Chapter 17: Cookies and Lies
*Thomas's POV*
"We're here!" I shouted, stepping on the breaks, as everyone lurched forward in their seats, earning a couple of groans from Patton and Virgil.
"What the.... héll, Thomas!" Virgil shouted, as he got out of the car quickly.
"Language, kiddo." Patton corrected, as he yawned, streaching slightly.
"Roman, can you help me with Patton?" Logan asked, as Roman nodded, grinning.
"Why of course, Tin Man!" Roman shouted, as I turned off the car, unbuckling my own seatbelt as I got out myself.
I took a breath of fresh air, glancing at everything in Patton's front lawn. A bed of beautiful light blue flowers, a red humming bird feeder, and a small paved pathway covered in weeds that lead to an old oak door. I also noticed how small and slightly warn down Patton's house was in my once over of the house, before I paused over Virgil's body in the grass, on all fours, as he panted heavily.
Logan said something about a Panic attack.
"Virgil!" I shouted, alarmed, running over to him, as he took deep breaths, trying to breath. He looked up at me with wide eyes, as his lips trembled to speak.
"T-thom...as...." Virgil said, as he coughed, taking in big gulps of air when he could.
I put my hand on his back, as I tried breathing with him, hoping I could help in some way, feeling a bit guilty that I didn't know more on how to help.
He did eventually breath with me, as he kept taking shuddery breaths.
After a few minutes, he spoke in a raspy voice.
"I'm....fine..." He said, his breathing slightly back to normal.
"Virgil, what spurred this panic induced state?" I heard Logan ask suddenly, making Virgil jump.
"I just....really hate cars." Virgil said, shakily, as he slowly let go of the grass, unclenching his fists.
I helped him sit up, as he slowly pushed my hands away, using me to stand on shaky feet.
"Kiddo.....you good? Are you injured?" Patton asked, supported by both Roman and Logan.
"Yea Dad. I'm..." Virgil froze, realizing what he said, his face flushed a bright red color, thought it was more pink from his foundation.
Patton's face broke out into the biggest smile, which I thought was impossible because his big smiles are already impossibly big.
"You....called me...dad." Patton said, half asleep, as he chuckled slightly.
"You're like our fathery figure, always helping us with right from wrong." Roman exclaimed, shifting Patton to support him better.
"Well, you certainly act like a male parental figure, Patton. Speaking of, is your parental figures at home?" Logan asked.
"Yeaaaa...bout that...." Patton said, as he stood up suddenly, noticing a figure in the window, covered by the blinds. His face shined a confident smile, as he shifted, making it seem like he was only hugging Logan and Roman.
"Nana! Look, I made friends!" Patton shouted, his voice loud and excited, which caused Virgil to once again flinch.
"Oh, Patty cake, you did? Come inside, come inside! I baked y'all cookies!" A croaking voice called out to them from inside, and Logan, Virgil, Roman, and I turned to give each other a brief look of humor at the name Patty cake.
Patton, by some miracle, found enough strength to stand on his own, almost as if he was trying to hide his injuries from his Nana. He got off of Roman and Logan and slightly stumbled to his Nana, smiling as the door opened to reveal an elder lady well into her 80's or 90's, with white hair so curly it bunches together on it's own, and big huge round glasses that rested on her small button nose.
"Are y'all coming or what?" She called, waving a bony hand to the inside of their house, which looked like what you would expect a elderly grandmothers house to look like.
Virgil and Logan felt more at ease with Patton's grandmother, as they started towards the door, but as I looked at Roman's face, Roman didn't look relaxed for some reason. In fact, he looked the opposite.
He looked scared.
"Roman, are you alright?" I asked him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
As if the contact was enough to snap him out if whatever daze he was in, he looked back at me, his confidence coming back in an overwhelming force.
"Why, Thomas, I'm practically perfect in every way. Besides, when am I ever not ok? I'm Roman, the prince of Disney! I'm fabulous." Roman said, as if he was trying to convince me that he was ok.
I just let it go as Roman being Roman, as I nodded, as Roman went ahead of me, like he was marching to battle.
I followed behind, as I smiled. This place felt so warm and safe and cosy, with little embroidered pillows and knit wool blankets.
"Wow." I said, a bit taken back. My house was huge, but this was nothing compared to my house.
"Wow indeed." Virgil said, as he looked to be feeling the same thing I was, that sense of grandmotherly love.
Logan, however, wasn't as amazed.
"Patton, please stay put so I may analyze your injuries and treat them properly. I'm certain that the others can....'make themselves at home' like you continuously claim that you desire to accomplish." Logan explained in full detail, as Patton chuckled sheepishly.
"Alright, Loganberry, sorry for squirming." Patton said, as he relaxed against the couch, looking at Virgil as he glanced at a certain picture on the mantle.
"Patty cake, can you help me get the cookies out if the oven?" Grandma Montgomery asked from the kitchen.
We were all frozen in place, before Patton moved to get up. Logan stopped him by putting an arm over him, silently shaking his head.
"I'll come help." I said, as I walked into the kitchen, the smell of the cookies wafting in the air.
"They smell amazing, Miss." I said, being polite as I put an oven mitts on my hand, reaching in to grab the cookie tray full of delicious goodness.
