The cafeteria was huge.

It had tons of circular tables set all over the floor, and then there was a sectioned off room at the front where you got your food.

There were tons of kids all around, shoving each other, running around just being teenagers.

"C'mon."

Piper led us to a table by the windows.

"This is where we usually sit. A few others will come soon."

"Okay."

Then we walked to the line, which was absolutely hectic.

"Um okay, I'll tell you who's good, bad, popular etc. That girl over there is Drew. You do NOT want to mess with her, she is the schools 'queen bee'. She has power because of money from her dad. A lot of people hate her. There's Reyna, over there. She's the top athlete, and amazing at swordfighting. Be careful around her, because I would not want to get on her bad side. Then there's the Stolls, the schools pranksters. They prank everyone, and pickpocket. Especially newbies, so watch out. Then theres..."

I zoned out after that. It was too overwhelming, with all the new faces and names.

"Hey Annabeth, go."

"Huh?"

Leo poked me, it was our turn to go get our dinner.

The food looked delicious.

We were having pork roast, with mashed potatoes, gravy, and veggies. There was also a salad and fruit bar.

I got a plate, then went over to the fruit/salad bar and picked out some fruit for dessert. The strawberries looked amazing. I got a handful and dipped them in the chocolate fountain.

Then I grabbed a Coke and went to our table.

Jason, Piper, and Leo were already there, along with some others.

I sat down and started eating.

"So everybody, this is my new roommate, Annabeth."

"Hey, I'm Hazel."

A girl with chocolatey skin, cinnamon brown hair, and gold eyes introduced herself.

"Nice to meet you."

"I'm Frank."

A guy that looked Chinese, and was built huge was Frank. I would've been scared of him, but he had a shyish, nice face.

"And I'm Nico."

I jumped. I hadn't noticed him.

He was standing behind me, with his food.

"Um h-hey."

Nico had obsidian black eyes, with dark hair framing them. He also had pale skin, and big circles under his eyes.

"Hey how come you're late?" Hazel asked.

"I had detention."

"For what?!"

"I punched Octavian, he was being annoying."

"Oh figures."

"So Annabeth, how come you're here?" Leo asked.

I gasped, images of Helen flashing through my mind. Her looming over me, with that crazed look in her eyes, and alcohol in her hand.

"I-I'd rather not talk about it. Um so why are you here?"

They looked at me curiously, then shrugged.

"Not a talker huh. Well, word gets out eventually, and nasty rumors, so I would watch out."

"I'm here because they had no where else to put me."

"Oh."

"Want me to tell you about more people?"

"Sure."

She looked around the lunchroom, and then pointed.

"See that girl over there? With the stringy brown hair and bandana?"

"Yeah."

"Her name is Clarisse. I wouldn't mess with her she's the school bully. Then sitting next to her is her boyfriend Chris. If you make her mad, go to him."

I looked around some more, then found Reynas table. She was sitting with who I assumed were more jocks. Then sea green eyes met mine and my vision tunneled. I looked away quickly.

"Who-who's that over there? Sitting by Reyna."

Piper scanned the room, and when she saw who I was talking about, her expression turned sour.

"Thats Percy Jackson. He's the top jock. Hes great at swordfighting, but a jerk. He turns down every girl. I heard Reynas trying to get him now. I'd stay away."

"Oh."

I was disappointed, but still intrigued by him. He didn't look like a jerk to me. His messy black hair with his green eyes were so cute.

I looked at the people at our table. Jason, Piper, and Leo were talking, and Frank and Hazel were whispering to each other. Nico was just sitting quietly. I saw him snatching looks at Percy though.

I finished eating and put my trash in the trashcan. Then I said,

"What do we do now?"

"Let's go back to the dorm."

We went back.

"So hey can we go shopping sometime? I need warmer clothes for New York. California was pretty warm."

"Sure. I'm not much for shopping, but we can go right now."

"Yeah I'm not much for shopping either, but I don't want to freeze."

I hopped off my bed and got money dad had sent with me. It was a lot.

Piper and I walked outside.

Then we hailed a taxi and were on our way.
