(May)

"What's wrong?" Alain took a step forward and shut the door. He reached into his pocket and he had the key to the room in his hand! "Cat got your tongue?"

"How did you get the key?!" I backed up from the computer, only a few tables separating me from Alain. He was a big guy, too big for me to handle. He also had the key and was locking the door.

"It wasn't too difficult," Alain's eyes suddenly narrowed. His grin became more menacing. "Now, I think it's time for you to be taught the reasons you do not mess with me."

"Are you still angry because I made a few jokes?" I jumped onto the tables and started walking on them, towards Alain, but at a slow pace. "I think you need to chill out."

"I think you need to grow a brain," Alain grabbed the first table and shoved it to one side. The computer toppled onto the floor, but he didn't care. That's when I realised he was going to try and hurt me. The violence was in his voice.

I also didn't care.

"I think you need to grow up," I stepped backwards onto a different table, to avoid Alain.

"You're so going to get it, you don't even understand," Alain's words set me up for a nice response.

"No, I don't understand because you sound like the biggest fucking paedophile in the world," I shrugged casually and Alain froze, not moving for a moment.

Suddenly, he snapped his head up at me, his face all scrunched up. He seemed much more angry in comparison to ten seconds ago. I remembered what Ash said about taking the bull by the horns. Well, this bull had horns that were on fire.

Oops.

He lunged for me at a random moment, my thoughts trapping me in place. I was still on the table, so I had a small advantage. I simply lifted a foot up and placed it on his head, hopping over him and onto the floor.

"Surely a teacher has heard the commotion, your plan sure is stupid," I stood right by the door now with a big smile on my face. However, being sick before had made me very tired and it was showing clearly.

"That is where you are wrong. Sure, I will get in some trouble, but you will also be in trouble. If a teacher doesn't notice then no one gets into trouble, but you will come worse off," Alain lunged at me again, with a fist. This was the first person in my life I had seen throw punches at a girl with so much effort. His friend seemed a little more reluctant, but Alain was going apeshit crazy.

I lost my footing stepping back from his fist and suddenly another one was meeting my face. I pulled up my arms and blocked it, feeling the force blow straight through both of my arms. They instantly felt dead. Just as fast as his second fist came in, Alain had his hand on my shirt, pulling me into the air. He pushed me into the wall and pinned me there, so we could meet eye to eye.

"It would be a shame to ruin this pretty face of yours," Alain sneered with a grin on his face. "Guess it has to be done, though."

"You won't even get the chance!" I replied with anger, throwing my foot right between his legs, dragging it up to meet his balls.

Alain yelped out in pain and dropped to the floor. Well, guess that's one way of avoiding the bull's horns. Some metaphor, huh?

I walked up to Alain and took the key from his pocket. Something I came to instantly regret, as he grabbed onto my ankle and pulled my feet out from underneath me. I landed face first on the floor and I could see stars in my vision, everything becoming a blurry daze. Then he got on top of me, pinning me down onto the floor. His eyes were full of malice, violence was written on his face. I thought back to the morning when Ash and Serena walked to school. That was probably the reason he was like this.

(Alain) On the bus...

I watched that little bitch who had been causing me problems get onto the bus and the urge to say something was too much.

"I hope you don't cause me too much trouble today," my peaceful act was in play. I wasn't going to let her win. However, there was something about May that made me feel...confused. I wasn't sure how I felt. There was a feeling taking over that I couldn't control. An urge. A desire.

"I will cause less trouble than you do for your parents. I bet they are so disappointed in you," May replied so calmly that it made me angrier than ever. My vision became blurry and red as the anger sunk in.

"How dare you, you stupid, idiotic-"

"Let's not start a fight now, okay?!" one of the idiot's friends broke up the fight and I shuffled back into my seat properly, thinking the words May said over and over again.

They only made my desire and anger stronger.

Now...(May)

"We're going to have some fun, you and me. I will definitely teach you a lesson here," Alain smirked and then I watched as he pinned me down and leant in close to my face.

"Fuck you!" I shouted and threw my head forward. I felt a sharp stinging pain in my head, bashing into his. Alain howled and then he slapped me across the face. It stung and my cheek felt as flat as a pancake. Everything began to fade into darkness.

That's when there was a bang on the door.

"Let us in this instant!" I heard a teacher shout. "What is going on?"

