chapter five: E

Am seemed nice. She introduced herself and made small talk. I was scared to talk to the tall guy to ask him what his name was. I figured I would come by it eventually.
He and May both seemed very angry. I knew it was because of my being there. I had decided to leave in a few days after I had healed enough to survive the trip.
I looked at May. She was beautiful. She looked angry, she was covered in dirt, and her feet were filthy,  but she looked astonishing. At first glance you would think that she is a fragile person but she clearly wasn't.
"How long have you guys been out here?" I asked.
"About a year or two." Max responded.
"Why have you been out here that long. You could go live on the island."
"We've tried that. May and Am were dragged out of there house and thrown outside of the wall. When Sam and I tried to get in they told us that we would threaten the way of life of the other villagers. They've been trying to get rid of us but they don't get very far."
"They're trying to kill you? Do the king and queen know about it?"
"Their the ones that ordered it." I was shocked. My parents were trying to kill people. These people seemed delightful. Or least Max and Amber.
My parents and I definitely had some business to attend to. I can't help but wonder what else they were keeping from me. What other secrets they were hiding.
The tall man stood up and walked over to the large sack that he was carrying. He opened it up and in it was a whole lot of fruit. He grabbed what appeared to be an apple. He cut it in half and tossed one half at May.
"Lift up your shirt." He growled at me. I looked at him surprised.
        "What?" I asked.
"I need to see you scratches." He clarified.
"Oh." I quickly turned a little bit and lifted up the left side of my bloody shirt. I carefully unwrapped the many bandages witch revealed three large rips in my flesh. The color consisted of an unnerving black and an unearthly red.
I awkwardly stared at the ground as the man rubbed the apple on my scratches.  He said something about the juices helping it heal faster. He said they use it on their feet when they get a cut or something.
        "Sam, is it?" I asked.
        "Yeah." He rumbled.
"Thanks." He just looked at me. I quickly looked at the ground after catching his eye. It was a very awkward situation.
