Part 55
It felt lonely without Tara, Khushi had gotten used to living with her, sitting here in the hall and watching movies with her and just talking about random stuff, now she was married and she lived with Rohan so Khushi was all alone once again maybe it was time for her to find a new paying guest.
She grabbed her phone and looked at the time, it was eight o'clock yet, she had finished cooking and even eating dinner and currently she was watching some random show on tv which was boring, she dint know what else to do, it wasn't even her sleeping time yet.
She turned off the tv and headed to her room to lie down when a text from Arnav popped up.
"You asleep?"
"Not yet, just bored."
"Perfect, can I come over? Need to talk to you about something."
"Sure." She typed back, after that he dint reply so she assumed he was on his way here, she wondered what he wanted to talk about right now? Was it something serious?
She stared at the ceiling blankly, Tara had been gone for like three days only and she was already missing her company so much, it was strange how they had both become so close in such a short time.
A while later, she heard the doorbell so she headed out of her room and went to open the door.
"Hey." Arnav greeted her as he walked in.
"Hey." She replied as she followed him and sat down beside him on the sofa, looking at him curiously wondering what he wanted to talk to her about.
"So, what did you want to talk about?"
"Us..." He said and then remained silent for a moment, she was waiting for him to talk but it seemed like he dint know how to say whatever he wanted to say and that was somehow scaring her.
"I'm sorry, I just don't know where to begin without causing you any sort of pain." Arnav smiled nervously.
"Okay, now you're really scaring me, what is it Arnav?"
"Nothing to be scared about actually, but you remember the day you left me... you were so angry, you actually burnt our marriage certificate and all that..."
"Yeah, so nothing could bind us together anymore... but why are you bringing up that now?"
"Because I realized, you burnt our marriage certificate, it doesn't mean the marriage was over. We never really got divorced. I guess you were so mad at me and I hated you I was happy that you were gone so we never thought about it, but we never signed any divorce paper or so, and just burning off our marriage certificate doesn't end the marriage, so according to the law, we are still married." Arnav said.
"That thing never even crossed my mind." Khushi said.
"I know, it dint cross my mind either, you left me, I wanted you to leave so I never even bothered as long as you left. And then we got back together and that day when Lavanya came to my office and you left...
It felt like it was going to happen again, like you were going to leave me again and I just kept on thinking about that day when you left and out of nowhere it just clicked my mind." Arnav said.
"So... where does that bring us now?" She asked.
"It doesn't change anything Khushi... I just realized what had happened and I thought I should tell you about it. So we will keep doing this, keep dating, and someday when you are ready, we would get married, like the way you wanted us to get married, we just wont have to go through the legal process again, that's it." Arnav smiled.
"I'm glad you told me about it." She smiled faintly.
"Imagine all this time and we actually never even gave it a thought."
"I know right, it's so funny." She giggled, Arnav just sighed and sat there silently beside here, there was a long silence, neither of them had anything to say.
"I guess I should get going then, I just came here so I could talk to you about it face to face, dint want to do it on the phone." Arnav said as he stood up to leave.
"Stay." Khushi said as she looked up at him.
"You sure?" He asked, a smile seemed to be forming up on his face.
"Yeah, since Tara left, I've been feeling lonely, it would be good if you stayed. We hadn't even met since the wedding, I missed you."
"Aww, I missed you too Khushi." He said as he sat down beside he once again, she held his arms and leaned on his shoulder.
"Do you think there would come a day when we would live together and not just stay back at each other's house?" Arnav asked.
"I don't know Arnav... it's kind of scary."
"What scares you Khushi?" He asked as he looked at her seriously, if she was going to be scared, they were always going to be stuck here, and never move ahead in their relationship.
"Of the past repeating itself, of things getting terrible again. Sometimes I feel like I trust you now but then I remember the past and I am not sure."
"Do you think you'll ever really be able to trust me again? I broke it really bad dint I?" Arnav looked at her sadly.
"Maybe with time I will."
"Okay." He sighed.
*****
Arnav woke up from the nightmare in the middle of the night, he tried to get back to sleep but it looked like his mind was too busy to let him sleep, he turned to look at Khushi who was sleeping peacefully beside him.
He was even surprised that she was okay sharing a bed with him but she made it clear there was no touching, she was cute and funny and just perfect... Maybe this was a sign that one day in the future, she was going to be able to trust him.
He slowly stepped out of the bed and headed out of the room so he could sit in the hall and watch tv or do something as he couldn't sleep.
For some reason, despite everything, his nightmares never stopped, he couldn't stop dreaming about all those moments in the past, how Garima manipulated him, and everything that was always going on between her and his father.
He sat down on the couch and turned on the TV when he heard her voice.
"Arnav?" She said in her sleepy voice as she walked out of her room and towards him.
"Did I wake you up? I'm sorry I dint mean to." He apologized.
"It's okay, why are you awake? It's like two o'clock, you should get back to sleep."
"I tried, I couldn't sleep. I'll watch something on TV, you should go sleep, you have to go to work tomorrow."
"So do you."
"Yeah, I am used to less sleep." He said.
"What happened Arnav?" She asked as she sat beside him and looked at him worriedly.
"Nothing, just the usual nightmares, they happen sometimes." He shrugged.
"What are they about?"
"Nothing important, look at you, you can barely open your eyes, go back to sleep Khushi." He smiled, she looked so cute while she tried to fight her sleep.
"I wont be able to sleep knowing you are out here awake, besides I told you to stay because I needed company." She pouted.
"Okay fine then, come I'll lie down beside you." He said as he turned of the TV and walked back to the room with her, they both lied down on the bed, Khushi held his arms tight and snuggled on them while he just lied there staring at her.
"Do you want to talk?" She asked with her eyes closed.
"No, I'm good. Just sleep okay."
"Okay, but wake me up if anything okay? And you get back to sleep also, maybe just think about me and how much you love me, it will make it easier." She giggled.
"Sure, if you say so." Arnav laughed.
She fell asleep in a few minutes while he just lied beside her, just being thankful that she was here, with him, despite everything he had done to her in the past. She had to be really strong to have been able to forgive him. Maybe someday, she was going to be able to trust him and maybe he would propose to her like she had always dreamt of and get married again in a fairytale like wedding.
Maybe someday.