Alain looked up. He was still on top of me. He turned to me and scowled, holding my face with one hand, squeezing on my cheeks. He stared right into my eyes like he was trying to stare at my soul. I felt my heartbeat slow down like everything was going in slow motion. I felt the sweat on my forehead.

I felt the fear in my body.

I wasn't sure what it was that I was fearing. Maybe it was Alain and what he was planning on doing. I wasn't even sure what he was doing.

"Move out of the way," I heard Drew's voice. He sounded pissed.

"Drew!" I screamed his name and he came barging through the door, staring right at Alain, who turned to face him.

I finally blacked out as Drew screamed, charging Alain.

"May...May, are you alright?" Sycamore was shaking me when I woke up. My head hurt really bad but I ignored it.

"I'm fine," I lied, getting up to my feet very slowly. I stumbled slightly but regained my balance. I looked around the room. There was no Alain, but there was blood all over the floor. Following the trail, my eyes fell on Drew. He was sat against the wall, hands hanging over his knees. Blood was dripping from his knuckles and they looked cut up and destroyed.

"Well, let's get you checked out, just to be safe," Sycamore spoke sympathetically. He looked at Drew and his eyes narrowed slightly. "Drew, follow me."

Sycamore was speaking in a voice that was sympathetic yet stern. It gave me the impression that Drew was in trouble but there was less in it. What did he do to Alain?

(Drew...)

"Drew!" I heard may scream and rage built up inside of me.

I charged straight through the door and saw Alain on May. I completely lost it and ran across the room, crashing into Alain, rolling around on the floor until I got on top of him. Then I threw my first punch at his stupid face. I felt my knuckles crack against his nose and blood poured everywhere across his face.

It felt satisfying.

I continued to punch his face over and over again. Each punch had less strength than the first, but I just continued over and over again until the teacher I got through the door with grabbed me and pulled me from Alain. Blood was dripping from my knuckles and there were severe cuts on them, skin peeling and such. I looked at Alain, who was just a bloody mess sprawled on the ground. His nose was clearly broken and a tooth was on the floor.

I stared at Alain like I wanted to murder him. I was sure the teacher could feel my murderous feelings, they were probably radiating from my body.

"May..." I muttered, turning to her unconscious body. I knelt down to check if she was okay.

"Do not touch her!" the teacher behind me shouted in a cold voice. I looked up at the crowd forming at the door and stepped back.

Now...(May)

I headed up to the nurse's office for the second time today, Drew and Sycamore not too far behind. Sycamore was silently scolding Drew for his actions. I still hadn't seen Alain. Suddenly, sirens blared not to far away and I looked out to the car park.

"Who's that for?" I wondered as we stepped inside.

"Alain," Sycamore said it simply and I froze on the spot, turning to Drew, who instantly looked away from me.

I never knew he cared that much. It was quite a shock. I wasn't sure how to feel about Alain being badly hurt, but it was going to be good as he won't be around for a while.

We continued walking up until we got to the nurse's office. She checked on me and everything seemed okay. Then, Drew walked in and I had to step outside.

"Go back to class," Sycamore told me this and then he shut the door, going into the nurse's office.

"He can't tell me what to do," I frowned at the door and sat on the seat, folding my arms. I wasn't going to leave Drew alone.

After about twenty minutes and some shouting, they both finally came out of the office. Sycamore gave me a stern look but I looked back with a frown. He opened his mouth to lecture me but decided against it.

"Come on, your teacher will be worried Drew," Sycamore said and then he hurried ahead.

"You okay?" I asked Drew, who seemed to be dragging his feet along. His hands were bandaged up thoroughly.

"Fine," was all he said.

"Well...thank you," I smiled at Drew and he looked away for a second.

"No problem," he replied, smiling as he looked back at me. "I just want to warn you of something, by the way."

"What is it?" I asked Drew, who scratched the back of his head.

"This school isn't what it seems," he said mysteriously with a straight face. Boy, he was serious.

"What do you mean?" I asked Drew, but he started to walk away, towards his own class.

"Inside please, May," Sycamore looked at my arm and then he walked into the classroom.

I looked down at my left arm and noticed it was a sporting a horrible black and purple bruise, right near my elbow. I touched it and felt a stinging pain shoot through my body. Then, I looked up and walked into the classroom, realising that all eyes were on me, so I awkwardly sat down.

"Okay class, considering half of the lesson has been disrupted," Sycamore didn't look at me but I knew what he was thinking. "I am just going to go and sort something else out. Serena, Calem, you guys will make sure everything is in order before and after the bell. You're in charge while I deal with this, okay?"

