitedly. May stood up with him. They both ran down the path.
I just sat there and waited a while until they came back. When they did return, they had two other people with them. One was a short redhead. The other was a very tall man who was carrying a large sack over his shoulder.
Upon closer inspection, I found that the girl looked a lot like May. She was wearing jean shorts with a dark blue tank top. Just like May and Max, she wasn't wearing any shoes.
The man had long-ish black hair. His eys were bright yellow. Just like May's. He was wearing a black shirt with dark grey basketball shorts, and no shoes.
I don't know why the shoe thing bugged me so much but it did. I think it was because of all the rocks and sticks that were all over the ground. Suddenly I began to understand. I felt a long creature with many legs crawling on my foot. It was a centipede inside of my shoe.
I quickly kicked both of my shoes off and they landed in the fire. The centipede was still on my sock so I took both of those off and threw them. They landed in a tree.
"Hey!" An angry voice barked at me. "Don't just leave your socks in that tree. Burn them if you don't want them any more."
"Yes sure." I shouted back. I retrieved my socks from the tree and threw them in the fire. I watched as the fabric caught fire.
The new man and woman walked over to the logs and sat down. I held my hand out to the man.
"I'm-" I was cut off.
"I know who you are. You're not welcome here. I suggest you leave." The tall man barked. He towered over me and made me feel small.
I stood up, thanked May for the soup then turned around to leave. I was stopped by the sound of Max talking.
"You can't leave. You're still badley injered you would die if we let you walk out there and I refuse to have that on my conscious."
"You sure?" I asked.
"Yeah come sit down." He patted the log next to him. I cautiously walked back over and sat down next to him. I stayed a comfortable distance away and didn't really talk to anyone. I was grateful that Max insisted on me staying. He was my favorite so far.
