Chapter 11: Mystery solvers

Warning: Panic attacks

*Logan's POV*

I sighed, as I looked around in the boys bathroom near Patton's last classroom.

Roman was calling Patton's cell for the umpteenth time, as Anx was starting to get worried from his barrage of pestering quarries.

"Logan, are you sure he's ok? Do you think we can find him? What if he's injured? Logan, do you know how to treat wounds?" Anx quarried these types of questions repeatedly.

I sighed rather pestered, before I spotted something peculiar.
A mini toy walrus, inaccurately represented in the fact that it was a childlike design.

"Roman, did Patton possess a stuffed walrus keychain?" I asked, as I held it up to the light.

"Why yes, yes he did. Why do you-" Roman asked, stopping short as he gazed apon the walrus in my hands.

"Patton's lucky walrus!" Roman spoke, as he gasped overdramatically.

"It's here and not with Patton?" Anx asked, his voice gaining more worry with every inquisitive he asked me.

"Yes, it would appear so, Anx." I said, my tone more harsh and annoyed but I felt no annoyance towards him.

"Oh.." Anx said, retreating back into his hood.

"I apologise, Anx. I am worried as well for our friendly Patton." I said, and Anx nodded, understanding.

"Ok, Sherlock, where is Patton?" Roman said, and I smiled internally at the nickname. Me and my grandfather have read all of the Sherlock Holmes books.

"Have you guys found Patton?" Thomas suddenly rushed in, near hyperventilating, as he looked out of breath.

"I was asking all of his teachers if they've seen him, but they haven't either." Thomas said, as he sat down in the floor, panting.

"Locating Patton is much more troublesome than announcing that the collective group is going to find him." I said, and Roman, Anx, and Thomas all looked lost with my words.

I groaned internally, before sighing externally.

"In simpler words, It's easier said than done." I said, and everyone started making noises of understanding.

"Well, we have to find Patton. Maybe he's down at the pit already?" Thomas asked, as he stood up, brushing the nonexistent dirt off of his pants. "Besides, Mr. J already booked us a gig!" He cheered, and both Anx's and my face paled.

"Really, that's wonderful news!" Roman said, the only one happy about said news.

"I know, right! It's at-" Thomas started.

"May I mention that I can't sing? And we have yet to pick a band name that we all approve of?" I said, interrupting Thomas and Roman's excitement.

Roman nodded, remembering. "That's right, Thomas. We haven't decided on a name yet." Roman said, agreeing.

Thomas looked down at the floor, sheepishly. "Well, Mr. J put in our band name as Thomas and the Sander Sides, so...." He said.

"He did what?!?" Roman asked, incredulously.

"I'm sorry guys." Thomas said, sorrowfully.

"It is quite alright, Thomas. You had no say in the matter." I said, reassuring him, as he nodded.

"I had no idea till today in his music class." Thomas said, confirming my assumptions.

I relaxed internally, as my lack of singing comment went unnoticed until...

"Wait, you can't sing?" Roman asked, as I nodded affirmatively.

"Can't or won't?" Anx asked, suddenly voicing his opinions, his eyes fixated on something on the ground.

"Well, I assume I misused the word if you cannot comprehend what I meant, Anx. Won't. I won't sing." I said, stubbornly.

"Why's that, Logan?" Thomas asked, curious.

"Won't." I repeated, my stubbornness levels rising exponentially at him questioning me.

"Fine, I'll drop it." Thomas said, not pushing, which I was grateful for.

I sighed, getting angry was not going to help find our acquaintance, as I trailed my eyes to Anx's.

"Anx, what do you keep looking at?" I asked, as I turned my head to gaze upon what he was so intently staring at, when I froze.

Blood.

Assumptively

Patton's blood

Roman sharply gasped, then shrieked like a small female child when he saw it, as he pointed at it. "Is that Patton's?!" He shouted.

"Presumably." I said, and Roman shrieked again.

"Oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no no no no no no no no." Roman said, his composure slipping to that of sporadic and panicked.

Anx clutched at his hoodie where his heart would be, his breathing hitched and sputtered, as he appeared to be having a bit of trouble breathing. Was it an asthma attack?

No. I read about this. It's a panic attack. Anx was having a panic attack.

"Anx! Panic attack!" I accidentally shouted when I came to said conclusion that he was, indeed, having a panic attack.

Anx attempted to glare at me for my exclamation, as he started to hyperventilate, his hands clutching at his chest as he sunk to the floor, curling up.

I sunk down with him, grabbing his shoulders, as I breathed with him, trying to calm him down.

He pushed me off of him, as he attempted to breath, his eyes watering quite a bit. His breath caught in his esophagus, as he coughed, struggling to intake oxygen still.

"Anx. Inhale deeply for 4 counts." I told him, not touching him.

Anx nodded weakly, as he took in a shaky breath for four counts.

"Alright, now hold it for 5 counts." I said, forcing my voice to be less harsh.

Anx nodded, as he struggled to hold it, but he managed to do so.

"Now, exhale for 8 counts." I told him.

Anx let go, but he sputtered again, as he coughed, tears smearing his shadowing under his eyes.

"It's fine. Just try again. Inhale for 4." I said, calmly.

Anx nodded weakly once more, as be breathed in for 4 counts, like I asked.

"Withhold your breath for 5." I said, my voice more soothing now, as I gently placed my hand on his shoulder for contact and possible grounding.

Anx nodded, as he managed to do so with much less struggle.

"Now, exhale for 8 counts." I told him, gently.

He did as I told him too, calming down considerably. After a few more tries, he was much calmer, and was able to speak now.