"Yes sir," Calem and Serena said at the same time.

Sycamore left the classroom and he turned left. I knew exactly where he was headed. He was going to the Principal's office. Maybe he was going to the hospital...

"May, are you okay? What the hell happened?" Misty asked me, peeping from behind my left shoulder. "Who gave you that awful bruise? I'll kick their ass!"

"I bet it was Alain," Gary spoke casually, while Misty was about to burst.

"That son of a b-"

"It's all over now, stop it you guys," I gestured for Misty to calm down and then sighed.

"Over how?" Misty tilted her head to the side.

"It doesn't matter," I shook my head and thought about the fear I felt. What was he going to do to me? "I'm going to go to the toilet."

"'Kay," Misty sat back down.

I walked out of the classroom and straight to the bathroom. Upon entering, I immediately crashed against the wall and slumped into a sitting position. Questions and the events from lunch raced through my head. There were some things that I didn't quite understand. I felt tired, worn out and hurt. I just wanted to sleep. I knew I couldn't do that so I got back up and left the bathroom.

"Oh, May," Sycamore froze on the spot, almost barging into me. He scratched the back of his head and laughed nervously.

"Hiding something sir?" I folded my arms, ignoring the pain in them both and raised an eyebrow. It was written all over his face.

"I...erm, no," Sycamore threw an arm out as if to signal 'it's nothing'.

"Drew said something about the school being not what it seems..." I looked around and then my voice became a whisper. "What did he mean?"

Sycamore looked around and then he looked me dead in the eyes. Suddenly, they were filled with seriousness. He crouched down and put his hands on the top of my arms.

"This school..." he started and then thought of a way to say what he wanted to say. "Is a school for the most gifted kids across the country, yes?"

"I know that, what's so bad about that?" I shrugged like it was no big deal. Was Alain being more violent because he knew me and my friends were the worst in the school?

"It's not about your own test scores," Sycamore literally read my mind and then sighed. "Many students here are violent and have bad track records. They get in trouble a lot in school. You haven't seen the full force of it. However, the violence can escalate pretty bad depending on the people. We as a school keep all of the trouble under wraps so the press gives us a good reputation."

"So what you are saying is that people who don't get super-high test scores use violence and bullying to get the smarter people to help them or do their work for them? And you let it happen?" I felt a little bit sick. It was strange indeed. The school wanted a good reputation, I suppose.

"We don't let it happen," Sycamore replied sternly. "But yes, the lower-scored people use violence and bullying as a way to improve their scores. If they are learning and getting better as a result of it, the school board see it as a good thing. It's pretty twisted and unnatural, I know, but at the end of the day, this school produces 100% pass rates with scores all above 80% on tests. The students here are the next world leaders and celebrities of our country. However, we don't condone violence so there is a policy in place."

"What?" I almost snapped, but it turned into a whisper.

"If we see or catch the fighting occurring, then great punishments are dished out. Many teachers get super angry when they see it, especially with first years, who are not aware of what happens in this school yet. Many second years will target people like Clemont, who is a very good learner and model student. You should look out for him," Sycamore turned to leave but I grabbed his arm lightly.

"So Drew is...?" I asked, prompting him to answer.

"Suspended for two weeks," Sycamore's words surprised me.

"Only two weeks?" I raised my eyebrow again.

"I said great punishments are dished out, but he was protecting another student from trouble. His punishment was lessened by the Principal. He can be nice when he wants," and with that, Sycamore left to go back to class.

I stood there, staring into space. So much had happened today and I needed some time to think. I walked back into the restroom. There was no one in there so I could think about things clearly.

I was just thankful that my friends and I weren't the brightest people in the world, least of all the school. We would have less trouble during our time here.

But somehow, I felt as if our stupidity would get is in even more trouble with the students than if we were smart.

One thing was for sure, Clemont was soon to be on that radar of violence and I had to warn him and as a group, we had to protect him.

I suppose an investigation was also in order. We had to uncover all of the secrets in the school. Anything that could make life here easier for the next four years. We needed it desperately.

And boy, we were sure as hell getting it.

Dun dun dunnnnnn

Welp I have been working on this chapter for like two weeks now. Like, every day I have wrote something then deleted it and changed it.

I was too scared to release this chapter, I wasn't really sure if it would go down well.

Ah well, the wait is over and I am done, so I hope you enjoyed.

Have a good day!