"Please, call me Dot. Or grandma. That works too, deary." Grandma Dot said, smiling, as I set the tray down on the flower shaped hot pad that she laid down.
"Wow, they look amazing too." I said, as I marveled at how real these cookies looked. Not like the fake cookies that you buy at school or from a store.
"Thank you, Thomas dear." She said, a chuckle coming out of her small drawn mouth.
"Wait, I never introduced myself yet, Dot. How do you know my name?" I asked, confused.
"You are exactly what Patton described you to be. A true gentleman." Grandma Dot said, smiling.
"A g-gentleman?" I asked, stuttering a bit.
"Yes, of course, deary. Alright, who wants cookies?" Grandma Dot asked loudly, grabbing a plate and stocking cookies on it.
"Cookies? Meee!" Patton said, happily, as Logan bandaged his arm that had a cut on it. He had finally finished dressing his wounds.
I was about to follow in, when a sense of being stared at made me turn around, wondering if someone was there. When I saw that no one was actually there, I shrugged, following Grandma Dot into the other room.
"Alright, Patty cake, one or two?" She asked, passing the plate to Logan, who took it from her shaking hands.
"Two, I'm feeling dangerous." Patton joked, as Roman chuckled a bit nervously when Grandma Dot walked closer to him, while Virgil discreetly took a cookie like it was a crime for him to like sweets.
I noticed all of it, but said nothing, as I couldn't help but shake the feeling of being watched again. I looked around the whole room, searching for the eyes that were piercing into my soul, but came up empty. No one was staring at me.
Must be my imagination.
"Alright, so. What valiant Disney movie will we watch today, Pat? Sleeping beauty? Rapunzel? Frozen? Aladdin?" Roman asked, clearly hyped, as he glanced expectantly over at the movies, but nearly fell over dramatically when he saw VHS tapes instead of disks.
"What in Oden's eyepatch is this!?" He exclaimed under his breath.
"Winnie the Pooh! My favorite." Patton said, as he started to get up to get the cassette, but Grandma Dot beat him to it, as she grabbed the cassette herself, handing it to Roman, who had his hands open in fake shock.
"Patty cake, I've been rewinding it all day, and I got it all set up for you. Here you go. Winona is in the yard, want me to let her in, honey?" She asked, kindly.
"Yes grandma, please." Patton said, just as kindly, as Grandma Dot smiled, kissing Patton on the head.
"Patton, where are your glasses, deary?" She asked, and everyone froze again.
"Don't worry Grandma. They're safe." Patton said, technically not lying, as she smiled, before shuffling out to a sliding glass door.
Suddenly, a bouncing boarder collie bounded into the room.
"I'll be in my room taking a nap, Patty cake, ok?" She called.
"Alright Grandma, sleep well!" Patton called back, before slumping over on the couch, drained. He blinked his one eye slowly, yawning.
"You have a dog!?!" Roman excitedly asked, not petty shocked, as he happily pet said puppy, who's tail was wagging in excitement with the new people.
"That's Winona, our dog. We found her." Patton said, smiling, as another yawn overtook the rest of his sentence.
"You have a VHS?" Virgil asked, a bit suprised, before he looked at where he was, his suprise fading. He took a cassette tape into his hands, fidgeting with it.
"Yea, my Grandma doesn't CD's really like. Dosen't know how to player the work." Patton said, making less sense as he spoke, too tired to properly string a sentence together at this point.
"This is quite the predicament, since I have accommodated only for compact disks, not for a videocassette recorder on a video home system." Logan said, as he pulled out several documentaries on space and one documentaries on bees.
Everyone was quiet, as Roman put the tape in the player.
"How about this, you guys, let's watch what Patton wants to watch first, then we can watch some Disney movies on my computer? And if we don't get too bored, we'll watch a commentary of Logan's. Sound fair enough?" Roman asked, as he pulled his computer out of his bag.
"Adequate." Logan said, pleased he was included.
"Sure, whatever." Virgil said.
"Sounds good to me." I said, taking a cookie and sitting next to Patton, placing a blanket over both of us.
Patton smiled, as he nodded, yawning.
"Then it's settled. Winnie the Pooh it is!" Roman said, as he sat next to me, crossing his legs.
Logan sat on the other side if Patton, begrudgingly, as Patton leaned in him slightly in an adorable way, putting a corner of the blanket on Logan's lap. "Thank you, Logan." Patton mumbled, half asleep already.
"Your quite welcome, Patton." Logan responded in a whisper, as he somewhat tolerated the contact, actually not minding it at all.
Virgil, like the cat he is, got on the armrest of the couch, sitting next to Logan, but more off to the side still. He got comfortable there, draping an arm over the back of the couch, as Roman smiled and grabbed his hand, or at least, I felt it behind me.
Virgil flinched, but didn't say anything or move his hand away.
I just wrapped an arm around Roman, and the other hand had the plate of cookies on my lap.
I smiled contently, as we all settled in for a evening of movies and cookies, as the feeling of being watched slowly washed away as the theme song for Winnie the Pooh started playing.

Greetings.
So..... drama's kicking back up.
So will the angst.
Good luck.
By the way, Winnie the Pooh was my favorite movie as a child, I remember watching it so many times when I was a child.
This brought back so much nostalgia.
Anyway, I hoped you enjoyed it.
I know I did.
A lot better than the last chapter.
Bye!
Love, duck.
