Chapter 15: Accepting defeat

*Thomas's POV*

"Mr. Rhodes, would you care to explain your side of the story now on why you beat up my son and how the, and I quote 'parents poor choice of a name and how rediculous it it' and how you were going to 'give the News Team a new scoop with photoshopped incriminating pictures, reviling how you have slept with multiple guys' when you know the punishment of those disgusting acts can be punished considerably." Mrs. Vetal said, as Logan fixed his glasses, as both Patton and I stared at him.

"You said that, Logan?" Patton asked, and he nodded, not looking into his eyes.

I just looked at Logan, before burying my head in Patton's chest, looking away, feeling nauseous.

He said that.... that's what I am. What must he think of me?

"That might have been a bit of an exaggera-" Roman started, but Mrs. Vetal slammed her hands on the desk, causing a chain reaction of jumps from all of us. "Mr. Hendrix, did I ask for your opinion?!" She shouted, as Roman backed up, his confidence taken down a peg.

"No, mam." Roman said, quietly, which shocked me extensively.

"No, Roman. Don't apologise to her, because she should have. Punching your son was awesome, and your son deserved it." Virgil said, as I saw him cross his arms out of the corner of my eyes.

"And why's that, Mr. Snides? What did my son do to deserve this?" Mrs. Vetal said, agressively defensive.

"He attacked Patton, you witchbat!" Virgil shouted like it was obvious, as Roman made a noise of agreement.

I can hear Patton attempting to say something everytime, stroking my hair comfortingly, as I just sat there, defenseless, useless.

"Patton was attacked by your son, Mrs. Vetal, and we as his friends stood up to him in the way we saw fit, untrusting of the rediculous school punishment system that favors favorites and loyalties over the truth." Logan said, the tone of his voice dropping, probably angry at how she was treating us.

"Guys..." I heard Patton mumble, but no one listened to him.

"I have seen no evidence that it was not in self defense." Mrs. Vetal said, and I'm sure Roman's jaw dropped, as be made a noise of exasperation.

"No evidence....do you see the condition Patton is in or have you gone blind in your old age, Mrs. Vetal?!" Virgil shouted loudly.

I was getting really fed up with this, as I took a intake of breath shakily. Patton looked down at me with his one eye, he was worried, but his exaustion melted my nerves away, replacing them with anger.

"The evidence is obvious, Mrs. Vetal. I don't see where you can get more evidence from. We're clearly right here!" Roman said, just as agressively.

"Everybody stop!"

Everybody froze, like time had paused, Mrs. Vetal looked the most confused to hear anything come out of his oral cavity.

"This isn't getting us anywhere. What do you want from us, Mrs. Vetal?" I questioned, carefully removing myself from Patton's chest as I huffed, angry, hoping to get this moving so that we can go treat Patton.

"I want you to shut down Thomas and the Sander sides forever or I will call all of your parents and tell them about what shenanigans have been going on. That will take Mr. Rhodes out of our geekathon." Mrs. Vetal said.

Logan gasped, outraged, as he glared heavily at her. Logan was almost student captain on his team.

"Mr. Montgomery will be taken out of student council." Mrs. Vetal continued.

I looked up to see if Patton would react, but he didn't do anything. Patton just sat back, his one eye closed, his black eye shining in the light of the room.

"Mr. Hendrix, Mr. Snides, I will personally go and shut down both the drama club and the dark conspiracy club in the pit." Mrs. Vetal said.

Roman gaped like a fish out of water, and Virgil growled, annoyed.

They were pinned.

"So, either you going to cancel the little band you have and go back to normal, or you can continue and lose everything?" Mrs. Vetal said, as I sighed, already knowing what my stakes were. They were just too high.

Either say no and risk having expulsion and having my parents find out that I'm gay, plus let the others lose their favorite activities.
Or say yes and just lose a group that formed on accident, nothing important.

"Done." I said, causing Virgil, Roman, and Patton to look at me, shocked and confused.

"Thomas, what are you doing? You're letting her win!" Virgil said, confused, the anger in his eyes dissipated, as he slouched over, hood over his head once more.

"I'm saving you guys, you guys don't need to give up everything you enjoy." I said, simply, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

It's easier this way.

"Thomas, don't try to save us. That's my job. I thought you loved this group. I thought you loved it as much as I love drama." Roman said, shocked.

"I do. But it doesn't matter now." I said, dejectedly.

It isn't worth fighting for anymore

"Kiddo, think about what your saying here. You're giving up the thing you love for us. Are you sure this is what you want?" Patton warned and asked, his big hazel brown eye gleaming with concern.

I looked Patton in the eye, as tears formed in my own, but I nodded. "I'm sure, Patton." I said.

This is for the best.

"Logan, talk some sense into him, he's talking nonsense!" Roman said, desperately, as Logan sighed, shifting his glasses onto his nose once more.

"Sure, Mrs. Vetal. We will disband." Logan said, suprisingly.

"What?!" Roman screeched, as he dramatically flailed his arms about. "Your supposed to convince Thomas not to disband, Calculator!" Roman shouted at me.

Virgil looked at Logan with hatred and disagreement, not saying a word, as I felt bad for causing this mess in the first place.

It's all my fault.

"Logan....why?" Patton said, upset, as he looked away from Logan.

