Part 8
You know that time when everything in your life is normal? I mean just normal, not even perfect but you are happy with the normal as life doesn't give you any roller coasters, but then suddenly out of nowhere a storm comes and sweeps everything away?
It was the same for Khushi. As a kid, she was happy spending time with both her parents, her dad would take her to parks and playgrounds and her mom would take her to parties where she met some really strange men but it dint really bother her, she was just having an okay life and then one day everything just changed.
Her father decided to send her to live with her aunt, she had no idea why, he dint explain things, all he said was that it was going to be good for her, her mom dint protest against it, although she did seem pretty pissed about Khushi leaving, she dint say a word.
And so like that, she was sent to live with her aunt who was way strict, she would always tell her what to wear, what sort of friends to have and never to talk to a boy. She thought that maybe she was sent here because of an argument between both her parents and when they were going to make peace with it, they would come to take her back but as time went by she accepted the fact that they would never come back for her.
It did hurt, but she got used to this new strict lifestyle for her, she stopped questioning things, she stopped wondering why her parents wouldn't even allow her to go visit them, only her father would come to visit her every once in a while. Things were going pretty much the same then after a while, her dad came with the news of their divorce, apparently both her parents had decided to separate.
Her mother dint even find it important to come see her for the last time or anything, she just disappeared and until today Khushi had never seen her again, nor did she have an idea of what had happened.
The only thing that was interesting in her life was Arnav, she kept reading those romance novels and movies and hoping that one day all that sort of things would happen between her and Arnav, in this era where girls had had their first kiss when they were fourteen, at twenty one she hadn't even shook hands with a guy, that's how strict her aunt was with her.
And then one day, her father asked her if she wanted to get married to Arnav, it was like a dream come true, she agreed immediately, she was excited that now finally her life was going to be like the fairytales she read, little did she know that Arnav's behavior was going to hurt her worse than she'd imagine.
Today when he said that she married him for his money, it really pricked her heart. The only reason she said yes to this marriage was because since childhood, she had always wanted to be with him, he was the prince charming of her little fairytale, but it looked like things were different from Arnav's side.
The amount of pain his words caused her was indescribable. As she grew up with her aunt, she was more like a strict boarding school matron more than her aunt, she always told her how the world out there was horrible and that she needed to be really strong to face it, so she had rarely interacted to anyone, but after today, she was somehow starting to believe her aunt's words.
As for Khushi, since she had interacted with very few people, she was too naïve and gullible for life to be able to even raise her voice at someone let alone fighting for herself. But the pain that Arnav's words had caused her seemed to be changing her mind.
She wanted to show him that she wasn't with him for his money but because she loved him. She wanted to show him that all she needed was a little love and respect and although right now she dint know what to do, she had to find a way and show him that he couldn't always treat her the way he wanted to and get away with it.
Her aunt might have told her how the world out there was bad and all, but she never taught her how to deal with it, so she had to figure it out herself.
She kept on pacing around her room, wondering what to do so that she could show Arnav that she wasn't for him because of his money, that sentence had been pricking her heart continuously and she had to do something about it.
She spent a lot of time in her room thinking of a solution, this was the only time when Khushi actually missed having a friend, at least if she'd had only one friend, she could ask for advice, but she had none, so maybe it was time for her to go out and make friends.
She grabbed her phone and informed Anjali that she was heading out, Anjali told the driver to take her wherever she wanted to so it was much easier. She had lived here before but she had been away for too long and a lot of things had changed since then.
She told the driver to take her to any good restaurant so he took her to one of the restaurants, Khushi headed inside and found herself a seat.
It was after long she felt like she could breathe fresh air, that too freely. Her aunt was no ore watching her, she no more had anyone to tell her what to do and what not to, she could do whatever the hell she wanted, and that sort of made her happy.
She dint even remember the last time she went to a restaurant to eat, her aunt would never let her, she said it was the place where a lot of boys came to find a girl to flirt with which was apparently very bad according to her aunt.
Once she had decided what to eat, she gave out the order and then looked around, it felt great being in a restaurant, the last time she went at one was when she went for dinner with her mother and one of her friend and then after that she was sent to her aunt's.
"Hey, you look familiar, have we met before?" A random guy passing by asked, Khushi looked at him just about to tell him that she wasn't interested in talking to him but he also seemed familiar to her.
"No idea but you also seem familiar." She giggled.
"What's your name, maybe that would remind me where and how we met if we did?" He asked.
"I'm Khushi and you?"
"Khushi... Khushi from school right? I remember we were in the same classroom as kids and then you disappeared. No wonder you look so familiar. I am Rohan if you might remember, we used to be desk mates."
"Oh yes, I remember, you once poured water on my chair just before I could sit and got my clothes all wet, I hated you." She laughed.
"Yup, that's me. Can I sit in case you aren't waiting for someone to join you?" Rohan asked.
"Yeah sure, I'm glad that I met someone I used to know. It's been ages, this place doesn't feel like home anymore." Khushi smiled.
"So where had you disappeared to suddenly huh?" Rohan asked.
"Nothing, just shifted with my aunt and continued my studies there." Khushi replied.
"So what are you doing right now? Job or still studying?"
"None actually, I should start working though, I guess it's high time I find a job."
"Well then I guess we met for a reason. I took over my dad's company after he passed away and it's been quite difficult to manage, I've been looking for someone trustworthy to work for me as a manager and you seem trustworthy.
How about you come to my office tomorrow with you resume and everything, we'll take an interview and I really think you can get the job."
"I'll think about it."
"Great, here's my card, when you are done thinking you can give me a call, remember I was your classmate, not some creepy stranger." Rohan laughed as he stood up and handed his card to Khushi, he then waved goodbye at her and walked away.
Khushi kept on staring at the card wondering what to do, she had never been in the outside work all alone for a long time, she dint even know how to judge people or figure out who was trustworthy enough.
Of course it was a coincidence she met Rohan here, but him offering her a job was kind of strange, or maybe it wasn't, maybe he actually needed someone to work for him. Her aunt had filled so much poison about the outside world in her mind, all she could see in people was negativity, but she had to stop that.
This was the perfect opportunity for her, to get a job, work and earn for herself so Arnav would never tell her that she was with him for his money again.
Maybe all she needed to do was go for the interview and see how it goes, if she felt like it was a good work environment, then it was going to be good for her actually.
She put Rohan's card in her bag deciding to call him in the evening. The waited walked in with her food and left it at the table as he walked away. Khushi sat there alone eating by herself.
Since Arnav left for the office in the morning after arguing with her, he hadn't even bothered to call or check up on her, it seemed like her little fairytale wasn't a fairytale anymore and the guy whom she thought to be as her prince charming was more of a beast than a prince charming.
