Chapter 7: Home Again
Once they arrive home from school...
*Thomas's POV*
"We're up all night 'til the sun
We're up all night to get some
We're up all night for good fun
We're up all night to get lucky!" I sang, listening to my headphones, as I grinned, opening my door quietly.
I looked around and I sighed, setting down my Steven universe backpack and grabbing the note on my counter.
"Working late, get some food, get your homework done, get to bed. Love you, dad." I read, as my smile dropped slightly, before I grabbed some instant noodles, heating it up, and eating quietly, my music playing in the background, filling the empty house with noise.
"We're up all night to get lucky." I sang, as I started to clean up my food, making some for my parents who would probably not eat it anyway.
They got home around 2 in the morning most days, and they were dead asleep when I left school. They got back up when school was just in 6th period, and we're out of the house by 7th to leave for work.
I wrapped up my homework quickly and I headed off to bed, never once turning off my precious music.
Music that was ever my only company. But that's all I'll ever need
As usual.
*Roman's POV*
I practically slammed opened the door extravagantly, a huge smile on my face. "Dad, I'm home!" I called, smiling, seeing my Dad pop out from behind the corner. "Hey son. How are you today? How was school?" He asked, smiling.
"School was a lot better than normal, I got to do the rehearsal after detention, and I have two big things to tell you." I said, setting down my backpack.
"Where's Papa?" I ask, looking around, hoping he was home from work.
"He's not home yet, but he should be home in 15 minute. Why don't you help me set the table." Dad said, grinning.
"Sure Dad." I said, as I walked up to him, kissing him on his scratchy cheek slightly.
"Your the best, you know that, right Romy?" He asked, grinning.
"I know dad." I said, copying his contagious grin. Then I walked into the kitchen, as I sighed at the mess.
"Dad, you know Papa is the chef in the family. Why do you try to make a mess? It's like a flour volcano exploded in here." I asked, teasingly, as I joked, before looking to see my Dad's face contort to that of shock.
"I'll have you know, I may not be the best cook, but I'm getting better." He protested. "How dare you!" He said, scoffing.
'I definitely got my acting, flamboyant side from him.' I thought, as I grabbed a rag.
"Sure dad." I said, as I started cleaning up. I stuck my finger in what he was making and gagged, before laughing.
"Yea, you are getting better, it didn't make me puke this time!" I said, as Dad got me in a chokehold and nuggied my longish hair.
"Guess who's home?" I heard a fimilar voice shout.
"Papa!" I shouted, getting out of and running over to my papa with his arms out for me to hug him.
"I missed you, my little Chiquito." He said, his Spanish accent coming out slightly.
"Papa." I said, sighing. "I'm not a little boy anymore." I said.
"Aww, Roman, you'll always be my little Chiquito." He said, as he kissed my forehead.
Dad came over and joined our hug.
I would never want anything else. Nothing may ever perfect, but my family sure was close to it. This is how I want it to be forever.
As usual.
*Patton's POV*
I smiled, bouncing happily. I had cuts all over my hand from dining a basketball in a thorn bush, but it was worth it.
I pulled out my key that hung on my kitty lanyard, as I walked into my house.
"Nana, I'm home!" I called, smiling.
"Patton-kins! Your home." She said, smiling, as her huge glasses rested on her face. She was a super small old lady, with the sweetest disposition, but she was still a lively grandma.
"Nana, I missed you too. Where's Winona?" I asked, looking for the adorable border collie.
When I heard the padding off paws, I smiled, bending down to pet our puppy. "Winona! I missed you girl." I said, smiling.
"I'm going to volunteer at the soup kitchen tonight. Wanna come and get some soup tonight?" She asked, smiling.
Discarding my previous plans, I nodded, smiling. "Of course, Nana." I said, as I grinned, dropping my backpack and locking arms with my Nana.
She chuckled. "My hero." She said, as she patted my shoulder and off we went.
As usual.
*Logan's POV*
I was standing at my accommodations porch, rapping delicately at the wooden door before me. The door swung open as my parental figures stood there. The male parental figure tapped his foot and the female parental figure had their arms covering her abdominal cavity. They were.....angry, I believe.
I gulped slightly.
"Greetings. I have arrived at the house in your time allotted for my well being." I said, quietly, but factually.
"You were one minute and 25 seconds over. That is not even marginally close to our time allotted, Logan. Your tardy. What withheld you from returning home immediately?" The female parental figure asked, her voice higher in pitch, but it widened with anger.
"I expect you have a responsible reason?" The male parental figure asked, his anger building in his eyes.
"I was kept up in the library. I found a really good book about space." I said, forgetting to use my extensive vocabulary words that I learned.
"You what?" The male parental figure asked, his eyes ablaze with fury. "You made your oath you would not be 'held up in the library' again." He said, quoting Logan's words exactly.
"Eh, leave the old whippersnapper alone. He has enough on his plate as it is!" A voice shouted, and I smiled gratefully internally.
Soon, an old man on a cane hobbled out, as he sighed, shaking. "Eh, back in my day...." He started, before my mom sighed.
"Dad, what are you doing out of bed. I told you to go rest. Your not well." She said, sighing.
"I came to greet my grandson. My lovely, intelligent, grandson." He said, as he clasped his shaky, kinda clammy hand on my shoulder supportively.
"It's grand to see you too, grandfather." I said, as I nodded, as he nodded as well. He saw the gratefulness in my eye, before shaking it off.
"Now, get your school work done, you wippersnapper!" He said, and I nodded.
"Yes sir." I said, as I looked back to my parents for confirmation.
"Hurry yourself to the table, your food is declining in temperature." The female parental figure said, as she sighed heavily.
"Yes, mother." I said, looking down at the ground, before scurrying over to the table.
When I sat down, I sighed. Cabbage soup. Again.
I looked to the fridge and sighed once more, staring at my food schedule.
Breakfast: Oatmeal, vitamin pills
Lunch: an apple, flaxseed or millet sandwich with any lean meat
Dinner: cabbage soup
I started to eat diligently, as I finished, placing my plate in the sink, before I marched to my room.
"Goodnight mother, goodnight father. Goodnight grandfather." I said, as I my door, placing myself inside of it, and closing it to start on my homework.
I diligently started to work on my homework till the task was thoroughly complete, before turning into my bed, falling asleep promptly at 8:30.
As usual.
*Virgil's POV*
I was on my way back to the héllspawn where I came from.
I can't tell what I hate more.
School
Or
This place
I sighed, as I effortlessly opened my door, seeing my dad passed out on the couch, booze bottles littered around them.
Sighing, I picked them up myself as I started to make a dinner for me, seeing as my parent already had dinner.
'I might have to go shopping soon.' I thought, looking at my food choices of staleish bread and an apple.
I grabbed a piece of bread and took the apple, before heading upstairs to my room, careful not to wake my sleeping but drunk parent.
Typical night for me.
I grabbed my small, portable radio and I turned it to static, as I flopped down on my messy bed and yawned, falling asleep without doing any of my homework.
As usual.