"Alright, since you agree, there will be no more Thomas and the Sander sides." Mrs. Vetal said, grinning wildly as she grabbed her stamp and stamped a piece of paper.

This is it.

"Nice doing business with you." She said, and I stood up and walked out the door, the tears in my eyes slowly falling.

Logan was following right after me, guiding me out the door.

"Logan...hey! I wasn't done talking to you, nerd!" Roman screeched once more, as I felt everyone follow me out.

"Oh, and by the way, Mr. Joan is out of a job as of yesterday." Mrs. Vetal said, before her door slammed closed by Virgil.

"I'm sorry guys....I just couldn't..." I said, as I wept, about to sink to my knees.

It's over now, isn't it.

"Kiddo!" Patton shouted in suprise, as he limped over to comfort me, as he hugged me while I wiped the tears out of my eyes. "I got you, kiddo." He whispered, gently. "It's ok." He said, as I bit back the sob that wanted to tear through my throat.

"I'm....so sorry..." I said, as I felt like I just killed a part of me, a part of my heart. Music is my life.

Patton wobbled slightly, and I stayed still, hoping to support him as much as he was supporting me. We could support each other.

"Thomas, it's ok. We understand. We know why you did what you did back there." Roman said, as I looked up, confused, as Patton held onto me.

"What...how?" I asked, sniffling, rubbing my nose and cheeks from my tears.

"Those walls are designed rather thin." Logan explained, as I looked up, shock written all over my face.

They heard what she said...
They heard what she said.

"You didn't need to hide the fact that your gay from us." Virgil said, as he smirked slightly, realizing the hypocrisy in his statement. "I didn't need to hide my name from you...but sometimes it's good to hide. We get it."

"I....I didn't? You guys really don't care?" I asked, relief flooding my eyes like the tears running down my face.

"Nope." Patton said, smiling. "I mean, I'm pansexual, so that doesn't matter to me." Patton said, leaning against the wall, still hugging me, grinning, even though he looked very fatigued.

"I, myself, am bisexual, so that doesn't matter to me either." Roman said, flaunting his hands into an odd pose, as he smirked. I let out a laugh at the pose, sniffling slightly.

"And I have analyzed and came up with a hypothesis that I am asexual." Logan said. "And while it may seem like it's in my regional area to be against this for the evolution of procreation, I understand that homosapiens mental capacity are more complex than the world understands, therefore, if humans find love in the same sex with other humans, that is perfectly natural to me." Logan said, as I felt like he was trying to help me feel better.

"I don't now what I am, but does it really matter, Thomas?" Virgil asked, hands in his black hoodie pockets.

"No.... it really doesn't, Virgil." I said, standing up straight, as I smiled, my smile returning. "Thanks you guys." I said, wiping my eyes.

"Our pleasure, Thomas the dank engine!" Roman said, grinning.

"No problem, kiddo." Patton said, smiling brightly once more.

"Whatever." Virgil said, quietly, trying to keep his emo image, as he looked away.

"Of course, Thomas. Now, I have that whole endeavor recorded so we can-" Logan started, but he was rudely interrupted by an overdramatic Roman.

"Hold on! I wasn't done with you, Microsoft turd! What was that all about, Logan?! Do you really hate the band this much?!" Roman shouted at Logan.

"On the contrary, no. I have grown accustomed to this band and rather enjoy it, per say." He objected to this yelling by placing his hand on Roman's shoulder, and he instantly stopped shouting, as Logan sighed in relief.

"Then why did you do that, Logan?" Virgil asked, as I sniffled, wiping his eyes for the last time.

"We just have to disband Thomas and the Sander sides, correct?" Logan said.

Patton nodded, not understanding, but going along with it.

Virgil sighed. "Get to the point, Logan." Virgil said, as he nodded, understanding.

"Are we not changing the title of the band anyway? So, in essence, we can continue being a band if we change our name?" Logan said, as he smirked, clearly proud of his genius.

Everyone was silent for a moment, processing this newfound loophole.

"You clever nerd." Virgil said, smirking.

"Oh my goodness, Logan that's so smart!" Patton said, smiling, as he yawned.

"Nice thinking, Logan." I said, as he nodded, his eyes shining just a bit more at the compliment.

"Oh....my apologies, Logan." Roman said, as he probably felt guilty for yelling.

"It is acceptable, Roman. I would be suspicious if you did not, in fact, yell at me for the incredulous stunt I inacted." Logan said, confidently.

"Thank you. Now that this is settled, didn't we get invited to a Disney movie over at Patton's place?" I asked, and Patton nodded, smiling.

"Yeppers!" He shouted, excited, before he started falling over, unable to keep his balance. I tried to catch him, but he slipped off of me.

He landed with a soft thud.

"Pat." Virgil said, worried, as Patton sat up, laughing.

"Let's get him to his house, stat." Roman said, as he looked at me.

"Agreed." Logan said, as Roman and Logan grabbed Patton and we made our way to the parking lot so that I could drive.

I opened the car and started it, and The Pretenders greeted me with the song "I'll stand by you."

How accurate.

I smiled, as a loopy Patton sat in the back, smashed in by Virgil and Logan, because Roman declared the front seat.

Today was eventful, it always is with these guys as my friends, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