"Thanks....Logan.." Anx said, out of breath, but still sounding genuinely.

"Of course." I said, standing up swiftly.

I helped Anx to his feet, as he stood, shakily.

To my suprise, Roman was vacated from the area, as I looked at a semi stressed, semi collected Thomas.

"I'll look for Patton, take Virgil to the band closet or take him home, whatever he wants. I'll give you a call if I find anything." He said. Before I could protest to his command, he walked off, taking the keychain with him.

I sighed, as I looked down at the exausted Anx.

"Which do you prefer, Anx?" I questioned.

"The band closet." He said, simply, as I nodded diligently.

"Can you walk?" I questioned once more, and he scoffed.

"Yea. What do you think I am?" Anx asked, most likely joking.

"I believe you are a man who just suffered a panic attack, so I ask to make sure you are in conditions to walk because you have been entrusted into my care for the time being." I responded, as Anx sighed, mumbling.

"....not really..." He said, under his breath.

"What was that?" I inquired, as I leaned in to hear better.

"No! Ok....my legs are still shaking." Anx said, a red flush sweeping over his cheek bones, but partially coated by his covering of makeup.

"Would you like me to carry you fireman style, bridal style, or on my back?" I asked, not embarrassed in the slightest, more concerned for my acquaintance.

"On your back?" Anx said, unsure, as he mumbled, playing with his sleves.

"Adequate." I said, as I bend down to hoist him up on top of my spinal column, unaware of how light he actually was until he was up on my back.

"How much do you weigh?" I asked, curious.

"Why do you ask, braniac?" He replied, hostile, possibly offended.

"I only ask because you are very light weight for your height. Are you eating enough?" I asked, very concerned with his health. If I was to go and oppose all of my parents desires and contribute to a band, then my 'bandmates' better all be healthy to better avoid costly journeys to the hospital.

"Oh. I'm 88 pounds." He said, quietly, with a twinge of guilt in his voice.

"That is very startling for someone your height. Your BMI is clearly in the lower percentage." I rattled off, as I started descending the stairs to the Pit to my destination of the band closet.

I walked down the corridor, unable to see Anx or his blushing face, but I assumed he would be embarrassed.

As we walking into the room, Anx started to laugh at the flamboyant boys position.

He was flailed out on the beanbags, his hair flipping back over and getting messy, and his crown was apon his chest. He looked to be either asleep or deep in thought.

"I'll place you in the third beanbag, ok?" I told Anx, as he nodded, still laughing. He took out his phone and when he was seated, get proceeded to take several pictures if the sleeping prince, muttering something about blackmail.

Prince sighed, as he opened his eyes, apparently not asleep. He pulled out an earbud with a crown on it.

"I've got my ticket for the long way round, two bottles of whiskey for the way. And I sure would like some sweet company and I'm leaving tomorrow, what'da say? When I'm gone, when I'm gone. Your gonna miss me when I'm gone." Roman's music played, and I recognized it at Cups from a trashy movie I attempted to forget.

"You listen to Cups?" Anx asked, his face showing some level of disbelief disbelief.

"I do it when I'm stressed!" Roman shouted, causing Anx and I both to flinch, but then Anx chucked slightly.

"Whoa man, chill. No need to get your crown in a twist" Anx said, jokingly.

"Alright fine, incredible sulk!" Roman said, starting up the nickname war once more.

I sighed, watching them banter, as I sat in a chair before noticing.

Where was Mr. J?

*Thomas's POV*

"Excuse me, miss. Have you seen Patton?" I asked the teacher, worry written all over my face.

"No, doll. I'll keep an eye out though. Happy hunting!" The nice math teacher said, as I nodded, continuing my search, as I ran through the halls.

Roman was counting on me.
Anx was counting on me.
Logan was counting on me, possibly.
And Patton....Was definitely counting on me finding him.

I ran past the gymnasium, as I paused, hearing the sounds of squeaky shoes and shouting.

'It's probably just basketball practice.' I thought to myself.

I was about to walk away when I heard.

"Don't worry dude, we'll get you down!"

At that, I opened the door, before gasping and running in.

Patton was stuck in the basketball hoop, unable to move, as he waved to me, with his arm stuck pinned to his side.

He was beat up with visible bruises all over, a cut on his cheek, and a black eye shining on his now smiling face.

"Thomas! Looks like I got dunked!" He chuckled at his own joke, wincing when the tallest basketball guy grabbed the net, pulling on it, before falling back down to the ground.

"How'd he get up there?!" I shouted, confused and angry.

"We don't know. We were comin' for practice and he was stuck up there. He made a lame pun, and we've been tryin' to get him out for 15 minutes!" The leader of the basketball team said, as the other boys kept trying to get him out.

"Hey Thomas, did I...score a home run?" Patton asked, and I turned around, sighing.

"Patton, that's baseball..." I said, simply, as I pulled out my phone, taking a picture.

"I'll have my group come help too. Thank you." I said, as I sent it to the group.

"Man, no problem. Patton is always really helpful towards us, finding our lost basketballs and stuff." He said, and I smiled. That definitely sounds like him.

"If you find out who did this, send them our way. We'll school them." The leader said, patting my shoulders, before running over to the hoop.

"Hey. Hey Thomas! Points to you for finding me!" He joked, as I looked up, seeing a tear form in his good eye.

"Aww, Patton." I said, sadly. "It'll be ok, Logan, Anx, and Roman are on their way, just hang on!" I called up to him, and Patton nodded, smiling, laughing at the accidental joke I made.

"Okie dokie, kiddo." Patton said, smiling still, though that one tear I saw fell down his bruised cheek.

Who had hurt Patton so badly?
And why?
