Darker Than Most Nights

It was barley even 10pm before Isla was asleep in her cozy bed with a fluffy blanket over her skinny lanky body. The night was darker than most nights. The glowing moon was slightly covered by a massive grey cloud.

Tomorrow would be the day that she had feared. New school, perfect strangers. Isla and her small family, her mother and sister, had moved to the area about a month ago. She didn't have to deal with the pressure of school all summer.

The bright yellow school bus with mud washed windows pulled up to the driveway of her house. She waved goodbye to her mother and steeped into the bus. There were no empty seats left by the time she got on so she sat with a girl who had on grey leggings and an ocean blue hoodie. They sat in silence the rest of the way to school.

At school, she had to go to the office so that she could be added to the class list and get her schedule. The day was long and boring, mostly learning school rules, which are basically the same from school to school.

After school, Isla pulled on her new pair of hot pink pyjamas with unicorns scattered on them. She couldn't stop thinking about the girl she had met today.
